Advice needed

My beautiful 12 year old cat is poorly. She is my partner’s technically but I’ve lived with her two years now and couldn’t love her more. On Monday night she was sick which was unusual for her, she was out of sorts afterwards but perked up again within an hour. Today she was sick again, all of her breakfast and lots of liquid. She’s off her food, lethargic and her tail keeps twitching. My partner is suggesting we give her the weekend to recover but I am really worried, she’s never been like this and I can see she is not feeling well at all. Do I go to the vets? What will they do? Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or other things I should be looking for? She’s such a happy greedy cat usually, I’m beside myself but haven’t had any pets prior to living with this cat for two years so really don’t know what to think

Tesco and pets at home sell organic dried catnip, you can sprinkle it over their food.

Just to update, scan was inconclusive and she’s had to have surgery today. Just got results back and they think it’s pancreatitis. We can bring her home later today and see how she gets on. Does anyone have any experience of pancreatitis in cats?

@ Fluffycloudland77 It seems to depend on lots of variables but it’s definitely better in cats than in humans. Waiting for a biopsy result which should hopefully shed a little more light on things. Really hope she can get past it and get back to her wonderful little self

Oh, dear, your poor kitty. I don't have any experience of pancreatitis in cats, I'm afraid. If no one else on this thread does, it might be worth starting a new thread with pancreatitis in the title - I know some vets post on here and also people with extensive experience of rescuing cats, who may have experience of this.

Only just seen this post. One of mine had pancreatitis. She was critically ill for a week. And came home with a feeding tube. I only fed her for a couple of days as I realised she wasn't feeding because she was full of formula. Against all the odds she made a full recovery. No idea how!

The only sign she was ill, was that she was in the same place when I got home from work as she'd been 12 hours earlier when I left. No vomiting or anything else. She refused lik e Lix so I knew it was serious.

Mine had pancreatitis.

He had vomiting and diarrhoea and a very tender tummy. He was given antisickness and pain injections at vet and admitted overnight for IV fluids. Luckily he recovered fairly quickly and didnt need surgery but it was scary.

He was a bit overweight (rescue old man cat) which can increase risk of pancreatitis, so when your lovely girl is doing better put her on a low fat diet as you said she had some weight to lose. Mine has Purina pro plan weight management which he loves, and he's lost half a kilo in 4 months (still a bit to go!)

I've known a lot of cats to have pancreatitis and recover (and sadly also a lot that don't recover). It's certainly not an inevitable death sentence.

Thank you all so much for your kind words, she’s had two scans, surgery and been sent home to recover. They’ve taken a biopsy and will get the results next week. She has been incredible, her surgery was on Tuesday and she’s got stronger every day.

She was back to her mischievous greedy self today trying to steal my breakfast. Giving her meals little and often as suggested by vet and she seems ravenous! I can’t believe the difference, it’s cost an awful lot to get her to this stage (lapsed insurance 🙄) but worth every penny.

Not out of the woods yet but just to have the past few happy days with her has been incredible.
