Help me name my new rescue cat

Hi

I am collecting a lovely female tabby (18 months) from a fosterer in the week.

Shortlisted names are:

Holly
Polly
Penny

What do you think will suit her? Or have you got a better suggestion? Alternatively, I'll wait and see what fits when she's here. She is currently called Clio, but I'm not massively keen on it. Hard though... is it a bit out of order to change her name?

Also, I am preparing a room for her for peace and quiet and to help her settle in (although I live alone, no other animals and no kids). I had a cat who passed away at 15, so I have cat owning owning experience before but it's been so long since I've brought one back from the rescue place I can't remember the best way to introduce them to a new home.

Do you think spare bedroom (very quiet) or the utility room (busier/louder) would be better? She seemed quite happy to come out for a stroke in the fosterer's home, so don't think she's too shy but all the same I don't want to overwhelm her.

Any advice for a new cat mum is welcome!

Thanks

Also thinking Annie might be a nice name

I like Annie.

I'd go for spare room to start with. Nice and quiet and she can always come out quickly if she isn't shy.

stella1know · 29/11/2020 08:13

Holly, because she came to you in Winter when the holly berries were bright.

Watching for tips, it is a strange feeling, having a young cat after a long time 🐈. She is gorgeous.

frankiefirstyear · 29/11/2020 08:14

If she doesn't respond to her current name then you could change it, I quite like polly but must say I think she looks more like a cleo than any of the names you said 🙈

stella1know · 29/11/2020 08:14

And some empty boxes with blankets in the quiet spare room sounds like a good way to start. She will let you know if you prefers another room 😆 and when she wants to come out.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 29/11/2020 08:15

Congratulations, Lexjo, she's lovely!
These are all good names for her. I like Polly the most.

We adopted two boys in September and kept them in our kitchen area at first. They were initially shy, but came over to us after the first two days.

Good luck!

MaryBoBary · 29/11/2020 08:16

My favourite name is Polly but I do like what previous poster said about getting her in winter when the Holly berries are out.

MaryBoBary · 29/11/2020 08:18

Also I'd say spare room where it's quieter. Then once she's settled you can leave the door ajar and she can investigate the noisier areas of the house in her own time.

Roo1000 · 29/11/2020 08:21

I must admit I also like Cleo. If she’s 18 months old she may have already got used to the sound of Cleo...so may not respond as well to the other names suggested, as lovely as they all are! I agree with the quiet room and just leave the door open ajar and see what she does...she will soon show you who is boss lol! 😺😻

Crapbuttrue · 29/11/2020 08:40

Can you pick a name that sounds like Clio? So the intonation etc she'll recognise?

Crapbuttrue · 29/11/2020 08:40

Fuck. Cleo. She's obviously not a car.

inappropriateraspberry · 29/11/2020 08:42

I had a Penny, so voting for that! Our tabby is called Pepper.

Lexjo · 29/11/2020 09:07

Thanks all, good advice. I'll keep her in the spare room to start with and let her come around in her own time.

@Crapbuttrue I was thinking that, with a view of Chloe as a name.

I also think Renault Clio when I think of her current name and can't get over it.

Penny's my mums name and I think it's cute so that gets my vote x

Bubbletrouble43 · 29/11/2020 09:27

What about Pia? Sounds a bit like clio so might not be too much of a leap... Similarly maybe Mia, Tia etc

TroysMammy · 29/11/2020 09:28

Polly from your list or maybe Nancy.

FrankieChips · 29/11/2020 13:00

I like Annie. I also like Tabitha, Maggie, Luna, Ginny (Harry Potter fan) and I like Polly and Molly. She’s very beautiful.

Lisa78Lemon · 29/11/2020 13:12

Looks like a Mabel to me

LaBodDelMed · 29/11/2020 13:16

We tried to change our rescue cat’s name and she refused to respond to the new name!
Cleo is a better spelling than Clio though.
She looks like a Margot to me.

16purplecolour16 · 29/11/2020 13:18

Utterly gorgeous. How exciting. I think Clio might be her given not to be taken. But really like the vibe of Holly.

Scotstar · 29/11/2020 13:18

Go with chloe! I'm.biased as its my cats name but its lovely!

Alilacat · 29/11/2020 13:19

There are some good suggestions here: aiweirdness.com/post/185339301987/once-again-its-kitten-time

Toddlerteaplease · 29/11/2020 13:20

Actually, I think Holly-polly-penny is a cool name.

FawnDrench · 29/11/2020 13:20

Betsy
