Lighthearted obvs.

Boy cat goes out all night, sleeps on his own all day and only gives me any sort of attention when he wants food. He is stubbornly independent and seems to think he doesn't need humans (except for food).

Anyone else have a little furry ghost that they never see?

(By contrast, girl cat is DH's shadow and literally never leaves his side. I get fuck all from her too).

My cat appears for food and door opening, other than that I might as well not exist.

She keeps all her actual affection for DD... who’s moved out, you’d think she’d switch to one of us, but nope...

I'm glad I'm not the only neglected cat mother.

My current rescue cat was very aloof when I first got her, age 6. She bit me once, so I smacked her head - just lightly, as a mother cat would cuff an unruly kitten, while staring dominantly right into her eyes and saying “No! Bad cat!” quite loudly at her.
She, being a feisty madam, tried to bite once more a few days later and got the same treatment.
She has never bitten or scratched me in the four years since, and we have slowly built up a good relationship. I grow catmint for her in the garden, give her treats such as Dreamies, and play with her regularly using toys and string she can chase and pounce on. She has free access all areas, including outside via her cat flap, but now chooses to sleep curled up on my feet. She will happily sit beside me on the sofa and will let me stroke and groom her for quite a while before getting bored and strolling away. She is an excellent mouser - my DC call her the Verminator!
I think some breeds are more affectionate than others, but you can work on behaviour modification with most of them, to improve things to some extent.

According to the rescue, boy cat is from a sphynx mum and they think a Siamese or Egyptian mau dad. So he likes climbing and is a dickhead 😂

My boy cat is only friendly when he wants food. He gets fed at 5pm and will start to rub around us from about 4.30 he's with me now being very affectionate. I have taught him to stand up on his hind legs and bump faces with me when i say kisses too him. We keep him in a night and he will sometimes sleep near us, but mostly he prefers to be by himself. He does bite me a bit but not very hard. He also likes to suckle on a small lump i have on my arm which is cute.

One of my cats is my baby and follows me around, sleeps under my chin at night.
Another one will give me friendly eye blinks but loves DD the best
My oldest cat is quite happy to sleep most of the day but when awake will give me 5 minutes of the most intense cat love (kneading, dribbling, purring) before kicking me and wanting putting down. She likes to be alongside you but not fussed much.

Boy cat is a bit of an arse but after 13 years he no longer bites. He hisses though and storms out. He has never sat on my lap but occasionally sits by me. He tolerates the odd head rub. We have showered him with everything his little cat heart could desire but nah. Everything is on his terms.

Girl cat is much more affectionate and is attached to me although she does like some alone time.

Boy cat is a big lump of love when he's around although spends much of his time sleeping in the garden - he regularly brings presents home - girl cat hates being picked up or petted, will sometimes roll for her tummy to be rubbed but then bite you when she's had enough, she's devoted to teenage dd though and they nap together for hours
