Embarrassing neutered cat question.

This is a bit embarrassing. My rescued neutered cat has started humping me when I’m asleep. Blush

It’s waking me up, feels a bit awkward. Why has he started doing this. He has been with us for two years. He was about 10 months old when we had him and had been neutered by the CPL before we got him.

My DC tell me he “does a little wee” sometimes when he’s kneading the bed. They are too young to understand what he’s doing. But what is coming out of him if he’s been neutered??

He’s a lovely cat, but not affectionate. But since he’s learnt this new pastime he’s at it all the time. I’ve had male cats before, but never had this particular issue before.

Is there anything I can do to stop this.

Take him to the vets. Maybe they ballsed up and left one behind?

TaraR2020 · 16/04/2021 21:15

Um, I have no idea. I've had 10 cats through my life, mostly neutered males and never encountered this before. I hope someone will be along shortly who can shed some light (I'll be following with interest). I'd be inclined to take him to the vets though, if only to ensure he's been fully neutered and perhaps to check for hormone imbalances.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/04/2021 21:17

It’s not that unusual. It’s undesirable behaviour though.

ivfbeenbusy · 16/04/2021 21:18

Random question.....could you be pregnant?

I only ask because this happened to me with one of my cats - just started happening one day out of the blue he turned into a sex pest. I couldn't sit down without him trying to hump me and he'd get really arsey if I said no and he'd do this weird growl/whine noise 😾

I took him to the vets in case his neutering had reversed itself (I know I know don't laugh!) and she suggested I do a pregnancy test.....and yup I was pregnant! I was so embarrassed! Totally unexpected as we were actually due to start IVF that month after a long period of infertility

I gave birth to twins in January and the horny little bastard had a whale of time basking in my hormones for 9 months last year

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 21:19

When I first saw him at the CPL he’d been recently neutered. I asked if his bits were still swollen. I’m going to have to check again. I think I need to call the vet. Oh dear, this will be an embarrassing conversation.

I’m so fed up with the “love” in the night. It’s starting to hurt my shoulder.

If a neutered cat is humping it could be because of stress or a UTI. He needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/04/2021 21:20

If he was recently neutered, it could be due to residual hormones.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 21:21

No, not pregnant. He does it to DH and the DC as well given the chance. But it’s mostly me.

@DobbyTheHouseElk

He's not a tabby by any chance????

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 21:23

Not recently neutered. Dec 2018.

He might be stressed. He calls in to my neighbours for extra food and they love him, but they are elderly and they have told me they’ve been kicking him out of the way incase they fall over him when they are walking in the house. He has become very nervous. He was a nervy cat to start with.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 21:24

No he’s not a tabby.

ivfbeenbusy · 16/04/2021 21:25

It's also a territorial behaviour - when I'm not pregnant he does it (although to a much lesser extent) to sometimes one of my other male cats and then also to DH. I read that's it a dominance thing and he's doing it to show who is boss. Oddly he won't do it to me (when not pregnant) and will stop if I enter the room - probably because he knows who is top cat in my house - ME!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 21:29

That makes sense ivfbeenbusy NDN cats are stealing his garden and he’s busy chasing them away. Although he still thinks it’s fine to go in their house and garden.

My cat started doing this when I was pregnant too! God forbid I let my arm out from under the covers at night or he'd be at it 🙄. Pervert

EscapeDragon · 16/04/2021 22:18

I had a cat that did this. He would go into a trance and turn his attention to cushions.

Yay4spring · 16/04/2021 22:24

You really do need to get him checked over by a vet. Behavioural changes, unusual behaviour is often the only visible sign of medical issues such as UTI.

TaraR2020 · 16/04/2021 23:20

Op if the vet is no help then I'd start keeping a water spray near you and giving him a face full whenever he starts

Ibizafun · 16/04/2021 23:26

Totally unhelpful but Ivfbeenbusy I couldn’t help but laugGrin this is a first for me does a car really smell hormones? I’ve just upped my dose of HRT and my neutered boy’s getting very friendly...

Ibizafun · 16/04/2021 23:27

A cat not a car!

LouNatics · 16/04/2021 23:31

I had a neutered male once who really REALLY loved his teddy bear IYSWIM.

He loved it a lot, I mean a few times a day.

Currently have a male neutered cat that sprays. Bloody males are so problematic.

Theunamedcat · 16/04/2021 23:32

My cat did this when the vet put him on medication (he was depressed) I rang the vet up requested a change theu asked why I said I wanted a happy cat not a horny one receptionist said woops we will sort that for you just give us an hour and perhaps squirt him.in the meantime or give him a cushion your no longer fond of Blush

Yup! The vet thought it was hilarious 🤣 the horny little bastard has some stamina though - he could be at it for ages on my arm when I was too tired to shove him off!! Then he'd lick my nose and fall asleep snoring in post coital bliss!
He's a furry pregnancy test 🤣

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/04/2021 07:49

I will get him checked. It’s been happening for almost a year. But it’s been ramping up. To start with he was only kneading. I was really pleased because I’d never seen him do it and thought he wouldn’t ever relax enough to knead.

He’d been very badly abused in his kitten hood.

Then the humping started. Now it’s ramped up to every night. I wasn’t concerned til my DC said he did a little wee afterwards. I wondered if it was something else.

He is happy otherwise. But I wonder if he is stressed with these cats next door. He chases them out of the garden and goes crazy if we touch them. I think he’s territorial.

For context he’s a tiny cat. 3.5 kg. Not a beefy bruiser!

Veterinari · 17/04/2021 08:31

It sounds like anxiety/self-soothing behaviour
Might be worth trying zylkene or yucalm on him for a while

ivfbeenbusy · 17/04/2021 10:48

@DobbyTheHouseElk

It's always the small ones! Our smallest cat is also the territorial sex pest 🤣
