New arrival; so happy!

OK, new cat arrived here last night.

She is just over 1, bought with an intent to breed but her owner is having health issues so we have her now. We don't intend to breed her.

We need to go to the petshop to get feliway, some de-flea stuff, some dreamies but she has eaten some of her food, wee'd in her litter tray (currently open but the cover is ready to go one in a while)

I need to sort out a visit to the vet for injections and to talk about spaying - should I wait for a few days before disturbing her more

And I also need to sort out insurance

She has taken position of the highest point - i may have to pop some lino up there to protect the wood

Photo tax....plenty more to follow once she calms down a bit

Oh that's fantastic! I'm so pleased that you got a new cat. I know how much you've wanted one after Flynn.
What breed is she and will you be changing her name? I hope she calms down and realises that she's safe and wanted.

KatyMac · 16/03/2021 07:49

She was sold as Siamese but we'll check with what the vet thinks her head is quite round

Her colouring is beautiful!

DH (the toad) has already gone from the 'bloody cat you want to 'pretty puss, I cant wait to cuddle her' fickle bugger

Her name is quite pretty but 2 syllable so we will see how it goes

I’m glad you got another cat. Your dh came around quick didn’t he?.

KatyMac · 16/03/2021 08:00

Yeah within minutes of her getting in the car! Despite him being at home

OP posts:
KatyMac · 16/03/2021 16:33

Will de-fleaing her make her more anxious should I wait a few days?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 16/03/2021 17:40

I’d wait a day or two. That’s a Dh job anyway surely? “She’s sooo much better behaved with you dh” dh “well it’s my natural affinity with cats dw”

CoronaCurls · 16/03/2021 18:10

She looks like a blue or lilac point Siamese, although she does have quite a round head. Did she come with GCCF pedigree papers if she was originally bough for breeding?

She is gorgeous (but I'm biased as I have 3 Siamese).

I wouldn't rush with flea treatment unless you see any on her. Let her get settled in.

KatyMac · 16/03/2021 18:32

She is a lovely gray colour and her fur feels 'right'

No papers we are her third home

First struggled when they went back to working long hours after covid/furlough
Second is having landlord/health issues

So now it's us

She has eaten and wee'd and once she has poo'd ill feel happier even if she is still avoiding us

The top of the cupboard in the conservatory is great for her - I have made a box with a blanket and we will just leave her be for a few days to see what happens

She escaped from her basket in the car and slept on DD's knee for over an hour so I think she will be ok long term as long as we reduce all stress for the next few days

@Fluffycloudland77 no, that's a 'me' job along with medication....he does litter

I also used to do media for my mums cat, I have the knack!

@CoronaCurls how defined is the difference between blue & lilac; is a non expert able to tell?

OP posts:
CoronaCurls · 17/03/2021 05:03

I've had another look at the photos and I'm pretty sure she is a blue point - she is much darker than my lilac point. More photos would be very helpful though Grin!

Allergictoironing · 17/03/2021 08:01

Remember that the coat darkness can change, depending on whether they are kept in hotter or colder environments i.e. hotter = paler coat, colder = darker coat.

KatyMac · 17/03/2021 09:53

& of course she is hiding in corners so I cant get good photos

She has poo'd and wee'd again
She is eating huge amounts
I havent seen her drink but you never know

As she has done a poo I have covered the litter tray - I left it open as I wanted to be sure she knew where it was

Our previous cat was on applaws tuna how good/bad is that?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 17/03/2021 12:09

Attacking Feet!!!

Ow!

OP posts:
CoronaCurls · 17/03/2021 13:37

I think Applaws is good quality food - mine love it!
Siamese can change colour with temperature but it is quite slow and isn't very obvious on cats that are mostly inside.
Is this your first Siamese OP?

KatyMac · 17/03/2021 14:16

3rd siamese plus one as a child and 2 Orientals!

A chocolate point, a seal point, a tabby point (totally adorable)

She is a bit hissy still but has tried to get close to both DD and I; then running so she is getting braver

I have plans for a catio

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 17/03/2021 16:16

A catio sounds fab

KatyMac · 17/03/2021 19:03

She is joining in with family games

She suddenly got friendly!

I think she is on heat

Should I let her settle before I take her to the vet or will she be more comfy if I get her done sooner?

Ring the vet and ask. Is she being noisy?.

KatyMac · 18/03/2021 19:47

She has been pretty silent since she got here- bit of hissing

Oh and I deflea'd her maybe its that

OP posts:
KatyMac · 18/03/2021 19:48

I'll ring the vet tomorrow - I would rather have had her for a couple of weeks before the op

OP posts:
CoronaCurls · 18/03/2021 22:28

If she is on heat you will know! She will wail loudly 24/7 and will reverse up to you with her bum in the air.

It takes a few days to work up to her being fully on heat, so it might be her beginning to call.

KatyMac · 18/03/2021 22:33

"reverse up to you with her bum in the air" all evening

She is doing a little mew!

Do I get her spayed first or get insurance first?

I was going to get insurance then go to the vet after

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 18/03/2021 22:35

I’d just get insurance anyway.

KatyMac · 19/03/2021 00:27

I was petplan before; I guess they are as good as any
