What makes your cat Quirky

Bit of Backstory....
I adopted my cat in 2017 from Cat's Protection when she was about a year old, She came to me completely terrified of any human interaction and didn't seem to know how to be stroked or picked up without it causing her panic Sad so the day after she moved in i made her a nest on top of the wardrobe with her things she came with for familiarity and left her to it thinking she'd come round eventually and come to me when she was ready....well... Fast forward to today and she is a different cat entirely !! She is currently asleep on my feet under the duvet cuddling my sock Hmm She enjoys taking showers with me once a month (as in she will sit at my feet under the water and wait to be shampooed!! loves it) and will only drink from a running tap or the toilet.... Envy and she has developed a voice and a sense she owns this place now as she walks around yowling to me when she wants something Grin which 9/10 she gets. This morning she knocked her brush off the side and rolled onto her belly as if to say "tummy rubs plzzz" I still can't believe this is the same cat i adopted back then and how far she has come from that scared kitty who hated people and didn't know how to do anything but hide to a cat who will run upto people as they walk in and greet them Confused I'm sure i have a dog not a cat some day's.
She's still a very independent little lady who hates been picked up and cuddles are entirely on her terms (most things around here are now on her terms) But she is the funniest little creature I've ever owned and I'd be lost without her Blush
Anyone else got a cat that doesn't behave entirely like a cat ?

He loves uncomfortabl awkward places and likes eating moths. Likes soup and mature heddar cheese. If its extra mature, mild or other type than mature cheddar doesnt eat it.
When i say hello he miaows back mellaw sounds like hello.

GinGeum · 31/10/2019 05:27

That's lovely! Our cat can't meow. He either opens his mouth and no sound at all comes out, or if he's really desperate to tell you something, there will be a really deep, croaky rumble. We adopted him when he was 10 so no idea if he never had a voice or not.
He also likes to sleep on a bed on the floor next to the back door. We regularly have dogs coming in and out of that door and you'd think he'd want to be high up! But no, he likes to sit down low and give them an evil glare as they walk in and they seem to know he is not for chasing. He doesn't even sit up, just lifts his head slightly to stare at them Grin

Also, the hungrier he is, the more loving he gets. First thing in the morning you can get a great back massage from him before he has his breakfast!

When I go for a shower or a bath, cheddar has her paws in the side of the bath yowling at me. I think she thinks I might drown. She's Avery vocal girl. And we have proper conversations.

chillichutneysarnie · 31/10/2019 09:30

My male cat lies on his back when he's feeling playful and 'hunts' hIs own back feet and tail. He does this cute fake munching on his feet, and then pretends to lose them and catches them again, I love it!

Toddlerteaplease · 31/10/2019 09:49

That is so cute!

drspouse · 31/10/2019 09:52

Mine seems to like peanut butter...

Photo answers OP's question! Ollie was rescued at 15 weeks, and he's much loved

Our cat can't meow or even purr properly. He doesn't like boxes and will only sleep in two places in the house. He won't go near anyone who comes in the house but will happily approach strangers in the street. He's a strange one but we love him and wouldn't change a thing about him !

YesItsMeIDontCare · 31/10/2019 10:07

My Leroy is a nutter. He is one big quirk. Goes for walks on a lead twice a day. God alone knows what he was doing last night, but it sounded like he'd invited a herd of hippos in for a roller skating party.

Shannith · 31/10/2019 10:12

Adopted mine at 5 months and she is the sweetest little thing. She 9 months now.

DD adores her just a little bit too much and DCat puts up with being dressed as a bat, dinosaur and ummm... being carried around in a plastic bag.

I'm really mean and don't let animals have human food but she went crazy this week over a packet of salt and vinegar crisps.

She also comes to the door to greet visitors and is such a happy little soul. She fell in love with a foster greyhound and followed her about like a slave. The greyhound was far too old to chase cats so they became firm friends.

That's so cute.

It just made me think of another strange thing about our boy. He won't go in either of our bathrooms. We've had him for years but he's just never gone in them.

I've got a video of her bathroom behaviour. It's so cute. But can't post it!

Oh my goodness, she is adorable. 😍 How could anyone resist that face? Love her name too.

LucaFritz · 31/10/2019 17:15

She never used to meow either until recently when she yawned a meow came out by accident and it was like a lightbulb moment for her and now she talks constantly especially at 4am when everyone is sleeping Grin she also likes Cheese and she's partial to a salt and vinegar crisp or two and a bit of curry Confused she has good taste but not that of a normal 🐱 Does anyone else's cat like water to the point they'll have a shower or bath and enjoy or is she alone on that one 😂

Magic used to silently meow. Took her years to find her voice. Now she quacks like a duck. It's so cute. @MonChatEstMagnifique she's the most bonkers cat I've ever met. She's such a character. So affectionate and incredibly gentle. I can't take credit for the name. As her previous owner gave it to her. ( she's from a rescue)

Toddlerteaplease · 31/10/2019 17:20

Magic gets bathed by her groomer. I think she secretly quite likes it. She doesn't make a fuss.

ApacheTomcat · 31/10/2019 17:23

My cat is agoraphobic and has all the hunting skills of a furry brick.

Plastic bags and wrappers have to be kept out of sight or he will eat them. The telltale sign that he's found one is that his litter box contains what looks like shrink-wrapped poo. It still reeks as much as the non-shrink-wrapped variety though.

It's a good thing we love him. :o

ClientListQueen · 31/10/2019 17:25

He doesn't hunt, and runs away from spiders
Loves jacket potato and beans
Thinks pork scratchings are the best food ever
Would rather cuddle than go outside
Says mama lots
Thinks a night inside gazing and blinking at me is amazing Hmm

LucaFritz · 31/10/2019 17:35

Mine has also eaten plastic and pooed it out which made for a nice suprise when i changed her tray Shock how she didn't perforate her intestine or stomach i don't know. She likes to hunt plastic bags and hair clips yet pays no attention to the pile of specially bought cat toys in the corner Hmm lesson learned if i get a 2nd cat just give them an old cardboard box and a crisp packet and you'll have a friend for life

Girlcat is a "normal" cat - within the usual very wide bounds of what one can consider normal in a cat. She does have a habit of sitting just out of reach and staring at me very intently for no apparent reason; Your Cat magazine suggests this behaviour is just cats enjoying the company of their pets (humans) but I'm not so sure. She also doesn't like me spending much time on the PC when I should be in the other room watching her adoringly while she stared at me, and lately she's taken to patting the back of the PC chair gently when she thinks I've been ignoring her to long.

Then we get to Boycat! His quirks mostly seem to be down to the fact that he is thick as shit, clumsy, terrified of most things and according to the vet "borderline special needs". He has to have 2 bed cuddles before i go downstairs in the mornings. He follows me round the house crying when I'm doing a work day routine. He falls off things for no apparent reason. He panics at anybody other than me or DSIS in the house (she feeds them if I go away). He "redecorates" the living room walls (see attached pics of him in the act). He forgets where the Dreamies are that I put in front of him 10 seconds ago. He is the most adorable, handsome cat in the world to me!

TrainspottingWelsh · 31/10/2019 21:11

All of mine are weird in their own way.

Cat 1, doesn't quite understand she isn't a herd animal as far as other cats go and is meant to be at least vaguely territorial with her own species. Instead, she is very friendly with all the local cats and tries to bring her special friends home. But with visiting humans and dogs on what she considers her territory, she isn't at all sociable and can be aggressive if she feels provoked.

Cat 2- ex feral colony queen, originally taken on because she needed a quiet rural outdoor home and we could offer it. Still an amazing hunter and unlike a domestic cat in that sense, and exceptionally timid with other people, but is the most sociable cuddly lap cat with us and loves company and is always in for the night before the other two.

Cat 3, ex stray, somewhere between 18 & 20. Spent the first 13/15 years as an aggressive fighting and roaming Tom with uncaring owners. Next 5 as a roaming fighter that racked up a small fortune in vet bills. More scars than cat. But other than some arthritis he's physically fine. He's amazing to still be here after such a hard life.

JorisBonson · 31/10/2019 21:14

This idiot is not a lap cat in the slightest but follows me EVERYWHERE and just stays a little bit away. He also loves sticks - he manages to get big tree trunks in through the cat flap and carries them about like a dog.

Theonewiththecat · 31/10/2019 21:19

Mine is just an idiot.

If you shout 'cat! An arsehole says meow?' He will meow back at you.

When he wants a cuddle he will meow at you until you bend down, then he stand on his back legs with his front legs in the air, so you can pick him up easier. (Like a child)

blamethecat · 31/10/2019 21:26

Licking, he just loves licking me. Usually first thing when I've fed him he comes up to bed, sits on the table or bed and licks any bare bit of skin in reach.
