Inspired by a similar thread in the Doghouse topic (and because DH is a bit fed up of me going on... and on... and on about it), can we have a thread about how wonderful our cats are?

We got our boy from a rescue 2 years ago when he was 18 months. He had been given up by his previous family, we don't know why. Sometimes I can't believe how lucky we were that they did that.

He sleeps on our bed every night and never wakes us up or asks for food at 4am (as all his predecessors did Smile). He goes for walks with us round the neighbourhood, chats to everyone (including dogs!) and has friends at most of the houses on our street. When we get home he is often sitting at the front door waiting for us. He loves head rubs and giving nose bumps. He's incredibly tolerant of the 3 small humans in the house and has a very close friendship with DD(7). He loves pancakes and, when we make them for breakfast, he sits in the toddler's booster chair and awaits his portion patiently. I've had lots of cats over the course of my life and they've all been my favourite in their own way but he really is a special little soul.

Anyone else?

I currently have 3. We rescued a kitten last August and she is my absolute world. My hearts melts a little everytime I see her.

We got our boy at the beginning of February, aged about 8 months, and he is universally adored, we got so lucky.

As a child we had a cat, but he spent most of his time outside and would occasionally allow a stroke, but most definitely wasn’t a lap cat. Dexter is the perfect mix of independent and cuddly, likes a lap (mine for preference!) if you’re sat still, but doesn’t hassle for attention all the time.

He’s becoming more and more chatty, and tells us clearly when he wants to play by leading us over to the toy drawer and shouting at us until we comply!

We’d debated getting a cat for literally years but always came up with a reason not to, and sometimes I regret waiting so long, but if we hadn’t, we wouldn’t have had him.

Yes I adore our rescue cat! He had already been earmarked for rescue by another family but the day they were due to collect him they changed their minds as their daughters had said that black cats don't look good on Instagram Hmm he's a gorgeous loving boy, no trouble, he sleeps in the front room and only scratches at my bedroom door in the morning during week as he knows I have to get up for work, at weekends he doesn't scratch until around 9am he lets me lie in!! He's great with my daughter and so long suffering when she constantly wants to cuddle him, very sociable will always come and see visitors and is very much part of the family.

lollipoprainbow · 11/04/2021 11:49

This is him!!

Op must be new. Dcat thread and no pic?
A fishy tale/tail indeed.

Our Burmese boy Cracker (because he's cream, and we got him at Christmas) is equal parts adorable and annoying as hell, I wouldn't change him for the world though. My DH and I frequently marvel at just how naughty he is. He can open doors and jump through tiny gaps in windows, so is always turning up where he shouldn't be. He is obsessed with getting as high up as he can, and frequently jumps on top of the kitchen units to gaze down at us like a gargoyle. He is incredibly vocal and constantly shouts at us. His voice is really quite strange and easily confused with a baby's cry. He's so affectionate - overly so sometimes, the other day he literally jumped into the arms of a delivery man! We have a 3 month old baby and Cracker is so good with her. He nuzzles her and lets her stroke him (and only sometimes steals her toys). I think they'll be great friends when she's older.

Nemo is currently our best cat out of five. The other four are fabulous in their own ways.

We found Nemo abandoned in a hedge by a river. He was about 8 weeks old when we found him and was absolutely no trouble. He was fully litter trained and is just the friendliest creature. All the other cats in the house accept him, even psychopathic black cat likes him. That's some achievement given that she usually bites first and then asks questions.

He likes humans, his favourite thing is to be carried around in your arms like a baby. He greets you every time he sees you and chirrups at the other cats. He has a very sunny personality.

My two are amazing. Cheddar is just bonkers (and very noisy) Magic is an absolute unit.

Sorry, I am new! Will try to attach a picture, if it works, it’s Tig curled up in his big sister’s bed.

I love all your stories and photos! How amazing is Nemo and his story Smile

Beautiful cats. Some are very in-sync with their person, it’s like having a little bit of your heart roaming around doing cat stuff.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/04/2021 18:40

Ours are identical jet black Bro/Sis , they've been with us two years nearly ( 3yo)
We often have to second guess if it's Him or Her .
Usually the body language is the give away .
He is still quite timid and will bolt if he's startled . He acts (to quote Terry Prachett) like he's "stealing air" Grin
She prowls about the house in total security of ownership of all the rooms . He likes the garden and His Shed .

One thing I noticed recently - he is totally silent when he walks on hard floors . she clicks as her claws are slightly extended .

What a wonderful thread! Keep the stories (and photos) coming, please.

My boys, making sure I don't own any cat hair free clothes by hanging out in the wardrobe Grin
I got them from pets4homes hides The woman was selling one kitten (possibly because he's part lemur and she was sick of him climbing her curtains 😂) then decided she couldn't manage even one kitten so I got to take them both. They were 10 weeks when I got them, 2 years old now

UhtredRagnarson · 11/04/2021 21:05

Awww! He sounds awesome OP!!

I have a boy and a girl cat.

Girl cat is 10 and very set in her ways. Likes peace and quiet and spends most of her time either on the rug in my bedroom or on my bed. She’s very polite and only ever makes a squeak when her dish is empty. Low tolerance of boy cat. I can’t blame her really.

Boy cat is 7 and an absolute riot. Thinks he’s a dog. Zoomies round the house at stupid o’clock in the morning. Forgets where the upstairs is and miaows very loudly if he can’t find us downstairs. Catches bits of litter in the garden and brings them to the house for us. Bites DS1s feet. Sleeps with his head in my slippers. Loves heat. Gets stuck in awkward places.

awesomekillick · 11/04/2021 22:34

I have a 6 year contract of rescue cat who is of a serious bent, worries about the world, tells me his woes in detail, goes no further than 10 feet from me, and loves a stroke but goes rigid with anxiety of picked up. I adore him. He's kinda funny looking. To make his life complete I got him a kitten. He's very friendly with random cats and came from a hoarder house so I think ok a punt he'd like her. I was correct. So now I also have a girl rag doll. Oh god is she beautiful. And funny. And loving. I get to cuddle her like a baby! She's perfect. She loves him. She loves everyone. We - me and boy cat - adore her.

That is an awesome pic, awesome!
Matt is seven later this month. Big, bold, handsome tabby. We decided to get a kitten after we got back from holiday, couldn't resist looking on the local RSPCA website and fell in love with him but he was reserved. We looked again when we got back and he was available again as his new home had fallen through so it was clearly meant to be. We had him the next day and he took everything in his stride. I took him to my DM's sometimes, and on holiday with us. His favourite place is lying on the radiator, and he has a deep, demanding howl.
Matt was an Only Cat until two years ago when DD1, who had temporarily moved out, acquired a kitten. Socks is black and white, skinny, and has a high pitched squeak. She's very timid and not a lap cat but snuggles up to me in bed all night. She and Matt get on OK now, and will occasionally play together, but they don't cuddle each other. I have to stop greedy guts Matt eating Socks' food.
And then DD1 acquired a dog from some travellers. Venus is a Staffie cross, about three, we think. Much bigger than the cats, but Matt is definitely the boss. He swears at the poor dog when she tries to play with him, lashes out at her if she gets too close, and stands in the doorway preventing her from coming back in from the garden. He was on the drive today when I brought her back from her walk and the disgruntled expression on his face clearly said, "Did you have to bring her back? Couldn't you have lost her somewhere? Or sold her back to the travellers?" Grin
They're all so different but I love them to bits.

Our old boy is 18 so doesn't do very much these days but he is a sweetie and still has his mad moments! He is currently curled up next to me snoring and it's very cute. Here he is...

I don't have children yet but sometimes I look at our cats and I can't imagine loving anything else in the world as much as them.

They're tonkinese and incredibly friendly, loyal and hilarious. Every morning recently I've woken up and one has her face next to mine on the pillow and her body under the duvet and I cannot get over how cute she looks. They follow us everywhere, are insanely cuddly and I often speak to them like they're people because I assume they can understand.

TofuDelights · 12/04/2021 22:48

Of course they understand! They are just working our how best to get you under the paw! Grin Easter Smile

Trying without pics as it refuses to post...

I love these threads!

Here are my two - sisters from the same litter, from a local rescue, came to me at six months old. I was trying to adopt greyhounds and 7 years later I'm still baffled, but the fluffy little idiots are my whole world, I love them more than I knew was possible.

DNinjaCat, the black one, is absolutely ridiculous, gets in all sorts of mischief and scrapes, has no fear at all and is also the cuddliest cat I have ever met - she likes to sleep with her paws round my neck under the duvet with me 🥰

DFluffyCat is more reserved, Queen of all she surveys, keeps me and any visitors I have in order and generally supervises whatever I'm doing to make sure it's up to scratch. She's also very cuddly now but I couldn't touch her for months when she arrived, she was the terrified runt of the litter. So now when she comes and makes small noises for cuddles I want to cry with happiness.

They've taken to putting themselves to bed together after dinner since my back has been sore and they can't snooze on my bed - I can't get over how sweet and good they are!

I never expected to feel like this about cats and I'm well and truly converted - but can't imagine ever having other pets who steal my heart like these two, they are a pair in a million and I love them with my whole heart 💙

I cried for weeks and weeks when my cat Buns, 19, died recently, my heart still breaks for her and I think about her everyday.
I have a new cat now who is helping me with my heartbreak, she is just perfect, she is the sweetest little black and white and tabby, she never scratches the furniture, she is so cute and chirrups at me all day long, she is neat and tidy in the litter tray, very cuddly yet happy to be alone when I am at work, she is an 11 year old.
She went straight to the scratching post when we got home - it was untouched during the reign of Buns who preferred to destroy the carpet Grin
I am learning to love again.

undermycatsthumb · 13/04/2021 16:39

Some really beautiful stories. I love how many cats on this thread like to snuggle up in bed...

Shehasadiamondinthesky I'm sorry for your loss and so glad your new little friend is helping you with your heartbreak.
