Talk to me about ragdolls

Tell me about your ragdolls. I'm so drawn to them! Are they generally much more docile than your average moggy or is there really no difference? Is it much harder having an indoor cat? Are they less aloof than moggys? I'd really love a very affectionate cat that will be a friend for my kids and company for me.

Persians are much better! Not helpful!

GoldPaperStars · 18/06/2019 15:24

Best cats ever. Bit needy, and often a bit stupid, but incredibly dosile and affectionate.

Serenajoy1 · 18/06/2019 15:30

Tell me about persians too!

They are exactly what @GoldPaperStars said. How ever they are so much cuter than rag dolls!

I rehomed our Raggie.... he's very docile and affectionate, my kids drag him about the house whilst he purrs in enjoyment. He also comes when called without fail, even if he is outside and I'm shouting up the stairs inside for him! Most sources suggest they aren't very streetwise and should be kept as indoor cats only but outs would be demented to be shut in and a large part of him being rehomed was he wanted to go out and previous owner was in a flat in a city.

He can be a but needy on occasion and is prone to following me around yelling for attention, particularly if the weather is bad and he doesn't want to go out and play... this is made up for by being super cute and giving excellent cuddles.

I loved my ragdoll so so much...he was a bit needy but I loved that because I was his favourite person. I would rather a cat that is a little clingy than one that is so independent that you barely know you have a cat.

He also hated my dick of an ex so they are clearly excellent judges of character 😜

Oh I love my raggies but I think I would go for a moggy when the time comes. They need a lot of attention and most are unsuitable to be outdoor cats, although mine do enjoy a stroll around the garden.

They are definitely more chilled than most moggies, also very affectionate. None of mine like to sit on my lap (one will occasionally) but they absolutely love a fuss. Beau loves to be brushed and will literally melt when I get the brush out, he also licks us! Another loves his tummy rubbed and will flop himself down with his little legs up ready.

They are such sweet cats but indoor cats do need a lot of attention and play to stop them being bored.

Toddler do you really hate ragdolls? Every time I see a ragdoll thread I see you trying to put people off Confused

Serenajoy1 · 18/06/2019 16:52

They really sound ideal Smile

Love my boy :) He's a real snuggle bunny but not the sharpest cat! He does follow me around but just settled down in whatever room I'm in. He needs a lot of grooming though or he gets mats.

So beautiful! Re the grooming, do you just brush him every day or take him to a groomer?

OP posts:
Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 18/06/2019 18:06

I brush every week or so. 2 of mine don’t like it so I have to give them a quick going over and the other one is very happy to be brushed for as long as my arm can take it!

junecat · 18/06/2019 18:07

I brush him everyday, luckily he loves it!

Rolypolybabies · 18/06/2019 18:14

Get a sphynx! No hair issues

This is Winston. He's a domestic longhair, rescue moggie. He's a soppy old fluffball.

He was 4 when we adopt him, as an adult his personality was already established so we knew he was a cuddle cat and didn't have to go through the manic teenage cat stage Grin
Sadly his first owner died of cancer so he came to live with us.

Purebreds are also lovely but a. cost more (to buy and insure) and b. very sadly, different breeds have higher rates of certain diseases.

@Chancewouldbeafinethlng no I don't hate them, I don't hate any car. But for some reason I just can't warm to them. No idea why!

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 18/06/2019 19:15

That’s fair enough, we all have our preferences but sometimes it can look rude to hijack the thread about your dislike for them.

TastingTheRainbow · 18/06/2019 19:20

I’ve got 3 Ragdolls, well I have 6 right now but 3 are kittens that won’t be staying.

Best cats ever! They are adorable and so affectionate! They are quite dog like and follow you round, want to be with you a lot, I even know of one that likes playing fetch.

Downside is they moult, a lot! Although having soft silky fur means they don’t matt so they are easy to groom at least. And they are addictive! It’s very hard to stick to just having 1.

My girls are seal point, blue mitted and blue lynx.

Ffs this makes me so cross. Have you people got any idea how many cats and kittens are in rescue right now, waiting for homes? Stop breeding your cats irresponsibly and lining breeders' pockets. Neuter your pets. Adopt, don't shop!

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 18/06/2019 19:29

I adopted 2 of my ragdolls!

junecat · 18/06/2019 19:30

Mine was a rescue, never heard of the breed before but I was asked to take him from someone in very genuine need and I'm so very glad I did x
