My Cats and Their Best Buddy

I often see people referring to cats as being solitary creatures. My cats have loved my neighbour’s cat since the day they met him over 5 years ago. I just went into the garden to be met with this lovely scene! My cats are the gingers, Archie and Angus. The tabby is their friend Hamish!

Funny, my cat is a proper scrappy little git and really territorial but absolutely loves my neighbours ginger cat Smile

Our teenage hood cat Pepper has a friend called Óscar. They slept curled up together and groomed each other. Always in and out of each other's houses.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/04/2019 18:12

Op your boys are stunning!

Icequeen01 · 08/04/2019 18:39

Thank you Toddlerteaplease - they are brothers but have very different personalities. One is always out and the other is usually always in. There must have been some hot gossip that Hamish needed to pass on about the neighbour’s cat in the other side!

It's a myth! Cats are solitary hunters, but really quite sociable the rest of the time. We have two unrelated rescues who have been best buddies ever since they first met. They also enjoy hanging out with the neighbours cats. Our previous cats were also good mates.

Asbo had two friends when we lived rurally. If he was in for the night one of them would miaow for him.

It was very cute.

your little gang photo has just made me smile after a rubbish day!

Icequeen01 · 08/04/2019 20:35

In the 35 years that I have been a cat owner I have only ever had one cat who hated other cats. Unfortunately for him we got him as a pair (his sister) from the RSPCA and there was already a resident cat at home. Luckily the sister bonded with the resident cat but her brother was spiteful and aggressive towards any cat that came within 10 feet of him. When it came to humans though he was the most loving cat you could ever meet and was never far from my side.

@HuggedTheRedwoods So sorry to hear you have had a rubbish day but glad my boys and their friend have made you smile. Here’s another photo I took a few years ago, again with their buddy! Hope it helps cheer you up.

Ours hates other cats. I've never had such a cat hating cat!!
As a child our girl cat had a boy cat (both neutered) who would call for her to go and play. It was very sweet but then they got to about 4 or 5 and they stopped liking each other.

EachandEveryone · 08/04/2019 21:30

They are gorgeous are they pedigrees?

Icequeen01 · 08/04/2019 22:11

They are half pedigree as their mum was a beautiful Birman who had a fling with the local ginger tom. The mum was found with her five kittens in a shed at the back of a garage in the village next mine and she was taken in by our local rescue. The mum wasn’t microchipped and no one came forward to claim her so they were all rehomed and we were lucky enough to get our two boys.

They very nice boys!

NW2SW · 09/04/2019 06:14

Handsome floofs 😍

My rescue is a large breed, we thought he was going to be the terror of the neighbourhood. As he was mistreated and can be aggressive if he doesn't get his own way. However he now has bestie who's our neighbours cat and regularly visits our local pub and most neighbours houses (around tea time). Seems we're the only ones who get the stroppy teen act Hmm

slipperywhensparticus · 09/04/2019 06:20

My cat was friends with the neighbour's rabbit they used to sunbathe together and he would roll over if the rabbit wanted to eat the grass under him

Our Biggie tried to make friends with a dog once. The dog appeared not to know quite what to make of him.

My sister (who has never met the Big but has heard about him) said once that you feel as if you should say, "This is Biggie. He's adorable, if not a bit 'special.'" Biggie snuggles a hamster "Like we said..." She said once that she suspects he could cohabit with just about anything furry with no idea of what it was, if it could hurt him, or what purpose it served. She's probably right. So far he has only been road-tested with a number of cats and a dog. He got along with everybody.

cricketmum84 · 09/04/2019 07:48

Current cat is a cat hater, she's a wee slip of a thing (just under 3kg) but she chases other cats away like she's twice the size!!

We did have a lovely cat named Elvis when the kids were younger, he was best buddies with the cat over the road. He used to sit on their windowsill and meow until they let their cat out and then they would play wrestle on the front garden. He also used to sneak in their cat flap on an evening and they would find the 2 cats fast asleep together in their kitchen 😂

HuggedTheRedwoods · 09/04/2019 20:38

@Icequeen01, yes another smile at the little gang. Its really sweet how close they're all sitting - obviously plotting something! Do feel free to post many more!

HuggedTheRedwoods · 09/04/2019 20:56

forgot to say - thank you!

MeltingWax · 09/04/2019 21:01

They very gorgeous boys! Nicey boys!

WhatshouldIpay · 10/04/2019 01:07

At my old house, my boy cat idolised the cat two doors down. He would follow him around like a shadow. The other boy was really only interested in coming inside to eat my cats' food and tolerated the adoration 😀
