Advice needed

My beautiful 12 year old cat is poorly. She is my partner’s technically but I’ve lived with her two years now and couldn’t love her more. On Monday night she was sick which was unusual for her, she was out of sorts afterwards but perked up again within an hour. Today she was sick again, all of her breakfast and lots of liquid. She’s off her food, lethargic and her tail keeps twitching. My partner is suggesting we give her the weekend to recover but I am really worried, she’s never been like this and I can see she is not feeling well at all. Do I go to the vets? What will they do? Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or other things I should be looking for? She’s such a happy greedy cat usually, I’m beside myself but haven’t had any pets prior to living with this cat for two years so really don’t know what to think

Definitely vets. They will give her a thorough check over and may need to do some further tests eg. bloods. When was cat last seen by a vet?

Vets tomorrow, you can’t leave them like that.

Vets ASAP. I'm not an expert but the symptoms are similar to those one of my cats had when his kidneys failed. He needed urgent treatment but pulled through.

Of course you need to take her to the vet ASAP. if she becomes seriously ill over the weekend and the normal vet is shut, you'll have to take her to the emergency vet which will cost a fortune.

Thank you, she had an annual check up exactly this time last year and all fine, beer healthy especially considering her age. Thank you so much for the advice will ensure she gets there tomorrow

I will, thank you all so much it’s been a huge comfort. I’ve never had a pet before and she has absolutely taken over my life I love her so much. I just wish I’d met her sooner

Quite often dh said ours didn’t need a vet but I’d go anyway & return with a course of antibiotics.

I think it's always better to be safe than sorry - cats can deteriorate so quickly if they're unwell, and they're good at hiding pain.

How is she?

They are super efficient at hiding illness so as soon as you even suspect something is off they need the vet. I hope she's ok OP.

Sorry for the delay, it’s been a pretty fraught weekend 😕

She had blood tests at the vets on Friday which were all thankfully clear, they admitted her Saturday to get some fluids into her intravenously as she still wasn’t eating or drinking.

She has been back with us for around 24 hours now and still refusing all food and drink. About two hours ago she brought up a volume of brownish liquid despite having not eaten or drank since Friday (and then only a small amount). Have spoken to our of hours vet who said we can have her readmitted or monitor her until she is due to have another appointment for a scan in the morning.

Have chosen to monitor her for now as don’t want to disrupt her or scare her any more than she has been but if she’s sick again we will get her readmitted.

I’m at an absolute loss as to what to do, she is as comfortable as she can be but obviously is scared and very poorly. I know we need to wait for the vets advice but has anyone experienced anything similar? Is there anything we should be asking for aside from a scan?

Also, really overwhelmed that people kept my post in their mind and have asked for updates, thank you all so much for your kindness and taking time out of your day to help me. It means so much

Just realised I forgot one of the cardinal rules of the litter tray too- here she is earlier this week when happier and healthier

Mine was like this and they gave him an injection to reduce nausea which got him eating again, I gave him boiled chicken breast in small portions.

One of the vets on here said rotisserie chicken hot off the counter is excellent for cats who are refusing food or there’s licky lix sachets.

Oh she’s a sweet looking little poppet, luckily tabbies usually have a little bit of weight to carry them through.

Thank you @Fluffycloudland77, I’ve tried boiled chicken and licky Lix but neither working. Thankfully she did have extra weight to give though it’s been awful seeing her loosing it. Pinning my hopes on tomorrow’s scan telling us something one way or the other. I miss her so much already, she’s usually such a cheeky little thing and seeing her so lethargic and poorly is killing me. Thank you for your kind words of support

It's a good sign that her bloods were clear. I hope the scan gets to the root of the problem. You could try giving her some cats milk - if she'll drink that will help get some calories in. I agree with the tip about warming food to make it more appetising.

Thank you, have tried cat milk too but not interested. I’ll try some warm boiled chicken again in an hour or so. She loves ALL food usually so it’s even more disconcerting seeing her refuse all of her favourites. Her sister is the same age and confused as to what’s happening, trying to keep them apart as the poorly one is getting nervous when she is around. Just wants to be left alone really
