Flea advice pleeease

Hello!
I bought my lovely indoor cat a new bed from pets corner. Turns out they have a returns policy, and since I’ve brought the lovely bed home and my cat loves it; it’s given him fleas.

We used frontline on Monday but he was a wriggler so slightly skewed rather than between the shoulder blades and he did lick a bit off (cue lots of dribbling). Frontline says it should kill fleas within 4 hrs but I’ve just checked him and I’ve still found live fleas. They don’t recommend another treatment for 4 weeks.

Can I do it again? Will it overdose him? I’ve been de fleaing the home like mad I don’t want it to be in vain!!

Thanks

@dementedpixie. Well I never knew that, if I had have known that I would never have tried it. Strange though, they were done about three weeks ago and they are both flea free.

I do go over them both with a flea comb too and I haven't seen anything on them.

KylieKangaroo · 16/11/2020 15:38

Any luck getting rid @ilovemycat13 ? I tried the flea tablet today on my girl and then found a few dosile fleas. Still have to go and comb my girl again but keeping her locked in one room for now.

It's so annoying what's the point in having a cat if you can't cuddle them!

Ilovemycat13 · 16/11/2020 15:48

Nope. Back to the vets today and trying to track down indorex but no where stocks it! Should have got it on Amazon when I had the change 😞

I had been using a spray previously but I don’t think it was as good. I worked in a pharmacy a long time ago and the ingredient in indorex is the same used in cream for scabies and lice. So must be good stuff!
I know how you feel though. I’m a tiny one bed flat and I’m struggling due to lack of storage etc and I can’t isolate the cat. I’m washing all my clothes that were stored under the bed today so I can give it a real deep clean 😞

I must have got the last indorex spray! It's funny as my house has never been so clean! Still can't get rid of them though, will keep trying and itching in the process!

GiantKitten · 16/11/2020 16:13

You can get indorex online from most of the vet supplies places - also good for Advantage etc, & I get Royal Canin biscuits for a good price there too.

I’ve mostly used pet drugs online. Excellent service Smile

Ooo thank you @GiantKitten il have a look on there. My partner had managed to get some indorex on amazon prime so coming tomorrow yay!
I have combed through today as much as I was allowed and only found one so we are getting somewhere! It’s just the flat I guess

We got a kitten a few months ago, he'd gotten into the yard when hanging washing out and so happened to come across next doors cat, shoo'd him in.. few days later took him for his injections 'all is fine, but you do know he has fleas'. I could have died, when I was a child we had 2 dogs and 2 cats and they got fleas and just seemed to pass them between them with the cats being warm enough to keep the dog fleas alive til they landed back on a dog and took ages for my parents to get rid of them. The panic set in, I ordered indorex spray from amazon. We bathed him in cat flea shampoo (easier because he was only little), I ordered a seresto collar, they are a little pricey but last for 8 months and protect against ticks aswell. Id read reviews which all seemed positive but I keep an eye on his neck to make sure it doesn't make him sore. Sprayed the house twice, constantly vacuumed and we were flea free within 2 weeks.

Ilovemycat13 · 17/11/2020 19:54

@Floralgizelle sounds like you got it early and indorex is the spray to use! I am in the middle of de fleaing the house (again) this time with indorex and I think I’ve gone a bit crazy and it’s given me a headache 😂😂
Annoyingly my cat had a bad experience with a bag handle and won’t have anything around his neck ahah

I think the flea tablet has helped as I combed my cat today and couldn't find anything, still keeping her confined to one room and now to tackle the rest of the house tomorrow. I wonder how long fleas can live without the cat? This is absolutely exhausting me, I've never cleaned so much in my life!

Floralgizelle · 17/11/2020 22:44

Hopefully the indorex works, I definitely went over board with it and it can make you a bit light headed. We did keep our kitten in 1 room with wood flooring which made it easier to clean.

Its a shame about the collar we have experienced really good results with it and he does venture into the garden now with long grass so there was more risk. Im sure there's other treatments that will be just as effective.

I was really surprised/mortified to read they can live quite a while in your house without a cat. The vet said you can bring them in on your clothes even if you don't have cats which actually creeper me out as if you didn't have a cat how long are they there without you knowing 😱 probably doesn't turn into an infestation but still made me buy extra indorex with the plan to spray the house every 6 months even without the cat getting them. We found a few rouge flea after treatment that seemed a bit erratic but apparently that's when they are dying off as we thought it wasn't working so if you do spot a few it could be they are looking for another source because the cats treatment is working?

TwoHoots74 · 18/11/2020 10:45

I ordered indorex and treated any soft furnishings and went round the edges of the carpet. My landlord arranged for some flea bombs to go off. I had to get out the house for 2 hours once they had been activated but they seem to have worked and I haven't been bitten since.

Apparently the ones on Amazon aren't that strong but get the good stuff assuming from a vet and they're fab!

Ilovemycat13 · 20/11/2020 10:22

I gave my cat Bravatec yesterday from the vets, it lasts 3 months. I told them the broadline was the same as frontline and didn’t work and they gave me that. No more treatment now, the poor thing has had enough. Il just persevere with combing. He wasn’t v happy last night, he hissed a lot because he couldn’t reach it and wanted to lick it off. Then my usual not cuddly cat slept next to my head on my second pillow all night. Il comb him later when he’s relaxed and leave it at that.
How often do you use indorex spray?

dementedpixie · 20/11/2020 10:26

Bravecto?
Hope you have success with it

Ilovemycat13 · 20/11/2020 10:46

Haha yes that’s the one! 😂

Floralgizelle · 20/11/2020 10:58

I treated the full house once with 1.5 cans sprayed all the soft furnishings. Then treated again 7-10 days later but a bit more sparingly. I plan to treat the house beginning of spring just as a precaution. I would definitely recommend trying to keep cat in 1/2 rooms just for the week of treatment and pay extra attention to those rooms. We have an open plan kitchen and dinning room, I gave him a white cushion because it was then easier to see any dead fleas and know if they were dying I then just threw this out once I was more confident they were gone, hoover the cushion every day and bleached the floors (they were wood so easily done) we seemed to find we were being bit on our sofa so that's why we decided to restrict his movement through the house and treated and hoovered the couch daily washed all the covers, washed bed sheets even though he didn't go upstairs. He wasn't best pleased about not being allowed in and up on the sofa but he had plenty of room and it was only for a week. Just because I think fleas find it easier to live in soft furnishings and can make getting rid of them a nightmare. But I would recommend treating the house twice. Bravecto is also supposed to be really good!

Ilovemycat13 · 20/11/2020 11:14

Fab thank you @Floralgizelle. Annoyingly I’m in a one bed flat with an open plan kitchen and living room so I can’t isolate him anywhere. When I spray I keep him in the bedroom but I have to let him out again, it’s too small and isn’t fair. Will keep going with spraying hoovering etc 😊

OP posts:
Floralgizelle · 20/11/2020 11:19

Oh yes you do have your work cut out there and what a nightmare trying to keep him out the way when you spray. Hopefully once the treatment kicks in you will be able to start getting on top of them if I remember correctly the spray kills everything except the cocoon stage (cant remember what its called) but with the treatment lasting 3 months if they do hatch and look for food they would die anyway if they tried to feed on your cat.

KylieKangaroo · 20/11/2020 15:24

Still no luck here, managed to get the cat flea free but indorexed the whole house, then found some on the bed today! Maybe they were on the matress Confused been through a whole can of Indorex already! Hope you are having more luck Smile

Ilovemycat13 · 21/11/2020 19:15

Oh poor you @KylieKangaroo it is a nightmare. I have redone the entire flat again this morning after waking up to a bastard bite. I keep telling myself that the vet told me it can take up to 3 months to rid of them and I combed the cat today twice and my DP did it once and we haven’t found any on him. So sounds like the problem you have too! 😂

OP posts:
KylieKangaroo · 22/11/2020 19:15

Spoke to soon as I found one one flea on her today, I managed to squash it but as she has been around the whole house the whole cycle starts again! I can't clean anymore I don't have the energy at 18 weeks pregnant! Grin luckily none of us are getting bitten but still a bit grim.

Ilovemycat13 · 24/11/2020 18:21

Ah @KylieKangaroo I’m sorry! How is it today? I have gone 3 days without finding a flea on the cat. So fingers crossed we are in the right direction! I am not assuming it’s over due to the flat and it’s furnishings etc but it’s better than 2 weeks ago!

OP posts:
KylieKangaroo · 24/11/2020 18:34

That's good @ilovemycat13 hopefully you are getting on top of them! I have cleaned again today, didn't have the energy to wash duvets so just sprayed them with the indorex and aired them outside. That stuff is lethal isn't it!

KylieKangaroo · 02/12/2020 19:07

@Ilovemycat13 how are you getting on? I am on my THIRD can of indorex now and still finding fleas! I can't see any on the cat anymore but they are still in the house Angry

Ilovemycat13 · 02/12/2020 19:14

Oh no @KylieKangaroo how are you finding them in the house? Do you see them or are you getting bites etc? Do you have carpet?

I haven’t found any on the cat for over a week now and have just kept up with hoovering and the odd spray. The spray is pricey and it should last for like 6 months so I’m just using it slowly before it runs out.
