Kittens!

This is really just a follow up from my previous thread. I have kittens!

They’re beautiful, wonderful and amazing. They have settled in beautifully and established an appropriate pecking order with the dogs.

I couldn’t be more delighted.

The black and white one looks like trouble Grin. What did you call them?

Mumdiva99 · 08/07/2021 11:17

How gorgeous. Now the trouble starts.... Are you a first time cat mum or experienced? (I see you already have a dog).

Motorina · 08/07/2021 11:20

The black one is Whitby, and black and white is Watchet. They’re sisters and are into everything.

I’ve had adult cats before but not kittens.

Gorgeous girls!

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2021 13:05

I’m glad you got them. Poor dogs though 😺

Mumdiva99 · 08/07/2021 13:08

Kittens are lots of fun.

The dog looks quite happy to me.....until one tries to climb or ride him.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 08/07/2021 13:14

Oh they look like trouble Grin

GuppytheCat · 08/07/2021 13:46

Watchet appears to have thumbs.

Be afraid.

Motorina · 08/07/2021 16:52

Thank you so much! To answer everyone...

Yes, they are adorable. And trouble.

Yes, Watchet almost certainly can open jars with those paws. She can also walk through walls.

Yes, the dogs are coping. They have settled into suitably submissive and all is amicable. My lead bitch spent the first couple of days looking at them sideways ("You are sitting on my chair") but they ignored her, and she has totally given up.

They are just a delight.

Guys, I know I can spay from 4 months, but is that 4 calendar months or 16 weeks please? And how long after that til I can safely let them out? They are desperate to go out, eat mice, and sleep with unsuitable men.

They are gorgeous!

I think spaying may depend on weight as much as age.

My sister cats...one a tiny bean and one a chonky floof were spayed at nearly 6 months as it took that long for tiny to reach an appropriate size.

The eldest (the dark one) is basically resigned to being slept on. Middle one thinks they’re puppies and keeps trying to groom faces and bums. And the puppy just wants to play.

The kittens are taking it all in their stride.

@MintyCedric they really are. And thank you. Fingers crossed they grow fast then.

Oh, they are cute.

I agree that it's probably weight as much as age for neutering.

AlfonsoTheMango · 09/07/2021 10:03

I now have such kitten fever that I have just applied to a rehoming centre to take on two kittens.

Pray for me.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/07/2021 10:09

My DD has got two kittens and we are on our way to meet them. I can't wait!

ApolloandDaphne · 09/07/2021 10:10

Yours are lovely too OP. How rude of me not to admire them!

AlfonsoTheMango · 09/07/2021 11:59

Oooooooh kittens!

Motorina · 09/07/2021 12:13

@AlfonsoTheMango, @ApolloandDaphne good luck! Those are particularly adorable kittens.

Our rescue neutered them at 12 weeks if they’re big enough, to avoid the ‘sleeping with unsuitable boys’ issue. I think you’ll be fine with 16 weeks.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 09/07/2021 17:36

2kg we were told for neutering.. For safety with anaesthetic..
Ours was under for ages!

Ah they are lovely! Congratulations! How old are they? We just got two kittens last week too, they’re 10 weeks. Loving getting to know them! Grin

Motorina · 10/07/2021 07:46

They're 12 weeks. So I think they're more interested in going out and climbing trees and having midnight feasts than picking up unsuitable boys, but I'm not quite sure.

I have a giant memory form dog bed which they've claimed. It's huge - well over a metre long - but it's apparently totally impossible for the dogs to go anywhere near it when there's a kitten on it.

Mumdiva99 · 10/07/2021 11:10

Our vet says at 6 months- but some do it at 4 months so best speak to your vet.

Don't let them out till they are spayed as they can come into season without you knowing it. Ours were desperate to get out from 4 months.....we may have let them in the garden a couple of times.....but once you start letting them out it's hard to stop because they know how much fun there is to be had. Part of waiting to let them out is just letting them mature a little so they can handle tricky situations.
