Is this a tabby cat thing? I can look out of the window and see Kloppy playing 200m away in the field, turn my back for ten seconds and he materialises behind me in the kitchen, all smug and purry Shock

This boy teleports, I swear. We come downstairs and he's still on the bed. Turn round and he's in the kitchen.

It’s just a cat thing. They have a stealth mode.

One minute their asleep on your bed, the next their walking in from the garden.

purrswhileheeats · 28/05/2021 16:58

Stealth mode Grin Kloppy is usually so noisy and clatters everywhere, I can't work out how he does it!

Ours can't because they have two cow bells on their collars at the moment so sound more like Santa's sleigh is approaching. It hasn't stopped them catching stuff either.

steppemum · 28/05/2021 17:19

love the idea of stealth mode.

When I am in the kitchen there is regularly a massive thud on the ceiling, enough to shake the light fitting. It is steppecat jumping off the window sill in our bedroom.
It is followed by the sound of a herd of elephants running down the stairs, before one nonchalant cat wanders in to the kitchen.

I think his stealth mode must be faulty Grin

No - I think it's just a cat thing Grin.

iklboo · 28/05/2021 17:27

@steppemum - same with this one.

@iklboo
Your cat may not have stealth mode - but he does have a killer stare Grin

iklboo · 28/05/2021 17:38

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats - they both do 😄

I'm assuming they have Mafia connections?

StellaAndCrow · 28/05/2021 18:01

Oh my goodness I'm so glad I've just seen this! I was watching this one out in the garden today, and suddenly he appeared next to me on the sofa - really made me jump!

I came on here hoping it was instructions on how to teleport cats. I have to move mine 2400km next month and I have to do it by car and it's going to be awful for them I fear.

Ours is better in the car when the carrier is covered by a towel

I've done that several times. It is stressful, but you can do it! Good luck.

Ours do this .
And they GasLight us by making us think He is She and She is He .

They are identical but for a few subtle differences .
One thing we've noticed is the way they leave through the cat-flap . She slides through , he bunnyhops

She walks across the hard floor clicking (claws) he pads silently .

Terry Pratchett describes it as moving through time and space
It is a Cat Thing Grin

T.S. Eliot nailed it:

His manner is vague and aloof
You would think there was nobody shyer
But his voice has been heard on the roof
When he was curled up by the fire
And he's sometimes been heard by the fire
When he was about on the roof
(At least we all heard that somebody purred)
Which is uncontestable proof
Of his singular magical powers
And I've known the family to call
Him in from the garden for hours
When he was asleep in the hall

My most important advice is to under no circumstances open the carrier (to check on cat/put in food/water/whatever) on the journey - especially at service stations. You wouldn't believe how many people manage to lose their cats at motorway services.91
thecatneuterer · 31/05/2021 09:40

And the number of people isn't '91'. I have no idea how that got there.

The cat teleported himself onto your keyboard.

I used to foster for cat's protection, the lady who drove the van down to the rehoming centre said the first few minis were bad and then they all went to sleep.

OP

My friend had one that could teleport in to the laundry basket, either that or he climbed in and replaced the lid.

Oh I love that, thank you! Grin

Also an occasional invisibility cloak. I've searched upstairs, drawn a blank, got the dreamies out and called in the garden, only for the cat to come sauntering downstairs..

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 31/05/2021 17:21

Ours do a teleport swap. Slim Chrissie will ask for some crunchies, so I'll turn to grab some and put them down. By the time I have, Fat Boab is there instead.
