I need a hand hold - Harry

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/05/2021 12:19

Harry has been off his food for a few days and, as we are supposed to be going on holiday on Friday, we took him to the vet today. She said he seemed fine in himself and he was happy to stroll around the treatment room and jump up and down from the table but he was grumpy and sensitive when she examined the left side of his abdomen.

Because he’s got early kidney disease she’s done blood tests (apparently the markers were only very slightly raised last year) and she’s thinking of gastritis or kidney stones. I’m now sitting here panicking waiting for the results. Depending on what they show he might have to have an abdominal ultrasound tomorrow.

He’s 16 years old so I know he’s getting on a bit but I love the grumpy little bugger and I can’t bear the thought something might be wrong 😿

Hand hold and paws crossed from here.Flowers

I hope whatever he has is treatable. You'll always do your best for him anyway.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 12/05/2021 12:23

Awwww poor baby. Try not to worry too much my 20 year old cat Buns who died last month aged 19 and 11 months had various serious illnesses from the age of 14 onwards and always pulled through, I was so expecting her to pull through this time as well I was dumbstruck when the vet said it was time then burst into tears.
It might just be something like constipation, you just cannot tell until the results come through. I hope it's nothing serious Flowers

Nooo, not Harry!!! Poor kitty, and poor you Pink.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/05/2021 18:03

Thank you everyone. The vet has phoned and his kidney readings are slightly raised since last May but she's not too worried about that. He's going back tomorrow for an abdominal scan to rule out anything else so I'm still a panicking mess!

We're supposed to be going on holiday on Friday afternoon but we're going to see how he is after the scan. The vet said the scan could wait until we get back but DH booked the appointment for tomorrow as it's not fair to leave him.

Hope all goes well today.

He seems fine today and has been worrying me for food (at 4am!) which I'm taking as a good sign. He also ate all his dinner last night. I'm now wondering if we're doing the right thing putting him through sedation and a scan. We need to know if there's anything else going on though.

He's an absolute Bugger!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2021 10:09

Harry! Maybe he does not want you to go away.

Possibly ask the v.e.t. if he still has a tender bit and if not then reconsider?

OTOH it might be good to know ...

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/05/2021 10:55

We've decided to go ahead we've asked them to give his teeth a thorough check while he's under. He's been delivered to the vets and the nurse has commented on how handsome he is!

He did hiss at me when I stroked his left flank yesterday but he was fine this morning. He's actually quite funny when he hisses - if he doesn't like something he turns and glares and hisses a few seconds later, almost as though he's remembered there's something else he's supposed to do!

Good luck Harry and Pink! Here's hoping that Harry just had a wobbly tummy and all is now well. I also hope that his toothy pegs are all ship-shape.

nettie434 · 13/05/2021 15:12

Good luck for your scan, Harry. Hope all is well and that you can go on holiday PinkSparklyPussyCat.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/05/2021 19:17

Harry's home! He has a slight urine infection and a very small kidney stone that will need monitoring with blood tests every 6 months. If it gets worse he may need a kidney removed or a bypass but I don't even want to think about that. His kidney disease is grade 2 (the vet said they are in good condition all things considered) and his heart murmur has disappeared. The vet also said he's a nice chunky boy!

@Toddlerteaplease, Harry wants to know if Snorg will still love him now his belly has been shaved and he's pink and grey!

Thank you all for the hand holds and kind words

@PinkSparklyPussyCat of course Snorg will still love him. I shaved her belly a month or so ago as it was knotted.
