Anyone else’s cat do this?

My cat has started bringing home some very unusual ‘presents’; in the last three days we have had a big ball of moss, some twigs, leaves and an old receipt. He always comes through the cat flap meowing very loudly with them and brings them up to our pillow around 4-5am! Obviously moss is preferable to a dead (or live) mouse but is this usually behaviour or is my cat just a terrible hunter?

As a dc our little black dcat brought worms in and sang loudly to them...

Both my DSis's cats do this.
It was apples when they were falling from trees last year. And always lots of twigs.

He comes home, meowing like a banshee with a ridiculous-sized, leafy branch hanging from his mouth. He is an amazing mouser though.
He brought home a bird yesterday which I was really unhappy about.

I say branch, but really it's a twig... but like, the biggest twig you can find. I wonder what they think they're delivering? A carcass of some sort?

Yep I've had a pencil, a toy mouse that wasn't ours, a bit of old baguette and most bizarrely a rabbit harness (minus the rabbit fortunately). I also get live birds, mice and butterflies though so I'm assuming they're for her and the inanimate objects are perhaps things she thinks I might need/like?

When one of mine used to go out onto the verandah roof, she would bring in pieces of slate, lead, & nails. She can't go out there anymore as my other female cat goes up there and beats her up, poor sausage.

I have actually kept her little haul, and here she is.

My boy cat brought me a gardening glove the other day.

Mine brought a lamb bone home the other day. I found out she had stole it from the neighbours dog

My friends cat brings all her toys to her slave. She used to line them up outside his bedroom door in the morning.

Our previous cat brought in so many cat toys that weren't ours. I always used to wonder at the other poor bereft owner of said toys.

The best thing we ever had though was a very grumpy looking toad. It made a very satisfying flip flap noise on the wooden floor. Arthur was so pleased with himself.

Ours has brought some odd things back too. A manky bit of banana and a rolled up lump of foil were the first two items. The other week he brought a length of flexible plastic/foam pipe which was covered in soil as if he had dug it up. The following week was his first bird (he's 3 and we've had him over 2 years) which he brought in and ran around with in his mouth until I could catch him.

Ok it’s not just my cat then! I wouldn’t mind, but his insistence on waking us up at stupid o’clock to admire each item is wearing thin

Mine once dragged a quarter of a pepperoni pizza through the cat flap!

Our cat flap goes into the cellar so he actually has to drag the stuff up three flights of stairs to bring it to us

Mine has never brought me a gift in all of his 11 years - the ungrateful bugger!

Although after reading some of these, I'm starting think that's probably a gift in itself. :o

Can you lock his flap overnight? It’s a very dangerous time to be out because it’s dark. Ours was run over in the dark, we think around 7pm.

These new electric cars only make tyre noise, they don’t hear them coming.

Mine runs off with my pants and hid my daughters bra when she was home 🙄

His brother likes watching the neighbours he called his other brother over last night because the neighbours were at the front of the house so they sat there watching them like this

Our last cat used to spend the night opening the pantry door and then moving items of clothing from the washing basket, one piece at a time into the back of the pantry. He would then nose the door closed and go to bed in his basket. Why??

The important question is Why the hell not? 😺

Bakerstreet8 We close our kitchen door at night ! Absolutely no access to the main house for Arthur. Too risky.

Don't complain. I've had rats, mice, birds, a hamster (dead_I thought I was tripping when I saw it), a massive fuck off live Magpie (I thought I was tripping when I saw it), a rare looking shrew thing, frogs, toads and a live fledgling swift (the cat owes me £30 for the donation to the wildlife centre and miles of petrol money - the swift recovered and flew free).
I have to euthanise creatures that he hadn't finished off properly as well.

Troy used to bring the plastic that holds 4packs of lager together. It wasn't a gift for me but a plaything for him.

Haribo is still under house arrest after going missing over 2 weeks ago and as he's only 11 months old so hasn't had a chance to bring in "gifts".

Mines actually too lazy now and too fat to bring me stuff now, but in his early life he brought me in random order

Live Toad or frog unsure
Huge long worm alive but slightly battered
Half a dead ish plant
A golf ball size ball
Big leaves/small leaves
Balled up tissue
His own collar several times
Baby bel cheese thingy
And that's all I remember but there were many.
