Has Felix changed it’s recipe?

Or is my cat just being a bellend?

He will only eat Felix - the mixed one in jelly. All other cat food won’t even be sniffed, he’ll meowed at and walk back to the cat food cupboard and cry until something more satisfactory is put out for him.

I normally only buy the small boxes as I can’t carry much back from the shop but just bought a massive box off Amazon and he won’t touch it. As far as I can tell it’s the same as the small boxes - same mixed meats in jelly but I can’t compare ingredients as I don’t have an old box.

For three days now he’s only eaten his biscuits and then spends the rest of the time meowing at the cupboard. Do I give in and buy him a smaller box of exactly the same thing? Or will he eventually decide to start eating it?

I see three possibilities.

I hope they haven't changed the receipe - haven't noticed an issue here but you never know.

Is it possible that your bulk box from Amazon was produced in a different country with concomitant receipe differences?

I'm afraid the most likely option is that your cat has spotted that you have bought a shed load of food for him so is indeed now being a cat bellend.

dementedpixie · 04/06/2020 09:16

Different countries may have different permitted ingredients. It may not taste the same

Mitzdob · 04/06/2020 11:31

I know they changed the sizes of the big boxes, so they've possibly changed the recipe also. Probably trying to make it cheaper.

Hope your puss cat decides to eat soon!

vanillandhoney · 04/06/2020 12:51

The stuff on Amazon isn't necessarily the same as what's in the shops - the big bulk boxes especially.

We feed Felix here too as ours are fussy buggers and they're all eating it fine. We bought and opened new boxes yesterday.

UncleShady · 04/06/2020 13:04

We usually get the massive boxes from Amazon and ours have no issue with swapping between the pouches from there and ones from a smaller box from Tesco. And they are fussy buggers who only eat Felix Better than it looks ocean feasts in jelly and even then not the cod ones.

It's more likely that your cat is being an arse.

ClassicCola · 04/06/2020 13:08

He's being a bellend. I've long since given up bulk buying cat food.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/06/2020 21:08

He might just be bored. I’d keep it and try another brand.

FlopsyDoodle · 05/06/2020 07:47

I went to the shop yesterday afternoon and bought my usual box of Felix which he’s eating. I’m 99% sure they’re the same as the ones in the big box - exactly same packaging and look the same once in the bowl. I’m going to sneakily move some from the big box to the smaller and see if he notices.

fluffycloudland we’ve tried so many different foods and the only one he’ll eat is one particular type of Felix. Apparently the own brand Tesco stuff is exactly the same, just in a different packet but he won’t touch it. He just enjoys being a pain in the arse, I think.

You can donate it to a cat rescue, sometimes pets at home or supermarkets have a drop off bin.

Floofsquidge · 05/06/2020 16:16

It is different. My cat has the senior stuff and there is a difference in the colour and texture between the small boxes and the bulk boxes. She still eats it though, so yes sorry your cat is mildly an arse, or has a very sensitive and refined palate!

EachandEveryone · 05/06/2020 18:45

Yes it is different if you get it from Zooplus as well. I cant tell but they certainly can. The strays outside have been well fed this week. The small boxes are dear as well. No-one seems to have them on offer anymore.

runningon · 06/06/2020 11:29

I wouldn't buy that sort of thing from amazon, there's a good chance it's counterfeit.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2020 12:33

Costco do the large boxes (40 pouches) and these appear to be the same as the small UK boxes (at least my cats seem to think so).

HuggedTheRedwoods · 06/06/2020 23:40

Its a hard one, as we all know they can be a complete pita when they want to be but I do also think we have to give them the benefit of the doubt too sometimes. Goodness knows what goes into this stuff half the time so if something is off with any ingredient we wouldn't know but it could taste rancid to them.

If he's stuck to biscuits to days I'd be inclined to believe him something isn't right. Or maybe my furs have just trained me well!

QueenH · 06/06/2020 23:48

I mine only eat Felix but whenever I’ve bought from amazon or Zooplus, they won’t touch it. I think it’s a different recipe when I bulk buy online!

KitFizz · 05/11/2020 02:00

My Kitty is about 13 years old, in general good health, never been a fussy eater. He ate Felix adult for years (mix of standard pouches and As good as it looks) and been on senior version since mature years :-) I've always bought from the supermarkets, and he was happily eating all varieties, then he suddenly wasn't as keen and eager to eat it anymore, spending ages licking the food, leaving some, then returning to finish later on (he has generally always been a dish clearer!) He seemed his usual self and eating biscuits. The change was like from finishing one box to starting the next, so I'm convinced something has changed in all Felix varieties, whether that being in texture and/or taste. He had some Whiskas pouches, which seems to smell much stronger than I remember. Started researching more natural wet foods, and thought would give Webbox a try - he had already been on their dry food. The senior version is wheat free and good for sensitive cats, and all varieties contain Taurine, which I can't find listed in Felix. Webbox is affordable too, comparable to Felix AGAIL. Hoping he continues to enjoy Webbox, as it gets costly trying out different foods! Have given loads to friend's cats, so hope they eat it!!!

Bargebill19 · 05/11/2020 18:31

Wish I hadn’t clicked on this as I’ve just started buying in bulk from amazon as nowhere had any felix in bulk this week 😪

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/11/2020 18:37

DCat is off his Felix AGAIL. I thought he was being a knob. So I’ve got him some bloody expensive Gourmet Perle stuff. He is still being a knob, but is eating the expensive stuff occasionally.

louisejane · 06/12/2020 17:53

I purchase the big packs of Felix Chunks in Jelly from Pets at Home, my cats have been eating it for 7 years but now neither of them will touch the tuna flavour which used to be their favourite. The jelly in the tuna is definitely a different consistency from usual.

EachandEveryone · 07/12/2020 14:36

Mine wont touch the red beef ones at all. I wish it came up on offer more as it doesnt last long. Mine like the country vegetable one 🤔

TottiePlantagenet · 07/12/2020 14:43

Bloody hell, I thought it was only my cat being awkward! Bought 2 massive boxes of Felix AGAIL from Zooplus, Diva Cat had previously eaten Felix AGAIL bought from here, just not the massive box, cheaper option. She's constantly turning her nose up at it just eating the jelly and leaving the meat to dry up for me to bin I've got so many pouches to get through... Sad Should I just give up and donate these?

Can anyone recommend some good quality wet food? She's on Applaws dry food too.

sydneyshaw · 27/07/2021 12:10

I buy bulk from Amazon,Felix chunks in jelly.Only things I have noticed is change of sachet package and slightly smaller cuts...my two are still eating it as before.

TheNightWatch · 27/07/2021 13:44

No mine at interested in it such a waste of money.

icedcoffees · 27/07/2021 15:14

The stuff on Amazon and ZooPlus isn't the same as the stuff you can buy in the shops.

My cats are on Felix and I buy it from the shops and suck up the extra cost - I bulk buy when it's on offer to try and bring the cost down though.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/07/2021 17:51

My cats loved Felix kitten food, but I've recently switched them to the adult version and they seem less keen. I buy it from the supermarket and they will no longer touch the Beef or Salmon flavours at all. They'd rather starve!! 🙄
