Sev is dead

DD came into my room an hour ago to have sth printed. Tomorrow is her first written exam at uni. She came in and said: Oh look, Sev's gone to sleep next to his box! Then she did what we all do: she climbed a chair to reach up to him on his shelf to say hello - and he was'nt breathing.
He got a clean bill of health from the vet a fortnight ago. He peed and pooed normal. He had a good appetite. This morning he woke me up at 6 for food and cuddles. There's nothing poisonous lying about and he is was an indoor cat.
He used to cuddle under her blanket supervising her revision.
Now DD is in her room crying, DS hides behind his PC and I am sitting here...

Oh I’m so sorry. Sweet little fellow. What a terrible shock.Flowers

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/02/2020 20:55

I’m so sorry. What a dreadful shock.
Take some comfort that he was at home and it was quick.
When my girl sleeps on the bed I find myself waking up all the time to check her breathing. Sometimes I wake her up just to check she’s ok.

So sorry OP Sad

What a shock.

SingingMyOwnSpecialSong · 17/02/2020 21:00

I am so sorry for your loss. It is always awful no matter how they die. A friend lost a young cat very suddenly to a congenital heart defect that had not been previously detected, perhaps Sev had something similar.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/02/2020 21:01

Oh fuck, I’m so sorry.

I lost mine suddenly and it’s just the worst feeling. Have you got anyone there to help you?.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2020 21:24

Thank you all for your kind words.
He had a happy little life, he came from a rescue litter and was a very gentle creature. DD was his favourite, she is back at her desk now and has taken her 19 year old teddy with her.
Luckily DH is here and - having no close relationship with Sev - has taken him down from the shelf and helped me wrap him up.
Tomorrow I'll have to find out what to do with him.

We buried ours but it’s really hard walking past him to the bins. Your vet will have a company they use for cremation.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2020 21:36

Thank you - I didn't think of the vet. I have no garden, there is a special cemetary for animals. I'll try the vet first.

I am so sorry op, it's so so sad when we lose a pet, heartbreaking.

Just think you gave him the best life and he knew he was loved, he went very quick so you know he didn't suffer, as you say he was normal that morning, woke you up for food and cuddles.
It's just so raw at the moment!
Take care of yourself op sending you lots of hugs 💐💐

TheLongRider · 17/02/2020 21:45

I'm very sorry for your loss. It's a terrible wrench when it happens like that.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2020 21:50

Again thank you.
I am mostly worried for my DD. The one with ADHD, who was told she wouldn't amount to much by her teachers when she was eight, and she worked so hard and now she 's facing her exams with no cat to come home to. (I know there's worse if you look at the world.)

So very sorry. It's horrible. But he was in his own home with his humans with him. And I'm sure you gave him a wonderful life.

wildcherries · 17/02/2020 21:56

What a shock, I'm so sorry

notanurse2017 · 17/02/2020 22:06

I am so sorry. Sev was beautiful.

Vinorosso74 · 17/02/2020 22:14

I'm so sorry. It's heartbreaking when they go but with no warning like that is an awful shock. Very sad.
As for the practicalities your vet can deal with that and give you some options. We have Vinocat's ashes in a wooden sleeping cat.

MrsMozartMkII · 17/02/2020 22:18

I'm sorry.

A beautiful lad.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/02/2020 22:19

There’s worse in the world but this is the worst thing in your world.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2020 22:24

I've found a photo of him as a kitten the day he joined us in November 2015.

So very sorry. Losing a much loved pet is heartbreaking. FlowersFlowersFlowers

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/02/2020 22:27

He looks so small!. If you want paw print mementoes you can use ink pats to take prints.

autumnboys · 17/02/2020 22:30

I’m so very sorry. Lots of love to you all. It’s so hard to say goodbye, especially suddenly. Flowers

SanFranBear · 17/02/2020 22:30

So very sorry for your loss - what a handsome boy Flowers

JKScot4 · 17/02/2020 22:33

When we lost one of our dogs we had her cremated individually and had her ashes returned to us, I’m sure your vet can help and possible offer an opinion on what happened.
Rest Easy Handsome Lad 🌈🐾

Fingermoose · 17/02/2020 22:40

Elieza · 17/02/2020 22:54
