Feel empty, cat isn't coming back

My cat disappeared two and a half weeks ago. We found out he'd been transported 20 miles away in a delivery van that he'd climbed in, and since the day we found out where he'd been camping out, he has totally dropped off the face of the earth. People were seeing him up til the day we found out the village he was in, and now nothing. No one has seen him since that day. He must be either dead or travelled somewhere else.

We've put posters all around the area, but it's big wide countryside and he could be anywhere and if he's gone further, people won't know he's missing.

I know I'm not going to get him back. The chances feel too slim. It's too far for him to get back on his own.

I'm totally heartbroken. I've got a 4 month old baby and I can barely sleep, I feel awful, l know I'm grieving essentially, but I still have this lingering hope which almost feels worse as there's no closure. He's only a year old and was my baby. He was there for me for 6 weeks in the first lockdown that I spent completely on my own and we were so close. How can I feel better and get on with life?

@allyf92

EXCITING UPDATE!!!

He's back!!!

Had a message this morning from a lady in a village 3 miles away from the old house I thought he was living in the grounds of, thought it would be a false sighting but when she sent a photo it was definitely him!

Drove there straight away to collect him and he immediately bounded over to me from underneath the furniture he was hiding under, purring and climbing on me, but about half the size he was before. He's definitely not been eating well.

On the journey home the stress obviously got to him as he did a very big and smelly poo (not the most fun to clean up!)

I've given him lots of love, food and water, and done flea and worm treatment and got his favourite snuggly blanket he's had since he was a kitten to sleep on.

Feels so surreal and wonderful to have him back after 4 weeks away. Social media is wonderful in finding pets!! He's exhausted now so hopefully he's in for a good nights sleep.

Thank you all for your positive stories and support. Hopefully this silly cat has learned his lesson about climbing in delivery vans!

After the cat news I had today, I am so happy to see your update

Unless we get more pictures we won't really believe he is back ... :)

I’d missed this thread, but just seen it. Am so pleased you’ve got him home!

Handsome boy, fabulous markings. Hope he’s continuing to do ok after visit to the vets.

SM can be a pain in the proverbial a lot of the time, but it comes into its own in these situations.

SequinsandStiIettos · 05/08/2021 16:20

I'm not crying, you're crying.
Brilliant outcome OP, delighted for you.
Also coping with all that on top of having a 4 month old - I am in awe.

Allyf92 Realised I had not checked this thread for a few days and just found out he is back.

What brilliant news. He is incredibly handsome too! Hope the visit to the vets went ok and that you are all enjoying being reunited.

TwoFriedEggs · 05/08/2021 18:34

What joy! I've just read the thread and was afraid to read, delighted you got him back.

allyf92 · 11/08/2021 20:57

Apologies I've been getting back to usual crazy life! The little tyke has been doing lots of sleeping and cuddling, and a lot less manic running around outside! Think he's had his fill of the big bad world 😂 He's got a new collar now and as you can see, he does NOT approve
