Obligatory photo attached Grin

I don't post in the Litter Tray much as our resident cats (aged 5 and 4) have never caused us any problems really so I've had no real need to. But this is the first time we've had three cats and the kitten is SO cute that I just have to share a photo of him!

Older cats and dog were uneasy at first. 5yo male cat and kitten have played together this morning though!

This is Toby!

Ahhh Toby you're adorable 😍
Here is a photo of my black cat, he likes to use his back legs as a pillow 🤔

Cute!
Can you easily tell your adult black cats apart? We have 2 young cats with solid brown coats and I need to see their eyes to tell them apart Grin

Alicatz66 · 31/05/2020 18:43

Beautiful baby !! Smile

Hamsterian · 31/05/2020 18:46

Hello Toby, you are very gorgeous!

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2020 19:16

We had three white cats, all looked totally different to us. I can still picture them 30 years later.

idontsmokeivape · 31/05/2020 19:29

Hello, Toby! Please let us know how this beautiful green-eyed boy settles in and how his personality reveals itself. I love reading about cat quirks.

JanetWeb2812 · 31/05/2020 19:43

What a handsome boy.

So far he's very brave and bold! He's made friends with our normally extremely grumpy male cat, explored the entire downstairs and fallen asleep on the dog Grin

oh he's lovely! and how nice he's fitting in so quickly - bet grumpy male cat will become more kitten-like himself with his new playmate.

idontsmokeivape · 01/06/2020 17:40

Aw, he's a charmer! Maybe he will give grumpy a new outlook on life. Smile

vanillandhoney · 01/06/2020 17:43

Well, day 2 and him and grumpy cat are getting on very well! They've had a nap together, played chase and shared a sunbeam Grin

so cute!!! I love the name Toby as well 😍😍

OP can i ask how you went about introducing them? Everything I read talks about keeping them apart for weeks and exchanging scent etc but short of shutting our current cat out for hours at a time or leaving a potential new kitten alone for vast chunks of the day, I don't see how it can be done! (Obviously I'm not going to do either of those things!)

vanillandhoney · 01/06/2020 18:39

All three of our cats are unrelated and I've never followed any of the advice to be honest Confused

We brought Toby home on Friday - they ignored him for few hours, came over for a sniff and there was some hissing/growling but nothing more. We fed our cats as usual and fed Toby separately in the bathroom - we also left him there overnight just in case he had any accidents but he was fine.

The next morning there was some growling but actually it was between the two older cats and not aimed at Toby! So we fed them separately for breakfast. But I have to say, after that they both came to sniff Toby and since then it's been okay really.

Our girl cat has hissed at him a couple of times but otherwise it's been fine. They've all been in the same room together for the last two days with no real issues. I left them for an hour this morning to walk the dog and they were all together and they were fine when I got back :)

Probably totally not what you're supposed to do, but it worked for us! It also worked when we introduced the now 5yo to the 4yo - we got him when she was two and he was three - a couple of days of hissing but no fighting or anything - they're best friends now.

@vanillandhoney thank you!! All cats I had with my parents we always just introduced a new kitten to them pretty much straight away but reading all the advice has made me so nervous!

I'm glad it's gone well for your cats, they're so gorgeous - our boy is a black cat as well and we'd so love another little black one 😍 x
