Feel empty, cat isn't coming back

My cat disappeared two and a half weeks ago. We found out he'd been transported 20 miles away in a delivery van that he'd climbed in, and since the day we found out where he'd been camping out, he has totally dropped off the face of the earth. People were seeing him up til the day we found out the village he was in, and now nothing. No one has seen him since that day. He must be either dead or travelled somewhere else.

We've put posters all around the area, but it's big wide countryside and he could be anywhere and if he's gone further, people won't know he's missing.

I know I'm not going to get him back. The chances feel too slim. It's too far for him to get back on his own.

I'm totally heartbroken. I've got a 4 month old baby and I can barely sleep, I feel awful, l know I'm grieving essentially, but I still have this lingering hope which almost feels worse as there's no closure. He's only a year old and was my baby. He was there for me for 6 weeks in the first lockdown that I spent completely on my own and we were so close. How can I feel better and get on with life?

Fabulous news! I’m so happy for you and your lovely cat! You must be so relieved and happy, wonderful news!

felinelucky · 02/08/2021 09:07

Fabulous news, OP!! I'm so happy and relieved for you. I briefly lost one of my beasties last year and I have this recurring sense of gratitude when I see him safe in the nest.

violetbunny · 02/08/2021 09:11

Oh thank goodness! That's one lucky cat. I kept checking back for updates, I'm so pleased you found you cat Smile

Also if he's a bit on the thin side, kitten food might help him with regaining the weight. We had the same thing when mine went missing for 2 weeks, he was skin and bone when we found him. Vet suggested kitten food to help build him back up as it's more calorific.

allyf92 · 02/08/2021 10:42

Kitten food is a great idea, and I'll be stocking up on the dreamies that's for sure!

Feeling so complete and happy this morning after 4 weeks of feeling totally heartbroken.

He's currently conked out in advance of his vet checkup later!

Oh bless him. He looks exhausted poor thing but he must be so relieved to be home. He must have missed you terribly. I hope he gets on ok at the vets.

Do you mind me asking, how did you find out he had got in the van?

ChickNorris · 02/08/2021 10:52

What fantastic news, OP! I'm so happy for all of you. Your updates sounded promising and I had every hope that you'll find him.

PS: Besides the kitten food suggestion I'd also like to mention that my vet has recently given me a tin of 'Hill's A/D restorative care' cat food to beef mine up after a bad spell. It's this highly calorific pâté that's meant to help them regain weight. (I then got my extra tins off the internet).

Take care.

My neighbour had a niggling feeling that he'd got in a van that was delivering a bed to her house, as she was the last one to see him and he'd been sniffing around it and going in and out of her garage. She rang the delivery driver, who rang the next person he'd delivered to, who confirmed she'd seen a Bengal cat next to the van while they were unloading it!

That reminds that I need to let the delivery driver know as I promised I would!

The neighbour will also be getting flowers as we'd still be totally clueless as to where in the world he was if it wasn't for her making that phone call.

Wonderful wonderful news. So pleased for you all OP. Enjoy spoiling him ❤️

Icequeen01 · 02/08/2021 11:22

@allyf92 You have such a brilliant neighbour there! Thank God she saw him. You should be a pet detective!

One of my cats years ago got in an Argos lorry. My mum was taking delivery of something for us and knew that one of our cats was always snooping around open garages and cars so asked him to double check his van before he left. The driver did and out shot our cat! I was so grateful to my mum for checking.

Enjoy having your boy home and I hope you get some rest too. You must be mentally exhausted you poor thing.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/08/2021 11:28

He’s lost a lot of muscle hasn’t he?. I wouldn’t rule it happening again out either. You know what bengals are like.

He’s a very lucky boy to be so loved but the bond with them is so strong you know they’d never just leave you willingly.

OriginalTaste · 02/08/2021 11:43

Oh OP I am so, so pleased for you! What a wonderful happy ending!

Jocasta2018 · 02/08/2021 11:48

Thank goodness he's back! A few days of good sleep and regular meals and he'll be back to normal, so glad you've found him.

Threetoedsloth · 02/08/2021 14:06

Such absolutely brilliant news. What a handsome chap he is.

FatCatThinCat · 02/08/2021 14:48

Fantastic news. My cat was also very underweight when we got her back. They're not as self sufficient as they like to think they are.

Nosilayak · 02/08/2021 18:12
