Suddenly lovely cat... I am suspicious

My 2 1/2 year old boy has always been lovely but independent, a bit wild and not very cuddly (I posted not to long ago about getting sod all but dead mice from him).

The past couple of weeks he has become my little shadow, constantly purring, sitting on my lap whenever he can and tapping my leg for attention (I nearly cried when he did that).

He's my first ever cat I've had from a kitten so I don't know if this is just something that happens? Is he emerging from the terrible twos into lovely soppy boy or does he just want something from me?

I think it’s a combination of growing up and the weather. He’s a handsome chap!

WannabeOT · 23/02/2021 17:56

Only time my moody cat did this was in the first trimester of my pregnancy! Literally every time I sat down she was on my lap within seconds

TroysMammy · 23/02/2021 17:59

Haribo used to sit on my lap as a little kitten but soon grew out of that. Recently he's been sitting on my partner's lap around 9pm. The heating goes off at 8.30pm and little lord obviously starts getting cold. I've got restless legs so my lap is a no-go at that time of night.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 23/02/2021 17:59

He’s a cat. He’s just messing with you... my human teenager is the same. I am also very suspicious...

Toddlerteaplease · 23/02/2021 18:19

It's taken 5 years for one of mine to become a lap cat, possibly because she's learned from my other cuddle monster that it's ok.

JorisBonson · 24/02/2021 09:40

I take it back. I was rudely awakened at 3.30 by my feet being violently bitten, before he sat on my head and bit my nose.

What a liar.

It was all part of the plan... I love cats.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/02/2021 09:54

So just lulling you into a false sense of security then?

They do that Grin

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 24/02/2021 10:00

What?! 😂

I think I’ll stick to dogs if I’m ever to have a pet in the future. I could forgive the feet but not the nose 🤭

TeaMilkNonePlease · 24/02/2021 10:10

We had two cats, one a lap lover and the other not. When the lap lover had to go on the one way trip to the vet, the other became a lap lover overnight. I don't know why a sole cat in a household might do that, but I know why she did.

samlh · 24/02/2021 11:21

My cat was all for my husband... until I got pregnant and he became a right little mummy's boy!

He now loves to sit on my stomach when i'm lay down and is my shadow.

He knew I was pregnant before I did :)

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 24/02/2021 14:08

My vote is for him having a chat with some ferals and discovering how much worse life could be, so he's making sure he keeps you sweet.

Both Ashycat and I have not been well in the last month. I was in bed, hoping she'd come in and get on the bed, keep me company and snuggle. Did she bugger. She slept on the sofa and if I went in to the living room, her attitude was very much "feck off!!! I'm ill!!!"

JorisBonson · 24/02/2021 14:10

I've been out for work for a few hours so we'll see if nice cat has made a return when I get home.

Inconsistent little bastard.

Girl cat also decided she wanted a cuddle in the wee small hours and made continual biscuits on my arm. They have made me very tired and grumpy today 😂

OP, your cat is luring you into a false sense of security. Once you think you've got him sussed, he will turn cold again. He wants to keep you on your toes.

Cats. Whaddaya gonna do, eh.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/02/2021 09:45

I was trying to get to sleep after my nights this morning with Cheddar making biscuits on my face, and pressing my eyes with her paws. Cheddar drool on my face is not what I want. Especially not long after she's puked!

JorisBonson · 26/02/2021 09:49

@Toddlerteaplease DH gets that from girl cat after every single night shift - her latest one is chewing his beard.

DH has taken to using the hair clippers to trim his beard after waking up to find his face being licked by the cat.

Joris any return of the Nice cat mode or was it all a ruse to let you know what you could have had if he didn't usually think you a total loser?

JorisBonson · 26/02/2021 13:13

I was out the house for 16 hours yesterday and he was RIDICULOUS when I got home, didn't stop clinging to me all night. Came to bed with me and made biscuits in my leg for what felt like years.

Today the sun is out so I've hardly seen him - he occasionally comes in and looks grubbier and grubbier each time.

🤷🏻‍♀️

He is also enjoying singing me the song of his people.

What does it mean he “made biscuits”?! Confused Biscuit Shock

Liquorishtoffee · 27/02/2021 10:46

Is that when they knead you with their paws?

JustJustWhy · 27/02/2021 10:47

Clearly planning your fiery death.

Cat will not be a suspect.

Poppins2016 · 27/02/2021 10:58

@JorisBonson

I am definitely not pregnant! Do cats do that?? I might cry again. Cats are bloody brilliant.
Yep. My cats know when I'm pregnant (pretty much before/as soon as I took the test, both times). My fiery naughty tortie becomes such a sweet, loving lap cat... she also became my labour partner before I left for hospital to have my first baby, it was incredible (it went on for a good 24 hours and she only left my side for food and loo breaks, she was more devoted than my DH 🤣). Looking forward to seeing what happens with baby number two!

I laughed out loud. I was expecting that update Grin
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/02/2021 12:02

Thanks, Liquorishtoffee. The only thing that I was relating it to in my head was nuggets (?!) but I didn’t like where that association was going...
