My cat is missing. I am distraught.

I adopted two tortoiseshell sisters, four years ago, and they have been the light of my life. Just us, they are with me almost 24/7, as I am disabled and often housebound.

On Tuesday night, Mabel went missing. I always keep them in at night (scared of cars) but somehow she found a way out, despite the window netting etc. No sign of her since. Nothing.

I have printed 50 posters and put them up all round, and slips through over 100 houses. Mabel is posted on our local missing cats page, and this has been shared and reposted over 200 times. I have called the microchip company and registered her missing, and called all the local vets. One of my carers has paced the streets in the dead of night calling for her and I am calling for her day and night.

I have used cat litter in the garden to help with scent, and I have been spending as much time outside talking as I can.

Is there anything more I can do? I am frantic. She is so very timid - a shy little home bird who had to be coaxed into loving me and then did so unreservedly. She would sit silently doing long slow blinks, and would very gently tap my arm when she thought she was owed some attention.

What else could I do? She won't have gone adventuring and is very unlikely to be hiding 'in plain sight' as she is simply so timid. She is never normally out of sugar for more than an hour T a time so this is so very out of character. She is microchipped and neutered but no collar.

What else can I do? I am so desperate.

That's lovely news OP! If her claws are all worn down she's been trapped somewhere and unable to escape - until now. What a mystery though. Could she have been somewhere in your house, if all the doors and windows are closed? It's a real mystery. I'm so glad she's back.

That ‘pet detective’ doesn’t come out of this well - thankfully! 😽

Brilliant news op!

Fantastic news so glad Mabel is back, she is beautiful by the way. My dcat did this to me she would as only 4 months old, middle of the night just appeared. Lots of cuddles and treats in order.

I am truly so touched by your comments. One of the positives out of this whole thing is how overwhelmingly kind and supportive people have been. I had total strangers organising themselves into a search party as my disabilities meant that I couldn't physically search properly. So much kindness everywhere - and how lovely to get a reminder of that when life seemed so bleak.

Perhaps foolishly, I have bought one of these: www.ubeequee.com

I shall buy another if it seems successful and both cats are happy to wear it. I just can't face the agony of that period again.

Here is Mulli sporting it on day 1. I thought she would fuss about something so substantial around her neck but she adapted almost instantly. Also attached is her movement for day 1- she really didn't go far! I thought if I learned their usual movements, that would help even if the transmitter fell off or something.

I'm so pleased for you both! And yes, that pet detective obviously knows fuck all about cats.

Q1w2e3 · 24/09/2020 21:23

Aww, this is lovely news! I’m so pleased for you. Give her a big cuddle from me!

Whatamesssss · 25/09/2020 08:44

What great news. I'm so pleased for you and her that she is home. Have you grounded her for while?

Great idea about the collars. I may get some.

So happy for you all Flowers

The broken claws thing can happen if a cat is hit by a car. So glad she’s home!
