Do you ever see your cat drink?

Toots is an awkward bugger

She can have a full water bowl upstairs but she will go all the way downstairs to deliberately drink from the dogs water bowl whilst glaring at them at the same time Grin

Only when I'm in the bath and the taps running, she'll drink it from the tap.

LemonBreeland · 28/10/2020 10:58

Mine prefers my glass of water, or the bottom of the kitchen sink to a fresh bowl of water. But I have seen him drink from there occasionally.

ItsNotNormalLove · 28/10/2020 11:07

Like a PP said, cats don't really like their water bowl right next to their food bowl, so if this is your setup and you don't see your cat drink, try separating the bowls. Ours were close together and we never saw him drink, then we found out about this. We moved the water bowl about a foot and a half away from the food bowl and now we see him drink multiple times a day! (Indoor cat)

yeOldeTrout · 28/10/2020 11:11

Pond water is the best (apparently). Or my glass of water.
Our tap water tastes bad after it sits for a few days, but the cats like it best then.

Inastatus · 28/10/2020 11:19

My 2 use a fountain and I see them use it quite a lot. Girl cat likes to attack the fountain first then does a little dance before settling down to drink! Weirdo!

TroysMammy · 28/10/2020 11:57

Yes, regularly from his bowl, usually after having food and regularly when the heating is on. He's stopped dipping his paw in it and swirling it around now.

TroysMammy · 28/10/2020 11:58

His water bowl is to the side of his food bowls but not next to them iyswim.

BiggerBoat1 · 28/10/2020 12:01

My cat won't drink form her bowl. She needs a pint glass filled up with nice fresh water (preferably beside someone's bed). Its not a freshness issue - we give her a clean bowl of water every morning!

bruffin · 28/10/2020 12:03

My Old cat likes the taps, rarely see her do it but there are often suspicious footprints in the sink Hmm She never really seems to dring that much

My little stray is always drinking, loves the bird bath and old cats bowl and the other bowl out in the garden.

Dreading2020sSeasonFinale · 28/10/2020 12:14

Mine won't drink in front of me but will shout at my husband (who is allergic to cats and did not hand rear her, feeding her every two hours as a newborn like I sodding did) and he has to give her fresh water. He is her preferred human slave. She doesn't care for me at all but male human slave not only has to get her fresh water, but he must carry her around the house and provide a lap to sleep on every time he sits down.

DarkMintChocolate · 28/10/2020 12:36

Oh I forgot, DBro Cat will knock over the water jug on the dining room table, when we are not in the room - so he can drink the resulting puddle on the table! Or, in the middle of the night, we hear “Lap, lap, lap” from DH’s glass of water, on the bedside table!

HotToCold · 28/10/2020 12:37

All the time.
She drinks loads!
Shes 16 and always been like this

CatRamsey · 28/10/2020 12:41

Yes quite often.

Cats prefer running water so mine have a water fountain.

willowmelangell · 28/10/2020 12:49

Bath water, rain barrel, my water glass, sink drips.
More recently a large bowl of water near the kitchen.
Individual dishes seemed to be ignored.

Bwlch · 28/10/2020 12:52

That could be the problem. If it's drawn straight from the tap, it will take a while for the chlorine taste and smell to dissipate.

Flaunch · 28/10/2020 12:53

Only from the pond. I don’t even have water down in the house any more.

BiggerBoat1 · 28/10/2020 12:53

But she drinks it straight from the tap if its in a pint glass!

Simbidian · 28/10/2020 12:55

Simcat ignores the bowl of water beside his food. I guess that he gets some moisture from wet food and that he drinks from puddles.

Angel2702 · 28/10/2020 12:57

Only from the bath or next doors puddle on their driveway.

Oh, that's interesting! My cat's preference is definitely for puddle water but after that he likes either fresh, filtered water in his bowl or to drink from a glass that's been sitting for a while (i.e. if I take a glass up to bed with me, I'll often wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of him drinking from it!) He's really not keen on fresh tap water - I hadn't considered that it might be the chlorine.
Anthilda · 28/10/2020 13:02

Only from the tap or the toilet. Weirdly she will lick the tap when theres no water coming out, so I turn it on a little so its trickling out for her and she refuses to drink it.

Had to stop using chemicals in the toilet mind when I caught her drinking out if there

BeBraveAndBeKind · 28/10/2020 13:08

Our female cat will only drink from still water in the garden. The boy cat mainly drinks from their water bowl but by dipping his paw in and licking it off. He really only laps at water in hot weather. He's also a fan of banana milkshake, tea, coffee and anything else that he can get his paws on so we can't leave drinks unattended.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 28/10/2020 13:11

@ApocalypseNowt

I once woke up in the night with my cat's bum inches from my face as she happily drank from the glass of water on my bedside table.

I now assume most of the water I drink is "cat water" Confused

Yeah I forgot my keys once and went back into the living room to catch my girl with her head shoved into my tea mug lapping away merrily, I don't know who got the bigger shock when we locked eyes Grin Thankfully it was lukewarm but I try not to think about whether this was a one off or a habit as I have a habit of getting distracted then coming back to my tea later Envy
mrshonda · 28/10/2020 13:24

From the bath tap, ignoring his water bowl

floofycroissant · 28/10/2020 13:30

Has a fancy cat fountain he chooses to ignore. I have to bribe with tuna spring water every so often just so I know he has drank something
