I posted on here in January as a new kitten owner and got some brilliant advice. Well today I have became an owner to this little boy as well 😍 my 7 year old has named him Pepsi Hmm. Here he is and also Luna who is now 8 months.

Omg. They are gorgeous!

QueeniesPotOfRouge · 22/07/2019 13:55

Beautiful 😍

Echobelly · 22/07/2019 13:57

Gorgeous. Luna looks thrilled at the new company Grin

Newcatmum · 22/07/2019 13:57

Luna isn't impressed she's lying at the opposite side of the room just watching disapprovingly. She's been a bit hissy but I guess that's to be expected. I really hope she comes round and they get on.

How long on average does it take an existing cat to get used to a new kitten or is that how long is a piece of string? She's normally very laid back but she has just hissed at my toddler and that never happens, usually she just lies there chilled out while my toddler plays with her but this time she hissed and ran away. I'm worried about her turning on her she has never scratched any of us in all the time I've had her and would hate for that to change now.

You should really have them in separate rooms. Scent swap the blankets then feed them at the same time getting their bowls closer and closer. It worked for us. The big one will hiss and swipe the little one but they will work it out.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 22/07/2019 19:46

Ours acted like they hated each other while they were separated, eventually we'd had enough of their nonsense and opened the doors. Existing cat followed new cat around for 2 days then decided she was alright actually. They quite like each other now. Your two are gorgeous.

Newcatmum · 22/07/2019 19:49

That was my plan EachandEveryone but I don't have a living room door open at the moment due to decorating so it's been harder than I thought. Luna needs access to her toilet in the back hallway which is only accessible through the kitchen so the only way around that would be to keep her shut in the kitchen which doesn't seem fair when she usually has free run of the house.

My only other option would be to shut new kitten in an upstairs room but I don't want to leave him alone and he cries anytime we leave the living room.

Some websites I've looked at say gradual introduction through scents etc but then I've read others which say just get straight to it.

Ahh thank you that gives me a bit of hope. I'm hoping she comes round soon she's in such a huff at the moment! It's actually making me feel quite guilty tbh.

Have you got any Feliway Friends? We used it when we introduced ours, I don’t know if it made a difference but worth a try?
I’d say it took about a month for ours to decide they could get on. After about a week they could sit in the same room, the chasing and hissing gradually reduced and now they just chase in play.
They were 8 months and 3 months when they met. I just put them straight together as they were both still kittens, I wouldn’t have if one was an adult.

Newcatmum · 22/07/2019 22:20

I've been looking at Feliways but the reviews seem mixed so wasn't sure if they were actually worth the money? Similar age to mine 8 months and 2 months. A month isn't too bad hopefully mine will get on too! My main worry is that the bigger one will have a personality change as I've just had to chase her around outside to bring her in she really wasn't happy so now my hands are all scratches she's never scratched like that before Sad. Everyone always commented how gentle and laid back she is and I would hate to think I've changed that and made her uptight.

thecatneuterer · 22/07/2019 23:24

Don't worry. It will all settle down in a few weeks. Her personality hasn't been changed irrevocably.

Thank you that's reassuring. You actually gave me a lot of advice and tips first time round so glad to see you posting on my thread.

Day 2 is going well. New kitten is eating and drinking and using his litter tray. It took days before Luna was doing any of this. Yesterday he just wanted to sit on me and cried whenever I left the room but today he's running all over the house and refusing to sit with me! Luna is following him everywhere which has surprised me. She's still not over the moon with him and was swiping out at him earlier but now it's more of a bop round the head than a claws out scratch. I think this is progress??Grin

Allergictoironing · 23/07/2019 15:55

She's just making sure that he knows she is Top Cat in the house. If there was a real problem, there would be blood, fur & crying.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 23/07/2019 16:27

A bop around the head is progress!

He looks like a very confident kitten!?

sweetkitty · 23/07/2019 16:34

He is the image of our new kitten too! Love little black panthers. We have two one year old cats too a girl and a boy. They hissed at the kitten for the first day now they are the best of friends, we had them separated by a door and kitten cried to get out, he wakes up cries for the big cats, boy big cat cries back and they head bump and groom each other. Kitten follows boy cat around. Girl cat is less fussed although she did five bomb and play with the kitten earlier. He’s only been here a week but settled in brilliantly.

sweetkitty · 23/07/2019 16:35

Here they after 3 days

Newcatmum · 23/07/2019 16:52

That's what I was thinking there's no blood so can't be that bad!

He is very confident! Yesterday he was so timid and just clinged (clung?) to me the full day but today he has been all over the house and taking himself off to different rooms investigating.

sweetkitty how adorable! Glad to hear it only took them a week hopefully this time next week mine will be best friends and I'll be able to post a similar photo. Is that boy cat with him in the photo?

Aw they are so cute! Does the big one go outside?

Newcatmum · 23/07/2019 21:35

I only started letting her out on Saturday. For the past couple of months she's been trying to escape through open windows and every time the door opened she'd bolt out and I'd bring her back in. So on Saturday I got brave and decided to let her outside and she came in not long after! Since then if I open the door she will sometimes go out and have a sniff around the garden and straight back in.

Last night though she ran out and hid in my neighbour's garden refusing to come back in. Was chasing her for ages then when I caught her she was wriggling to get down and scratched my hands. I guess that was all because she was in a huff about the kitten and didn't want to come back in. Now they are following each other everywhereGrin
