Talk to me about ragdolls

Tell me about your ragdolls. I'm so drawn to them! Are they generally much more docile than your average moggy or is there really no difference? Is it much harder having an indoor cat? Are they less aloof than moggys? I'd really love a very affectionate cat that will be a friend for my kids and company for me.

How about this crowd?
www.blackberryhillragdolls.com/
They appear to be reputable.
The thing is, if you buy off done deal, you don't know what you are getting or how healthy the cat is likely to be. Chances are you will pay 600 euro on a kitten that isn't a ragdoll and/or will develop health problems and die within the year.
I know it's hard not falling in love with a cute kitten but making sure you go through reputable channels will save you money and heartbreak.

Yes I have been in touch with BlackBerry hills, waiting on a reply. The kitten above , patents are not registered either so just bred from their pets. I'm not prepared to pay €600 without some kind of health testing so I will most likely keep looking

Serenajoy1 If you say so. But it’s really about educating ourselves about how wonderful all moggies are. They’re not all suitable to families with young children but your basic mog can be as great a pet as a rag doll or Persian.

TastingTheRainbow · 20/06/2019 20:01

@mimibunz Not one person on this thread has said moggies don’t make good pets and people don’t need to be educated on that. There is nothing wrong with wanting a pedigree cat, that doesn’t mean we have some dislike for moggies.

Do you see people on the dog forums telling people to get a mixed breed and not a pedigree? It’s usually the opposite and people warn stay away from the unethically bred mixed breeds in fact. What makes cats different?

Jennyfi · 20/06/2019 21:23

Re: the registering, when we got our cat (not a rag-doll), he wasn't registered either. The breeder had a policy that he didn't register the kittens until the new owners had them neutered and sent proof. In this case, you said the parents weren't registered either, but I thought I'd add that just in case you come across another breeder who has the same policy.

BlackBerry Hills are a lot more than €600.

Fab breeder, though.

minibunz.... I've always had moggies, mostly from rescues, and have been lucky to have some really lovely cats. Our Raggie cam to us to be rehomed to us and came free of charge from a friend of a friend with all his beds/ toys/ brushes etc. I've never considered, or been able to afford, buying a pedigree. That said, I now know that Ragdolls make such lovely, gentle, affectionate family pets, I can totally understand why you would seek out an animal with specific traits.... from a reputable breeder, of course.
