Cat or your partner ?

Anonymousmumma · 20/01/2021 22:32

I mentioned mid convo I wanted a cat for myself and my son. My partner moved in a month ago (everything is still in my name ) and he threatened to leave if I got a cat . He doesn’t have good memories of them when younger as their litter trays smell, ruin your furniture and clothes. I have an allergy so would be looking at hypoallergenic , my boy loves cats and would make us happy but is choosing a cat over a man a tad rediculous?

Choosing a long-term relationship with a man who would give you an ultimatum like that is ridiculous. Far too arrogant and controlling. This is your house, he's been there 4 weeks and he's laying down the law?? Fuck that shit, quite frankly. Doesn't matter whether or not you get a cat, they are nice but certainly have their down-sides, but yet rid of the bloke.

Anonymousmumma · 20/01/2021 22:39

The comment from me saying it’s my house I can do what I want didn’t go down well 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Cat any day!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 20/01/2021 22:40

If you are allergic don’t get a cat.

GeidiPrimes · 20/01/2021 22:43

I find cats to be much better house guests than men, so I'd choose a cat. Like another poster said, there are no hypoallergenic ones though. It's a myth.

Arrierttyclock · 20/01/2021 22:45

Me and my husband were both allergic to our ginger Tom when we got him but we took antihistamines for a couple of weeks and now we have no problem with him. He's the light of our life!!

FamilyOfAliens · 20/01/2021 22:45

I take it your partner’s shit doesn’t smell, OP?

WetEcho · 20/01/2021 22:48

Our 2 cats make us all so happy, they complete our family and have brought us so much joy. My daughter and I were allergic, now we are fine. Cat over a man any day.

BarbiesWorld · 20/01/2021 23:03

Always the cat(s). Always

Furries · 20/01/2021 23:06

Cat 100% - not least because it would make your boy happy.

I hate the “LTB” type threads you often see elsewhere on here. But have to say I’d not be comfortable with those kinds of “threats” after just 4 weeks of living with you.

Springcatkin · 20/01/2021 23:08

Cat of course - you need to ask?!

CheshireCats · 20/01/2021 23:30

Cat, Fuck him off either way- who does he think he is??

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/01/2021 08:18

Cat. End of.

Having said that, there is no way I'd live with a dog.

Ragwort · 21/01/2021 08:27

Personally surely it's the sort of thing you discuss before moving in together .... I would never, ever have a pet and made it was one of the many things we discussed before getting married and getting a hone together. Even now after 30 years of marriage I would leave if my DH insisted on getting a pet.

But after just four weeks of living together - tell him you are clearly incompatible and split up.

(PS; Why does a cat food ad come up on the thread?)

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/01/2021 08:29

Bloody hell he'd be out. I’d be worried he’d hurt the cat while you weren’t looking, there was a woman on here years ago who’s dp cleaned up after the cat had an accident and squirted multisurface cleaner into the cats eyes to teach it a lesson.

My mother always said you can’t trust people who don’t like animals & I've found it to be true over the years.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/01/2021 08:36

He threatened to leave? You mean he feels very strongly about not wanting a cat in what is now his home, because you allowed him to move in, and said he would have to leave if there was a cat brought into the house.
If your relationship doesn't mean much to you (which it must if he now lives with you and your child) then get a cat and let him leave. If it does, don't get the cat.
You have posted this in the litter tray. People here are nuts about cats, and as you can see most have said give up your partner for a cat, but imo that's ridiculous.

Oh fgs so dramatic. The guy doesn't like cats and now he's being accused of being some cat abuser. See this place os nuts!
Fluffycloudland77 · 21/01/2021 08:49

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion Yeah you got me I’m a man hater.

monicacat · 21/01/2021 08:57

I would choose a cat, maybe two.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/01/2021 09:01

@Fluffycloudland77 yeah thats what I said 🙄 again, with the over reacting!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/01/2021 09:45

See this place os nuts!

If it is too nutty for you then feel free to leave and don't let the catflap hit you on the backside on the way out.

I'm with you Fluffy! Although I cannot imagine Mr Fluffy saying 'no' to a cat for a millisecond well trained and knows the odds-

RealisticSketch · 21/01/2021 09:49

I'm hoping the 'I'll leave if you do' and the 'it's my house I'll do what I like' were both said firmly tongue in cheek, otherwise you sound like a disaster waiting to happen. 😳

Yeah probably should tbh, and I advise the OP to do the same. The responses on this board are not reflective of real life.

And yet he’s threatened to leave the OP if she gets a cat and somehow that’s not ridiculous?

Such double standards.

Furries · 21/01/2021 10:45

Thankfully there’s one person on this thread who isn’t like anyone I know in real life! 🐱💕
