Kitten poo

Ive had her 4 days now. She's nearly 9 weeks and due at the vets Wednesday for her first jabs.

She's peeing well, eating well (wet only), won't eat dry currently. Feeding her Felix kitten as that's what I was told she was on when I first when to see her and put deposit down.

Then when I picked her up I was told she was being fed raw mince.

I just have been feeding her the Felix since I got her but her poo is quite runny. She's not going every 5 minutes but maybe 3 times a day. A couple of times the poo has started coming just before she's got in the tray. She doesn't seem uncomfortable in her stomach or anything. Seems absolutely perfect otherwise.

Obviously I'll speak to the vet Wednesday but just wondering if any advice in the mean time please?

Its likely she is just getting used to the new food. If she has been fed raw then it is a big adjustment from that to packaged kitten food which is full of additives. Its really important that you keep checking that she isn't dehydrated. If you are concerned perhaps ring the vet for advice.

felix isn't a great food but then mince isn't a complete food either. Check the felix for grains as some cats can't tolerate them.

Was it just raw mince with no additives?

I’d call a vet tbh, kittens can go downhill extremely quickly from dehydration caused by diarrhoea. Better to be safe than sorry with a tiny kitten.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think there are grains? Have attached photo? It says it's a complete food so are you able to advise why it's not great please? Do you have any recommendations?
Also I think ive seen some negatives around Purina on other threads? Can anyone advise why this is please?

Felix is a highly processed food. As its complete it will be fortified and will give your kitten everything it needs to be healthy. But, its akin to a human living off tinned food and taking supplements. There are fresh cat foods out there but they are expensive. Foods like Felix are baulked out with grains to fill the cat up. Some cats can be intolerant to these grains. Does the kitten have water? If a kitten is drinking water it is likely to be dehydrated already. Id give the vet a call in the morning and ask their opinion.

Felix kitten doesn't seem to have grains. It doesn't have a high proportion of named meat - contains meat and animal derivatives with 4% named meat. Has added sugar. Its not the worst food I've seen

when one of mine had a dodgy tummy the vet gave me pro kolin paste which helped

My two have been on felix all their lives (they are now 10!). One did have an upset tummy to begin with but he also had kitten worms which had to be treated by medicine from the vet and nothing I could buy over the counter. As long as your furry ones are drinking and weeing then I'd say they will be fine until your vets appointment Wednesday. Obviously if you think they're going downhill ask if you can take them sooner x

Yes she's got water but I've only seen her drink out of it once. She's doing plenty of wee in the litter tray and she's not constantly pooing. Will see how she goes overnight. Thank you

Also to say within the runny poo there is also a normal type of poo as well so it's a kinda a bit of both!

One of my kittens and the same problem and I game them James Wellbeloved kitten food pouches and Applaws dry kitten food (after much Googling) and it seemed to do the trick. They're now on Felix fine flakes. I know it's not the finest cat food out there, but they really like it and my last two cats lived to 18 and 19 years old on it.

I once had a cat who had an intolerance to soya. Caused runny poo but she otherwise appeared fine. I switched her to rice with chicken or fish with a few random other things in. But this was on vets advice. I wouldn’t change anything for now until you’ve spoken to the vet.

I had some issues with a kitten last year. Different issues but also digestion related and the vet strongly recommended royal canin veterinary diet. It’s expensive but goes a long way.

How is she OP? (And where are the pictures!)

Mine won't eat anything except Felix They've never had any health issues from it and are all healthy weights. I try and and give them better quality kibble to "make up" for it though!

Up until yesterday she still had runny poo! Went to the vets as planned but they have given some probiotics for the belly and some royal Canin gut pouches. Touch wood she's not being going as frequently so I'm hoping that's doing the job.
Hopefully will be able to get vaccines next week if she is well enough.
She won't touch the dry still, even tried mixing it in with water.
The vet said I could start introducing Felix again once she's better but I'm thinking of trying something different, not sure what yet.

Her teeth will be too small for kibble, you need to soften it which negates the whole point of kibble.

One of mine ate dry food from the start without softening. The other would only eat wet food.

My kitten has go cat kitten dry food which is tiddly so able to eat, mixed with pouches (also felix kitten for now)
Re Water we got one of those catit water fountains for him as the vet said to try running water if he didn't like drinking from a bowl and he loves it, has been drinking a lot more since we got it and his poops are now more solid than when he arrived.

Try Wainwright’s kitten food. It’s much better quality, it’s not cheap but not extortionate either, especially if you get the larger boxes from Pets at Home.

Plenty of water out for her as well as it’s so hot

Get her on to a good quality dry food like Harringtons, plus gently poached fresh chicken, which i feed twice a day and she goes to the dry as and when she wants. Keep fresh water on hand always

Our cats were raised on mince (and occasional tins, and bonemeal in the mince).

We mixed feed them now (a year old - 2 share 1 tin, and the rest of the meals mince with bonemeal - so about 50/50 tin/raw by weight), but if we run out of mince and they have only tinned for a day , the girl especially has runny poos.

Ours love the pate style ones, and meat in jelly (mashed, they don't like the chunks) rather than gravy, and they're not fond of fish. They like crunchy treats, but aren't interested in dry food. Fresh chicken (cooked) goes down very quickly too.

Go Cat is a terrible cat food - first ingredient is cereals which cats cannot digest well. Ideally there should be a high meat content and no cereals

Thank you for the suggestion for wainwright's. I've spent all morning looking in the shops and online trying to work what's the best without breaking the bank!

I will carry on with the royal Canin til next week and then try this I think.

Her poos are near on perfect now so I'm so pleased!
