Anyone else’s cat do this?

My cat has started bringing home some very unusual ‘presents’; in the last three days we have had a big ball of moss, some twigs, leaves and an old receipt. He always comes through the cat flap meowing very loudly with them and brings them up to our pillow around 4-5am! Obviously moss is preferable to a dead (or live) mouse but is this usually behaviour or is my cat just a terrible hunter?

One of mine did this when he first started to be allowed outside, I would get a random daily assortment of leaves and bits. I found it very sweet.

Unfortunately now he's a year old, he's graduated to mostly bringing in skinks (little lizardy things) and the occasional rat or bird

Ours has just brought back a piece of chicken from someone else's garden which we wrestled off him before he ate it. He is now grounded cue much scratching at door and meowing.
