Worried about cat food

dingit · 20/03/2020 16:02

I know there's plenty else to worry about, but there was no cat food in Tesco this morning, I figured that we can eat anything, but the cat can't. I've just ordered a box from Amazon.
My girl is 13.5 the thought of her starving is just too much Sad

My Zooplus order just arrived. They said there may be delays with delivery but it only took an extra day. They were out of one flavour of the food but he now has enough.

thecatneuterer · 20/03/2020 16:33

This is the thing that really terrifies me too. I can cope with not much/not nice food for me - but I can't cope with hungry cats.

Scruffyoak · 20/03/2020 16:33

I ordered from amazon.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 20/03/2020 16:35

I’m a bit concerned because our cat has a lot of allergies and is on a really restricted, specific diet. The food seems to be out of stock everywhere, so I really hope its back in soon or she will either starve or be very ill.

OhMy05 · 20/03/2020 16:35

Tesco (and other supermarkets) will stock up and it’ll be available again.
There’s still per food in smaller shops.

Vinorosso74 · 20/03/2020 16:43

For special diets vets may have some in stock and if not may be able to order it in for you from their supplier. Ok it might be more expensive but better than a hungry cat!

viccat · 20/03/2020 17:03

We have enough food for now but I had to get a bit from different places as some of the foods I usually buy were out of stock. Amazon has a good variety still available (although they are expensive). I'm also worried about this though, as others say, I can eat anything but the cats can't!

My Pets at Home order of litter finally arrived today a week late too - such a relief.

Purpleknickers · 20/03/2020 17:43

My Tesco had no Felix but I popped into M & S and they had lots of it so I got 2 boxes, I don’t mind eating barely anything but I cannot see my cats starve

EachandEveryone · 20/03/2020 20:00

My corner shops had Felix in. Sainsburys had plenty of pet food in. Its a big branch. Aldi had loads too. Im more worried about litter. I bought Wilkos ultra clumping and its terrible. It does the job but it stinks. Not abot like the corn type. The cats love it though and they are using it more than ever. Its only going to last afew days.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/03/2020 21:11

TCN - buy what you can where you can as you can. Your kitties deserve it.

FamilyOfAliens · 20/03/2020 21:14

Do you have an independent pet supplies shop?

We have one and they deliver for free - I get hay, woodchip and guinea pig pellets, plus Hill’s dry food for my cat. It’s a bit more expensive than the supermarket but having it delivered means I can buy the hay in bulk every six weeks or so.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/03/2020 21:43

Cat litter seems in very short supply too in supermarkets round us. - None at all in Sainsbury today.

Fishcakey · 20/03/2020 22:18

Tinned Sardines, mackerel, tuna are all good alternatives. My cat will happily scoff a bowl of grated cheese.

Madcats · 20/03/2020 22:22

I am in the unplanned 'fortunate' position that my teen kittens are getting a bit 'sniffy' about the food I was advised to feed them, so I have been introducing about 5 or 6 different foods carefully in the past couple of months.

I did notice a lot of things out of stock when I did my usual Zooplus order. I have dog poo bags and plenty of newspaper if it come to the worst.

Frankiecandle · 20/03/2020 22:24

Loads of cat meat in B and M.

TrainspottingWelsh · 20/03/2020 23:15

Except for the big supermarkets, every corner and budget shop I've been in has had plenty. One of mine is a picky eater to start with and difficult to keep weight on. So far there's plenty of the stuff she'll eat around. If we end up with random brand cat food down the road I'll feed it dp and she can have his meat. The old boy isn't fussy about meat but demands kitten complete dry is mixed in, because we're rural and always have stores of everything I usually buy a few boxes at a time anyway and so far it's not been a problem to replenish as I go along. Even though it's only one brand he has approved. The other isn't fussy and could hunt her own if it got really tough.

I might have to go all fantastic mr fox and start raiding lots of farms. Although if dp keeps unreasonably insisting on sitting in his desk chair and using a cat free keyboard I may come home to find the cats have arranged their own fresh meat stores.

GiantKitten · 20/03/2020 23:48

On the back of this I just checked zooplus & they're right out of bog standard Felix 40s Shock
Due back in on 27th.
Have requested email notification.
(I honestly doubt my cats would eat anything else & the thought of trailing round all the supermarkets picking up 12 here & 12 there makes me quail)

YesItsMeIDontCare · 20/03/2020 23:55

I admit I panic bought on behalf of my chap. Us humans can scrape the bottom of the freezer but Leroy will only eat Felix As Good As It Looks Doubly Delicious and Royal Canin biscuits 🙄.

Got some Felix from Morrisons and ordered some from Pets@Home, Royal Canin from Vetsend, and litter from Amazon.

As others have said my cat will not go without!

EachandEveryone · 21/03/2020 12:11

I’m in big Sainsbury’s now and there’s no shortage of cat food. Absolutely no litter and there was none on Zooplus except clumping crystals which I had to buy (they better not get used to them)

EachandEveryone · 21/03/2020 12:23

Poundland has boxes of food in as well my girls favourite savoury cakes for £3 so I’m glad I went in

Oldraver · 21/03/2020 12:31

Ernie is on diet food from the vets so we did get an extra bag, though more as OH was worried if supply lines dry up.

Vet says they have quite a few. Ern could probably last longer than we could

emilybrontescorsett · 21/03/2020 12:36

I couldn't get the usual one has to buy what was there.
I can go without food but am worried about not being able to buy cat food.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/03/2020 12:37

Ernie! Any hope of a photo?

SoupDragon · 21/03/2020 12:40

I ordered the SoupCats' usual dry food from Amazon (and at the usual price too!) for next day delivery. I'm fairly sure they will be fine.

Terralee · 21/03/2020 12:40

Pets at home had stocked up lots of food for a no deal Brexit so they should have plenty of supplies
