Anyone elses cat give them absolutely sod all?

Lighthearted obvs.

Boy cat goes out all night, sleeps on his own all day and only gives me any sort of attention when he wants food. He is stubbornly independent and seems to think he doesn't need humans (except for food).

Anyone else have a little furry ghost that they never see?

(By contrast, girl cat is DH's shadow and literally never leaves his side. I get fuck all from her too).

Almost the nothing. I do get rubs when he wants his grub and a slap in the morning, reminding me to get up and feed himGrin. The rest of the time he sleeps day and night, and pops out from time to time.

The lady of the house is a real scaredy cat and spends most of her time upstairs. She's very sweet, but not a lap cat.

I'm just the resident slave. I don't mind, as long as they're happyWink

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/01/2021 18:12

I get frequently bitten and scratched. I could understand this if I was constantly all up in his business, but I leave him alone unless he asks for attention. Which he frequently does, then punishes me for providing it with Sad

Pipandmum · 10/01/2021 18:16

I had a cat who didn't like being held or touched much (did like the odd tummy rub though). But wherever I was she'd eventually show up and settle down somewhere. It was nice having her around even if it was just together but separate.

StCharlotte · 10/01/2021 18:18

I've always had incredibly affectionate cats so I'm quite upset that our current two don't give me the time of day. It makes me miss their loving predecessors even more.

Girl cat might sit on my lap or snuggle next to me for a few minutes but never settles. Boy cat just looks at me with open disdain.

Is it bad that I'd like to be "adopted" by a grateful stray?

Lovemusic33 · 10/01/2021 18:21

My cat is over friendly, I feel lucky now 🤣, he’s by my side all day and all night and every time I get up to make a cup of tea he follows me.

RNBrie · 10/01/2021 18:22

Our cat is pretty remote. We generally don't see her during the day unless its meal times. She shows up in the living room at 10.30pm without fail and flops on the floor for a tummy rub. Some days she likes to be in the same room and will settle on the floor or on a chair near by but she doesn't tolerate much interaction. She's very aloof and we all adore her!

JorisBonson · 10/01/2021 18:27

I'm glad it's not just me.

Have had boy cat since he was 9 weeks old, my first ever kitten in a long line of adult rescues. He's 2 now and I thought he would be my best friend and think I was his mum. HOW WRONG I AM.

One of mine is like this, she dose a long whiny meow if you try to pick her up and just meows normally if you talk to her but she doesn't want to be stroked much or anything at all, she will however follow me from room to room but she still wants to keep a distance.
Boy cat likes to be out all night and sleeps a lot but he will sit on your lap and loves being stroked.

JorisBonson · 10/01/2021 18:46

A rare moment of contact with the boy in question.

I have a horrible cat, she's so mean. If you touch her she'll bite, walk past her she attacks and growls. She even attacks us in our sleep.
We actually have to put her out on the doorstep every night (no cat flap but has a special 'house') because she was scratching the kids during the night.
I got another cat after 4 years as I read that might help with her behaviour. It didn't.

We love her anyway even though she's a massive dick.

NotMeNoNo · 10/01/2021 18:53

Boy cat is basically a lodger. He's an ex stray, possibly never forgave us for neutering. Very occasionally he will sit next to us, like if we have just got back from a holiday. Redeeming feature is that he's devoted to my ASD teen and spends hours in his bedroom unfazed by meltdowns and manhandling.

JorisBonson · 10/01/2021 18:55

@NotMeNoNo lodger is the word I've been searching for!

I'm ranting now. He needs a supplement in his evening food and is refusing to get out of bed. Muggins here had taken him his dinner up. He's eaten it, bitten me when I stroked him and gone back to sleep. He'll be up at 9 and will sod off to God knows where until tomorrow morning when we'll do it all again.

What an arsehole.

(I love him very much)

At two is he not still teenager? What teenager wants to be seen acknowledging his mum?

We quite often refer to Casper as the grumpy lodger that none of us like.

This is true 😂

Sounds like my older cat, he's almost 3 and is exactly the same. Always has been, never been an affectionate cat. We have a 4 month old kitten and he is the complete opposite, will not be left alone and loves a cuddle. I put this down to being a lockdown cat and always having me at home, whereas the older cat didn't have such luxuries!

nzeire · 11/01/2021 04:50

It took FOUR years of love numbing for my cat to tolerate me. FOUR years.
She’s 10 now, and quite affectionate, I hung in there

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 11/01/2021 06:05

Mines the complete opposite. He craves for snuggles and always has done. Even more so now he's older. His favourite thing at the moment is to come and lay across my chest and snuggle under my chin and neck and rest his bum on my arm to support himself. I love it too because he's like a little hot water bottle when we're snuggled up together. Plus I think he's making up for over 2 years of missed snuggles. Some days though he'll take himself off to bed and wait till I go, come up for a bit of a snuggle and then go lay back down at the end of the bed either on top of or between my lower legs and feet

JorisBonson · 11/01/2021 06:33

I'm very jealous @HopingForOurRainbowBaby!

I'm wondering if boy cat has a MN account and felt bad for his behaviour as he actually slept on our bed last night. Think he regretted it when DH's alarm went off at 4am though.

I'll swap you for one of mine who is basically glued to me all night, every night. His favourite place to sleep is right in between my legs, so I basically just sleep with my legs apart now Grin Quite uncomfortable at first but I'm too soft to move him...!

Girl cat is glued to DH's face at night and will walk over him if he dared to roll over

Our boy cat is like this. He will sit on DDs lap because she drags him there, but he will stay. He will not sit with anyone else. He plays with DS1, other than that he is very aloof and independent. I only see him in the mornings for food.

Clarich007 · 11/01/2021 15:47

Wow I could have written the exact same post as you Joris !!
6 years old, had him 4 years, and he doesn't give a stuff about me at all.I get bitten and scratched into the bargain.
You are not alone 😼

Regularsizedrudy · 11/01/2021 15:51

My cat has to be sat on me or within a metre 24/7 and screams like a baby if I talk to anyone. Careful what you wish for!
