My 6 year old cat has died suddenly this evening

She was six. A long haired Chantilly mix.

My son, 14, in his room. She was sat on his spare chair, he said she started choking, launched into the closed door. Fell to the ground, tongue out panting.

DH who was working in the room next door scooped her up, brought her outside, tried cpr breathing in mouth, massaging throat etc with other son.

They raced her up the vets 2 mins away. Vet took her in room but she was gone

Vet said nothing in airways.
The son who saw it us traumatised. I'm in shock. I don't know what happened. Can I talk to you on here as this game face is killing me.

I’m so sorry OP.
Cookie was a lovely cat.

Ungiven presents are always upsetting, but if you'd given it to her sooner she'd have thought Santa had forgotten her!

WhatKatyDidNxt · 10/11/2020 19:42

So sorry to hear this. You literally did all you could. Lovely picture of her xx

MrsSpringfield · 10/11/2020 19:44

Oh how sad. Poor cookie.

Our friends in London recently lost their 4 year old tabby. The poor thing had eaten something with rat poison in (possibly a mouse / rat). They were dreadfully upset.

Derekhello · 10/11/2020 19:46

She’s a very beautiful girl 💕 I’m so sorry for you all xx

kwaziseyepatch · 10/11/2020 19:46

Sorry OP
RIP Cookie Cat. Thinking of you and your family

MiddleOfTheRoad · 10/11/2020 19:47

Thanks-- am keeping an eye on them.
Cookie would paw away at the bath panel or any pane of glass in the hope it might open.

She definitely 'imprinted' on DH as a kitten and only had eyes for him.

My other cat is 10 and I thought time with her might be precious, not Cookie.
They had so many spats though.

When I heard the thud today I was in the kitchen. Assumed the cats were fighting, but Cookie had launched herself at a closed door from a gaming chair. Not like her, which made me wonder if it was a fit of some kind.

She is at the vets. My other cats were cremated but I may Bury her under a Bush she liked to get shade under.

Daffodilso sorry OP
I lost my 3yr old to a saddle thrombosis
It was sudden, traumatic and fast. It happened late a night so I lied to the kids in the morning and only told them when they got home.

I think you need to talk it through with your son, don't hide your emotions altogether. It was a horrible thing and there isn't anything that will change that.

ButterfliesandMoths · 10/11/2020 19:49

I'm so sorry for your loss. She was a beaut Thanks

pincertoe · 10/11/2020 19:58

I'm so sorry to hear this. We also have cats so I feel your pain. Your poor son having to witness this.

RIP Cookie 💔

MiddleOfTheRoad · 10/11/2020 20:07

Thank you.
We will definitely talk it over. The shock has turned to tears.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's horrible when they leave a cat-shaped hole in your life. Please talk about her here if you're able. Most of us have lost a cat and can understand the pain.

They are never, ever just a cat.

MiddleOfTheRoad · 10/11/2020 22:06

Thank you. The pain is settling in now whereas it was shock earlier.

She adored my husband. He would whistle her and she'd come.

It's so surreal tonight, sat on the sofa, without her sat on his lap. The cat bed, the massive bag of her favourite cat food delivered today.

The hole is big x

Ah OP. This thread has brought me to tears as I feel so much for you. I'm so very sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 10/11/2020 22:27

I'm so sorry Flowers

TheLongRider · 10/11/2020 22:55

She sounds as if she had a great life with you all. That's all we can ask for in this world and I would be very happy as her owner knowing that she had lived her best life with you.

There is a litter tray memorial thread that's always available if you want to tell us about her.

MiddleOfTheRoad · 11/11/2020 06:54

Thanks - a disturbed night waking up and remembering.
Will look for the memorial thread.

This is normally breakfast time. I go down and she's in her basket, scoop her up as feeding time is the only time she let's me do this (DH could do this anytime though).

I'm really very sorry about your cat - I think losing your pet suddenly like this is much harder than when you have time to prepare. Flowers

Link to the memorial thread for you.

So sorry Flowers

We lost a young cat recently - it is awful. And I know all about feeling like you have to wear your "game face". Hugs to all of you.

She sounds like such a lovely cat and the photos are beautiful .

MiddleOfTheRoad · 11/11/2020 11:14

Thank you for your messages. And for the link.
I had time to 'prepare' with my previous two older cats. I think this and a previous RTA loss have been tough because it's instant and the cats were young. She only turned six at the end of October.

Oh this is so sad I'm sorry about your gorgeous girl. I also lost my darling cat suddenly and unexpectedly in a freak accident recently at the age of 9. I am about 3 weeks on and still miss her so much. It just wasn't her time to go. I thought We had years left together. Funnily enough she also was obsessed with my DH even though I fed her. She lived to be sat on his lap.

Vinorosso74 · 11/11/2020 21:08

I'm so sorry to read this. What a shock to lose her so young. It is so true with older/ill cats you can prepare yourself. Very sad. RIP beautiful Cookie Flowers

Gatekeeper · 11/11/2020 21:14

Ohh Middleoftheroad , Im so sorry. Heartbreaking for you but esp your son Sad
