Name our new kittens!

Very excited to be bringing home 2 new kittens in a couple of months. Our friends cat had a litter of 4 last week so we went to see them as I've never seen newborn kittens before and predictably I've absolutely fallen head over heels. However I'm totally stumped about what to call them! DH thinks I'm absolutely rubbish with names (cant dispute that, I am!) so I need to draw on some mumsnet wisdom Grin

We've agreed to name one each, although we haven't decided on who is naming which. Keen to avoid names starting with A, M, P & T and people names. Would also prefer a 2 syllable name. All the kittens are tortie and white so should all be girls, one has more grey and the other has more ginger. Should be a picture of them attached below...

I have a tortie named Autumn, which suits her colors, but you said you wanted to avoid names starting with A.

MagicalPinkUnicornFlower · 14/03/2019 20:11

Autumn is a lovely name Smile trying to avoid having similar names to other pets though in the vague hope one of them might listen to me one day!

Blossom and Poppy came to mind but the latter is both a people name (as well as the obvious!) and P!

MagicalPinkUnicornFlower · 14/03/2019 20:26

Oooooh! Blossom is right up my street, putting that on the shortlist.

This is Mr P hoping to be won over by the ladies. He's such a mummy's boy and keeps waking me up at 3am for attention...

Freddie and Ginger (so jealous)!

MagicalPinkUnicornFlower · 15/03/2019 01:07

Love the idea of Freddie and Ginger but the reference was sadly lost on DH... uncultured swine he is Grin

Our cats are named Pony and Donkey which adds to the colour of the household.

One named so on purpose as a marital compromise, the other was an accident since she arrived through the kitchen window.

I highly recommend both names.

MagicalPinkUnicornFlower · 15/03/2019 17:50

Pony and Donkey sound brilliant, but they're exactly the kind of names that got me in trouble in the first place! I always make DH ring the vets for Mr P as I can't stop laughing when the receptionist has to repeat his name several times over in disbelief Grin

Warmhandscoldheart · 15/03/2019 17:59

They're gorgeous. Smudge and Marbles, sorry I've used M

MagicalPinkUnicornFlower · 15/03/2019 18:56

Marbles could work. It does sound distinctly different from our other M name. Would it be destined to become a crazy cat though? Mr P has lived up to his name and is on a diet for being overweight... that's definitely outed me if any friends find this Grin

We're picking up our new kittens next week. Both tortie sisters. Mine is going to be called Betty. Mr Soontobe is going to call his Mrs Doyle (he's a big Father Ted fan!)
I'm definitely not taking Mrs Doyle to the vets 🤣🤣🤣

abcriskringle · 15/03/2019 20:20

Katniss! My cat's name and suits her down to the ground as she is feisty, independent and a good hunter!

GarthFunkel · 15/03/2019 20:22

Digby
Lettice
Kipper
Marmalade

Easterbunnyiscomingsoon · 15/03/2019 20:23

Marbles and Mabel.

slipperywhensparticus · 15/03/2019 20:25

Oscar?

slipperywhensparticus · 15/03/2019 20:25

We had a tabby called "miss tiddles" started as a nickname ended up her real name

GiantKitten · 15/03/2019 20:29

I’m hopeless at names (one of mine is called Kitten. He’s half Bengal & weighs 7kg!) but just wanted to say how gorgeous they are Smile

I’d love a calico cat

Seeleyboo · 15/03/2019 20:54

Little bit.

LokiCat · 15/03/2019 21:00

We named ours Loki. Think she was 8 weeks when we finally agreed on a name!

MagicalPinkUnicornFlower · 15/03/2019 22:29

Have previously considered Marmalade and Marmite but DH is keen for all the names to sound different so they don't get confused. Although considering A comes no matter what name is being called I'm not sure how important it is.

Katniss is a great name but we already shout "catses" when we want them to move somewhere so not sure that would work.

A close friend already has stolen Kipper so that's out I'm afraid.

So far my favourites are Freddie (DH not keen at all and keeps saying "they're girl cats ffs woman!") and Nebula, which I know will end up being shortened to something like Nebs which just doesn't sound pretty at all...

Please keep them coming! Mr P has gone into hiding until I can come up with a good name Grin

Kittens!!! Look at those tiny pink paws!

MagicalPinkUnicornFlower · 15/03/2019 22:55

They're the most adorable little things I've ever seen, and I thought Mr P was cute as a kitten...

I do agree that the naming of Pony and Donkey has at times caused both confusion and hilarity.

Every time I take Donkey to the vets (she is a frequent flyer who has been diagnosed as a male transvestite when I queried her esthetics) the receptionists try and figure out ways to make me say Donkey out loud as many times as possible.
Oh the joys of having a BBC accent in the land of Kentucky!

Once an acquaintance actually thought I had taken a real Donkey to the vets since we are enthusiastic Pretend Farmers.
So I had some explaining to do since he started blabbering on about trailers and shit.

The cats are the only livestock we have - and they are extremely suspicious of the barn.

ChocDee · 16/03/2019 13:08

Oh and I would loooooove another cat. I have never had a kitten...

It really doesn't sound right does it?

You are one lucky gal!
