Help me name my new rescue cat

Hi

I am collecting a lovely female tabby (18 months) from a fosterer in the week.

Shortlisted names are:

Holly
Polly
Penny

What do you think will suit her? Or have you got a better suggestion? Alternatively, I'll wait and see what fits when she's here. She is currently called Clio, but I'm not massively keen on it. Hard though... is it a bit out of order to change her name?

Also, I am preparing a room for her for peace and quiet and to help her settle in (although I live alone, no other animals and no kids). I had a cat who passed away at 15, so I have cat owning owning experience before but it's been so long since I've brought one back from the rescue place I can't remember the best way to introduce them to a new home.

Do you think spare bedroom (very quiet) or the utility room (busier/louder) would be better? She seemed quite happy to come out for a stroke in the fosterer's home, so don't think she's too shy but all the same I don't want to overwhelm her.

Any advice for a new cat mum is welcome!

Thanks

Thanks all, you're making it harder with all
Your suggestions! I can't wait to have her here. @16purplecolour16 - I rang up the rescue place on a Thursday and they'd just received three new intakes. I met them Friday evening and Clio/Cleo liked me the most out of the three. So that's the one. I'm collecting her Tuesday.

Isn't she lovely. Congratulations!

Does she respond well to Clio? As she's young I think there is no reason not to change her name to something you like, after all you have to live with calling her that, she won't really care - she's a cat.

Definitely quiet room with her bed in a corner so she can feel safe and then in a day or two leave the door open and let her explore another room in her own time. Just make sure you don't leave any doors or windows open as if she's going to bolt she'll do it in the first few days / weeks.

I don't think you should change her name - she'll have a lot of adjustments to make anyway.
Cleo is a fine name, but if you really can't bear it then Chloe is similar enough. I suppose she'll just think you've misheard it and get used to it in time.

Annie or penny would get my vote. All names good.
She has a majestic/statuesque kind of look in that photo which might not suit holly/polly as well?? Might be different irl.
She is absolutely glorious and beautiful.
Congrats !

rubydoobydoo · 30/11/2020 05:16

We have a Holly and she's amazing! So out of your choices definitely Holly.

Although I think yours looks more like a Sophie!

fastwigglylines · 30/11/2020 05:27

How about Kia for a name that's a bit like Cleo?

fastwigglylines · 30/11/2020 05:29

Or Leo, short for Leonie. (Again, to sound like Cleo)

Oreservoir · 30/11/2020 05:45

Our last cat was a similar age but a stray so we didnt know her name.
We called her Flossie and she responded very quickly.
I like Chloe or Molly.

SparklingLime · 30/11/2020 05:52

She looks pretty classy. I’d suggest Evangeline.

SparklingLime · 30/11/2020 05:53

Or Octavia.

PirateCatQueen · 30/11/2020 05:54

She’s lovely. Wait til you get her home, then try out lots of names until you find one that makes her give her secret cat smile.

MisiSam · 30/11/2020 05:57

Holly or Ivy nice and wintery!

Or Winter!

blisstwins · 30/11/2020 06:52

She is so beautiful. Meet her and see what feels right.

HMSSophie · 30/11/2020 06:57

Annie. Cos Orphan Annie.

KatherineJaneway · 30/11/2020 07:27

So is Clio the name the rescue gave her or the name her original owners gave her?

frankiefirstyear · 30/11/2020 15:53

Cleopatra is what I think of when I think of cleo

Lexjo · 30/11/2020 16:16

I think that's the name she came in with, not what the rescue called her. I'll find out tomorrow.

Katyusha

EachandEveryone · 30/11/2020 19:19

If she came with Cleo i would leave it at that its what shes used to and someone thought hard about her name (I hope)

KatherineJaneway · 01/12/2020 05:54

I just ask as sometimes the rescue names them if they were abandoned etc.

sashh · 01/12/2020 06:17

I also think Renault Clio when I think of her current name and can't get over it.

I thought Cleopatra, the way she is sitting is quite regal.
