Just brought our rescue boy home

We’ve just today been to pick up our rescue boy from the RSPCA.

We live near a road so didn’t want a roamer so we chose an FIV positive boy who needs to kept indoors until we get our “catio” built in a few weeks.

He miaowed for the ENTIRE 2 hour journey home, jumped straight out of the cat box and onto the worktop, scoffed his dinner in 2 seconds flat and has not let us stop tickling him for a second. He’s just parked himself on the bed for a nap and is protesting loudly if my partner stops scratched his ears for even a second....

Congratulations on your boy, sounds like he’s happy to be with you Grin what’s his name?

user1471548941 · 03/04/2021 19:38

His name is Flynn but the rescue staff were calling him Flynnegan and he responds much better to this!

I remember my name parents bringing home rescue cats before and them being terrified and hiding on top of the fridge for weeks! This boy’s confidence has rather amazed me but we love him! 😍

King Flynn has accepted us as his slaves! I cannot move an inch and am still getting constant headbumps for fuss after nearly 4 hours of constant fuss!

So sweet.

Fluffyandsilly · 03/04/2021 23:22

Awww he looks lovely!
DH and I adopted an FIV boy a couple of months ago and he is the best. In fact I’m typing this one handed as he’s fallen asleep on my left hand and I don’t want to move him Grin

Our boy was super needy initially but has chilled out a bit now he’s settled in. He still likes to sit on a lap for most of the evening though.
We love him so much.

user1471548941 · 03/04/2021 23:28

Ahhh thank you everyone. The RSPCA think he’s been a stray for pretty much all 4 years of his life so I thought he deserved some admiration and a chance to show off his new home! The love is REAL!

Ohhhhhhh... hello King Flynnegan! Very handsome boy you've got there 🥰

I too have an FIV+ rescue boy... and the same bed linen 😁. He doesn't have a catio but he does get 2 long walks a day, usually about an hour each.

This is my chap 😊

ThatsShitTryHarder · 04/04/2021 09:55

Our rescue sleeps for 22 hours a day but can be woken in an instant if someone shuts a door in the next street Grin

Oh he’s needy alright! Neither of us got a wink of sleep as he “chatted” to us until 5am....

Oh my gosh these beautiful rescue cats!

@YesItsMeIDontCare at the risk of detailing the thread slightly, how did you harness train your gorgeous cat?
I’ve thought about it for my boy. He’s 10 years old and hasn’t shown much inclination to go outside, so I’m not sure if he’d go for it. But he was stray for a while before we got him and I think it would be nice to give him the option to go outside again if the harness training isn’t too upsetting for him. Can you teach an old cat new tricks?!

Here he is Smile

YesItsMeIDontCare · 04/04/2021 12:40

@Fluffyandsilly - Luck!

I don't think you can train a cat to go out on a harness, the best way to describe it is that it's a condition of going out. Want to go out? Jacket on. Don't want jacket on? Not going out.

Leroy was almost desperate to go out so DH opened the door a crack and I tried to put the jacket on. The excitement of the open door was greater than the horror of having a jacket on.

It's nothing like walking a dog. Leroy goes - I follow. We will sometimes sit/stand in the same spot forever 🤦🏼‍♀️. If I need him to go a certain way (like home 🙄) I have to carry him.

He has a Mynwood Jacket and a bog standard small dog extending lead.

Hope it goes well for you!

Fluffyandsilly · 04/04/2021 12:50

Hahah! I am laughing at your advice @YesItsMeIDontCare
You’re totally right! Cats will only do what they want to do!
I’ll maybe try getting him a jacket and lead if he seems like he wants to get outside as it gets warmer.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 04/04/2021 15:41

Oh, OP. You've got yourself a prize there. What a cutie.
