Worried about cat food

I know there's plenty else to worry about, but there was no cat food in Tesco this morning, I figured that we can eat anything, but the cat can't. I've just ordered a box from Amazon.
My girl is 13.5 the thought of her starving is just too much Sad

I will admit to buying a bag for my kittie last week. She's on a vet plan diet due to allergies, so not something i can pick up from supermarkets or even pet shops, it has to be ordered in. A bag lasts a month, and it was half full so i got 1 more bag. Not really stockpiling, but it is buying slightly further ahead than normal. Currently means there's more cat food than human food in the house.

I bought two small boxes ( usually get the 40) but there were very limited choices .
One was an 11+ (it was either Kitten or 11+ ) and their usual 1+

I'm guessing the Senior food is finer texture ? Maybe different levels of nutrients ?
It's an emergency purchase , I can put it alongside biscuits maybe?

Though our male is in full Hunter/Gatherer Mode . He wrestled a slice of bread onto the steps . Mouldy brown bread, outsider slice with ketchup on it .
He was so bloody pleased with himself too !

I was all "Dexter , put that down you're Grain Free " Shock

If anyone gets desperate, I'm sure their cat would eat chicken if you can get some. Some might go for a little tinned fish, cooked white fish or other meat.

Worth looking in smaller shops, Co-ops. Also, I put an order into Zooplus last Saturday. It arrived Wednesday.

I usually have a good supply under the stairs, but have been picking up an extra couple of boxes each week on the run up to this. The thought of two hungry or telling them they can't have their usual, is not an option.

VadenuRewetje · 22/03/2020 05:15

the shortages in shops are only caused by the supply chain not being able to keep up with panic buyers, hoarders and resale profiteers mostly. there is plenty of food. don't try to buy from the supermarkets - use an online-only petstore or ring round your local vets to see what they stock. we get all our pet food from our vets normally anyway. they do litter too, and they deliver locally, and have had no supply chain problems.

I have several cats and tried them on a cheaper cat food recently.

They loved it.

Bought 12 days worth of it and now they are taking one sniff and walking away

Fortunately Dp bought in a weeks worth of Whiskas when he saw it in Sainsbury’s when he last went in there (hasn’t been out for a week)
They now seem to tolerate the cheaper food if they don’t have it 2 meals running

Down to a weeks worth of cat litter. It was difficult enough to get before this.
Now if supermarkets had it in it is all gone

Mine bloody well wouldn't 😡.

I could only get Sheba instead of whiskas yesterday- hope my 2 don't think this will be an everyday occurrence!!

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 22/03/2020 08:01

DTwatCats are fine. I ordered their quarterly box from lily's kitchen to arrive this week.

And 40l of turd gravel/litter from amazon.

GiantKitten · 22/03/2020 16:24

zooplus has Felix 40s in atm!

Ahwig · 22/03/2020 18:47

I have twin kittens. 6 months old. Every supermarket I went in had a fair amount of normal cat food but not kitten. I have asked everyone I know that if they see some buy me a box. I have enough for about 8 days so am hoping there will be more available by the end of this week.

thecatneuterer · 22/03/2020 19:28

@Ahwig It's absolutely fine to give cat food to six month old kittens. In fact it's fine to give normal cat food to two month old kittens. There isn't much difference - it's mainly the size of the chunks.

chocolatespiders · 23/03/2020 06:32

Ahwig I have a 6 month old kitten and he has adult cat food. It was easy to make the transition mainly due to the fact that we also have mummy cat and he used to pinch her food. They will be just fine.

chocolatespiders · 23/03/2020 06:35

I got cat litter in asda yesterday for those struggling to find it.

bellinisurge · 23/03/2020 06:57

Zooplus.
I also included my overlord in my general prepping plans over the last year. Concerned about a No Deal Brexit made me get extra bit by bit over the year.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/03/2020 07:00

If the cat food shortage continues it’ll be interesting to see how long the fussy ones hold out for before eating what they’re given. Dh came back with the wrong flavour of Iams and I thought “they won’t like that”. Grin

Madcats · 24/03/2020 16:21

Both my cats like those dehydrated meat and fish treats. If they have gone off a brand, I crumble one or two pieces over the food and then lure them with a dried one each.

For siamese, they really are quite thick.

My Zooplus order from last Tuesday arrived today. I only had a couple of days' litter left.

ClientQueen · 24/03/2020 16:29

Mine will eat anything now provided I season it with salmon oil Hmm if I don't he does an injured face and looks mournfully into is bowl
Except for beef. Anything with more than 0.00001% of beef and he throws up Confused

dingit · 24/03/2020 19:34

I did the same, although I didn't get anything extra for me!
