RIP Best cat in the world

Had my almost 4 yo handsome boy PTS on Friday and we are just devastated. He was the most loved and lovely cat. I am sad for us, but also sad for him because he had a great life and should have had another 10 years of love and fun. It has knocked me and Dh sideways. We have no other pets and I am afraid that we never will again because every other cat will be inferior now. I feel like we will never get over this.

I’m so sorry, it is devastating to lose them no matter how it happens.

BikeRunSki · 12/07/2020 08:18

I’m so sorry. We had a best cat in the world. A year after he died, we got a new cat. Dvd firs time compare at all. She suffers from not being TBCITW, and I hate that DH and I compare her to UK , because she’s still very sweet, she’s just not him.

Sleep well Caitlin’s cat.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/07/2020 08:19

I am so sorry for your loss.
When my 2 year old cat died many years ago I thought I would never have another cat, such was the hurt. It's hard to lose a pet, but losing one when they are young means that your thoughts are entirely normal.

I've loved and lost several cats since then, each different, but each equally loved.

This is a sad time and I do not know the circumstances in how you lost your boy, but know that he was loved and focus on those happy times.

It is is still raw and don't think about other pets right now. Just concentrate on now. It will hurt, but you will smile again Flowers

I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP dear puss. He was lucky to have been so loved by you Thanks

EasilyDelighted · 12/07/2020 08:26

I'm sorry, that is so sad. RIP.

caitlinohara · 12/07/2020 09:35

Thank you. Dh just got teary because he was putting the leftover scrambled egg in the food waste instead of giving it to the cat! He is trying to pretend that he is most worried about me but he is just as heartbroken.

He was just a black and white moggy. Nothing fancy, but very special. Ds3 is shooting his nerf gun in the garden and remembering how dcat used to retrieve the bullets if they went over the fence. He was brilliant and bombproof in my family of 3 boys. Didn’t even flinch when ds1 was playing his drums. You could blow raspberries on his tummy and he wouldn’t even bother to open his eyes to check who you were. Followed the children to school one day and spent the day in the classroom. The teacher put him out of the door and he came back in through the window so she just let him be. He was never wary of strangers because in his experience people were always nice to him. I know that he had a big life full of love and that is some comfort but I am afraid we will never know another like him.

bikerunski your post made me smile, I hope you told them every day that they were the bcitw like we did.

handsoff Thank you that is some comfort. He had HCM. Diagnosed 2weeks a go and they drained the fluid and put him on meds and he perked up for a time but went rapidly downhill again on Friday, coughing and couldn’t breathe and I couldn’t let him suffer.

Have you got a photo, OP?

You know it’s compulsory on the Litter Tray, even for sad posts Flowers

HandsOffMyRights · 12/07/2020 10:08

Caitlin I'm so sorry to hear that. You thought of him and did the kindest thing in not letting him suffer. What a lucky boy to have you and vice versa.

Want2beme · 12/07/2020 11:03

So sorry to hear your very sad newsFlowers What a lovely character. It's just awful when they leave us. You might feel ready to have another moggie in your life, when the time's right. In the meantime, grieve for your little puss. You were blessed Smile

caitlinohara · 12/07/2020 12:01

I will never stop missing him. I’m so glad we had him though.

Look at those big back feet! 😻 What a handsome chap. I’m so sorry OP. I know the pain all too well I’m afraid. My condolences to you and your family.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 12/07/2020 12:11

Sending love xx I came on this boaed because my gorgeous boy was PTS this morning xx

It's very hard OP, I'm so sorry x

BigcatLittlecat · 12/07/2020 12:12

Oh what a gorgeous boy! And what a character he was, I love him going into classroom! I'm a teacher and that would be the best day of my career if that happened!
It's so hard when you lose a much loved pet! They are in your heart! Everyone is different but we usually get a new pet very quickly! Not to replace them but to help fill the home again! Take care of yourself!

Onceuponatimethen · 12/07/2020 12:17

Aah op what a gorgeous gorgeous boy. You can really see from your photos that he had a very special personality.

I’m so sorry you lost him but it looks like you made him very happy

islandislandisland · 12/07/2020 12:21

So sorry Flowers it will get better but it hurts so much especially when they're young and you feel robbed of the time they should have had. For us getting another cat did really help and we adore her too but in different ways. Give it time and I'm sure you'll be able to form another special bond with another special cat even if it's the last thing on your mind now.

Mustbetimeforachange · 12/07/2020 12:25

When we lost our first beloved cat I couldn't face getting another one but we found a that there was a cat shaped hole in our lives. That has been filled for the last 13 years by the best cat in the world! I often think when he goes I couldn't get another, but we shall see...

Vinorosso74 · 12/07/2020 12:39

Aw gorgeous boy. So sorry for your loss. It is heartbreaking losing a much loved pet and yes they leave a big hole.
We had 2 months between losing our lovely calm old girl and adopting a young hooligan (he was approx 9 months old) which helped fill the cat shaped hole. He is
a very different character but we all love him despite his naughtiness!

Oldraver · 12/07/2020 12:41

So sorry for your black and white boy Caitlin, it's hard PTS but even more so when they're young

Albaba · 12/07/2020 12:52

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your lovely cat and at such a young age too.

I have been there too. My boy took a short illness last year and was pts. He was my child before I had children and me and him had a real bond and connection with each other. It left a huge hole when he died and I was a teary mess. I still think of him and remember him fondly now. I was cat less for over a year before I felt ready to get a new cat. I felt the same feelings too. The new cat is not going to be X and I wont love her like I loved X. She has been with us for a month now and she is not X she is her own personality. Still settling in but great to have a cat in our home again. I hope you find happiness again too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2020 13:09

He looks a proper character by his eyes. 4 is no age to lose a cat.

Sockbogies · 12/07/2020 13:19

So sorry to hear this. Cat leave little paw prints on our hearts x

Sunnydayshereatlast · 12/07/2020 13:22

He does look like a real extra ds op! Brothers indeed!
