Sev is dead

DD came into my room an hour ago to have sth printed. Tomorrow is her first written exam at uni. She came in and said: Oh look, Sev's gone to sleep next to his box! Then she did what we all do: she climbed a chair to reach up to him on his shelf to say hello - and he was'nt breathing.
He got a clean bill of health from the vet a fortnight ago. He peed and pooed normal. He had a good appetite. This morning he woke me up at 6 for food and cuddles. There's nothing poisonous lying about and he is was an indoor cat.
He used to cuddle under her blanket supervising her revision.
Now DD is in her room crying, DS hides behind his PC and I am sitting here...

Oh vet did the paw prints for us and we got them back in a lovely card with a packet of forget-me-nots for the garden. It helped somewhat. Sorry for your loss x

I’m so sorry. I started a thread a few days ago after my cat died, although he was in pain and had gone missing.

We are getting him cremated and will either bury the urn or use one of the wooden boxes that is also a photo frame. They take paw prints and have been lovely and sensitive.

Your cat sounds beautifully cared for and well-loved both when alive and at the time of their death. Your daughter will be sad but ok

What a handsome fellow. I'm so sorry for your loss. Thanks

Our 5 and a half year old cat had to be pts the Wednesday before Christmas last year. She was on medication for a fast heart beat but threw a clot that paralysed her back legs. Dd1 was with her when it happened. She had been playing with Dd in her room and her legs just went from under her. The vet gave her Heparin to see if the clot would break up but it didn't work. He said he sees about 10 or 11 cats with it each year and it's one of the worst things because there is rarely a good outcome. She had a great life though. Caught pigeons on our roof and gave us liitle surprises on the doormat! And sleeping on my younger daughters bed (warmest room in the house). I still expect to see her come rushing up to the door when I come home from work waiting to be fed😢. They do get under your skin OpFlowers

I remember the threads about Sev vs. Christmas Tree. He was an amazing kitty and I am so, so sorry for your loss. Flowers

slipperywhensparticus · 18/02/2020 09:15

Awww sweetheart Flowers

Toddlerteaplease · 18/02/2020 09:23

If you can take a good picture of his paw. You could have a keepsake made. I have a key ring with Fatty's paw print on. And her ashes are in a blue glass pig.

Kitsmummy · 18/02/2020 09:59

Awww thats v sad.

Astonishingly we also have a ginger cat called Sev . We got him from a rescue a few months ago and he's 12 years old...did you call him Sev as in short for Seville (oranges)? We did but I don't normally tell anyone that because we sound like pretentious wankers!

Want2beme · 18/02/2020 15:13

It's heartbreaking when they go. So sorry this has happened. He was a gorgeous boy Flowers

Hamsterian · 18/02/2020 18:22

What a shock, so sad. He was a beautiful kitty and seemed very very loved. Nothing takes away the pain. xxx

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/02/2020 19:06

Again thank you all for you kind words - DD has read them, too.
@kitsmummy
No, in full he was called Severus Shakespeare (yes, I know - a hint to Harry Potter and Macbeth - DC were reading both at the time).
I followed advise and called the vet - we have taken him there. His ashes will be scattered at our pet cemetary.
@Hollyhobbi
I'm sorry to hear about your cat. The vet said that sudden death from heart failiure happens to cats, too.

I will remain a lurker on this forum.
