Toots is an awkward bugger

She can have a full water bowl upstairs but she will go all the way downstairs to deliberately drink from the dogs water bowl whilst glaring at them at the same time Grin

From the bird bath!

ProperVexed · 28/10/2020 13:59

Drat...photo didn't post!

Valkadin · 28/10/2020 14:58

From her own bowl but her preferred drink is from DH bedside water glass, bleurgghh.

minipie · 28/10/2020 19:33

No never! She has dry food only, water bowl is away from the food and away from litter tray (which she doesn’t use anyway). She spends at least half her life out and about so assume she drinks from puddles. Think I saw her drink a little when it was really really hot. We also tried a fountain, she was scared of it...

Our ones mostly drank from puddles or next door's pond. NDN used to get antsy watching our torti drinking from the pond but she only wanted a drink. I saw her once dip her tail in then give it a good swat!!

No apart from puddles and pebble pool in garden
But someone drinks the cat bowl water!
DP has a fountain for his Dcats but there’s no electric near enough to my feeding zone

Oldraver · 31/10/2020 11:21

Col drinks from his fountain and upstairs bowl

He also loved drinking from the pond like Ernie did but doesn't like getting his feet wet

He also jumps on the sink when I'm on the loo and expects me to turn the tap on for him

He also likes the potato water

Dog’s bowl is the preferred vessel here too, though one of the cats likes to flick water into her mouth from a dripping tap. (We always do seem to have at least one dripping tap Confused.)

Anything in a glass is fair game in this house, so we have learned to keep them out of reach.

One of my cats used to nudge the water bowl before drinking - I read it was because they prefer to drink moving/running water. So bought a cat fountain which they love.

Also knew about keeping the water away from food bowls, because of the risk of 'tainted' water.

Precious cats - will try and drink any liquid left out on the side but not their own water if it's 2cm too close to their food. Cats are ace.

Mine like to drink out of the garden pond as well. Which has the added bonus that they can watch the fish swimming.
One of mine is also a fiend for drinking out of my water glasses. I now keep a bottle of water by my bed instead of a glass as I don’t like to share

My husband’s mug

Old Lady Cat - trips over to next door's bird bath, any muddy puddle, her 2 water bowls (one in the bathroom anytime we go in there she comes too), milk every evening + any glass of water left on the floor is fair game.

She likes to lick the water off her paw in a delicate manner.

Silky Cat - Howls for the leftover milk every night. Other than that haven't noticed due to lack of stylish paw drinking.

Yes, we have running cat fountains. They drink regularly. Water bowls are not nearly as enjoyed and they would wait for us to turn on the tap and just guzzle water so I knew they must be thirsty.

middleager · 31/10/2020 16:00

Taps and cups only.
Can somebody recommend a good water fountain?

CherryValanc · 31/10/2020 16:08

Usually drinks after eating (dry food) out his water bowl. Sometimes after eating wet food.

Will always try to drink out of my water glass. I bought some tumblers which he can't get his big furry face into but I've a sneaking suspicion he might stick his paw in if I'm not looking.

justaweeone · 31/10/2020 16:13

Yes, from the toilet or a muddy puddle!
Not interested in the bowl of water provided

CherryValanc · 31/10/2020 16:28

Mine doesn't drink in the bathroom. I suspect this is because he was once discovered having a wee down the plug hole of the bath 😯

Kitchen sink tap is a favourite though

SciFiScream · 31/10/2020 17:15

I got paranoid about never seeing the cats drink so I read up about it. I now have various bowls dotted around the garden and one inside away from food and litter.

I've spotted one cat drinking from an outside bowl. Not the other though.

I spotted same cat drinking from inside bowl.

Both cats have wet food and dry food.

Yes but only from an old plastic lunchbox on the bedroom windowsill or from the birdbath. We found this out by accident when we went on holiday and I left a few more bowls of water out (a friend came in and filled them up) and found all of them empty apart from the cat’s designated water bowl!

Also he drinks LOADS. I fill it up every other day.
