Do Your Moggies Use Cat Beds?

I'm just about to adopt two elderly cats.
I've had cats before - in fact, they died very recently.

The cats who died always slept on the sofa and on my bed - we never had actual cat beds for them.
I was wondering if the new cats would want little beds - what do people think?
Does your moggie have her/his own bed, or are they a waste of money?

I remember, years ago, when my daughter got a kitten, she bought a bed for him - and, being a cat, he never slept in it.

One of mine has four, and uses them all. The other doesn't use them and prefers my bed instead.

@LochinverSwimmingPool

One was asleep in the litter tray last week

That made me laugh like mad.

When one of mine was at the vet for a week. They had to give her an extra tray as she insisted In sleeping in her litter tray.
learieonthewildmoor · 20/08/2021 21:30

Mine used the bed as kittens.

PiggyPlumPie · 20/08/2021 21:33

Our kitty has three beds that he uses regularly.

He also likes the sofa, the blanket pile, DS's computer chair, any human bed and his current favourite place is the floor outside the bathroom door.

Cats are contrary creatures!

AnnaMagnani · 20/08/2021 21:43

Yes, much to my surprise.

Silkycat likes her little house. Her sister liked her little house so much she would carry it around, including into the garden so she could sit inside it wherever she wanted.

Desertcat does sleep in his bed but also likes several chairs and the top of the freezer if he can get away with it.

We leave a blanket on top of the ironing board which is first come, first served. Same goes for our bed - Silkycat prefers it inside the bed under the duvet.

Oak framed superking cat bed with high thread count cotton sheets is acceptable. Polycotton bedding (daddy didn’t read the label) made kitty vomit on the sheet at 4am. Sofas and dining chairs are acceptable. Parker knoll chairs are acceptable. Radiator cat bed is acceptable if the radiator is on and the cover is newly washed. Clean high thread count white laundry awaiting ironing is acceptable. Kitties do not sleep on non natural fabrics, mdf, veneer or actual cat beds.

LockdownCheeseToastie · 20/08/2021 22:03

Edit- pure welsh wool blankets also acceptable.

Mine sleep on top of the jacuzzi cover ! - nice and warm. The best bit was when one cat jumped up to go on it while we were in there - realised mid air there was no cover and she was about to get a bath and did a mid air twist with a look of panic on her face…

drpaddington · 20/08/2021 22:06

Occasionally. They did all the time as kittens but grew out of it. They mostly sleep on sofas or our beds now, then at night they sleep on a fluffy blanket at the top of the stairs.

NotMyCat · 20/08/2021 22:06

Yep. Mine has one of those round fluffy marshmallow beds, and a teepee. Loves both

Mine sleep in different places all over the house. They do like those beds that hook on radiators and we have a couple of cat trees which have an elevated bed that they like. My other cat sleeps on a kitchen chair.

Shallysally · 21/08/2021 16:32

Mine will only sleep in her bed, which is fluffy, even when it’s really hot! She will occasionally come upstairs and settle on the landing, but not often.

dementedpixie · 21/08/2021 16:35

The last few night one of mine has chosen to sleep on the 2nd stair which makes him a tripping hazard!

They like the floor, a window sill and cardboard boxes

Mines asleep on top of the freezer at the moment. Both she and the freezer are black so she's well hidden. At night she sleeps with me.

RandomMess · 21/08/2021 16:49

They use the bed on the cat barrel (like a super wide scratching post - they love them), sofas, dining chairs, beds and the dog beds 🤷🏽‍♀️

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 22/08/2021 15:53

My cat has ignored every bed I've ever bought her. Her preferred sleeping places are any of our beds, the sofa, and the top of my DD's wardrobe (which has an offcut of carpet on it, especially for her). She's recently taken to sleeping on the pedestal mat in front of the loo during the night, and gets grumpy if anyone dares need to use it!

jaundicedoutlook · 23/08/2021 08:00

Got mine from Etsy (the bed, not the cat)!

Bernard seems to like it, though there are plenty of non-approved places where he likes to sleep as well (including he sofa arm, induction hob, and bookcase shelf).

Well, so far, both cats have spent their entire time behind the sofa.
They're eight and they need to get used to me and DH and to the house.

Actually - while I was writing this, one of them slunk out and decided to get comfortable under the curtains.

He has now fallen asleep, upside down, in a corner.

Put a cardboard box somewhere random, with an old towel thrown in it - they'll love it!
My last cat slept in his very expensive and recently bought bed for three days then totally ignored it.
He much preferred the box my printer came in, with an old bath mat double-folded inside on the base.
They're contrary buggers. Grin

FlatStanletta · 29/08/2021 00:09

DCat slept in his lovely soft cat igloo thing for the first few weeks and then never again (although now he is fully grown it would probably be a squeeze). He used his expensive cat tree with multiple sleeping spots for a couple of weeks - but he only slept in the hammock.

Generally he prefers the sofa, any human bed pillows, my clean laundry pile and, most inexplicably of all, the utility room sink!
