How long before I give in?

Before Christmas Harry went off his favourite Country Hunter food so we changed him to James Wellbeloved which he has practically been inhaling. I did a bulk order from Zooplus and, you've guessed it, he's looking at his bowl as though I've put poison in it.

Yesterday I gave in and gave him dry food, mainly to make sure he was ok and his mouth wasn't playing him up. I gave him a wet pouch this morning and he doesn't want to know.

What do I do? How long do I persevere with the pouches? He's got early CKD (I think) so I know he has to eat. I want him on wet food so he gets his Ipakitine for his kidneys but I can't starve the poor sod into submission. He's so bloody minded I don't think he'll give in and eat the pouch.

My friend mixes her wet and dry in the same bowl have u tried that?

Toddlerteaplease · 20/01/2019 13:24

Snorg says to tell Harry not to be so naughty!

ProfessorCustard · 20/01/2019 13:30

I'd move on to something else now. My cat used to hoover up new pouches because of the novelty but he soon realised he wasn't really a fan. He's only eaten Gourmet a la carte pouches for 7 years now and no sign of going off them!

WatcherOfTheNight · 20/01/2019 13:30

Naughty Harry !
My terror was similar, turns out she simply must have a variety, she won't eat the same meal twice in a row .

She's still fussy & will not touch certain foods but is much better now I'm giving a rotation.

Ps ,we saw handsome Harrys pic ....Miss Eevee says MEEEEOWWW! cor he's a handsome boy !

He's currently prowling round looking like he's up to something, presumably because he's hungry! I'm trying not to give in but it's not easy.

Hopefully he'll listen to Snorg!

ProfessorCustard I have no idea what to try next! So far he's eaten and gone off every flavour of Sainsbury's and Tesco own brand, Nature's Menu, Country Hunter and Meowing Heads and now James Wellbeloved. He gives the bowl such a wide berth it's ridiculous. The only thing he's never gone off is his dry food.

Gourmet perle and gourmet solitaire is what my 2 eat. They have been through several different brands/ varieties

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2019 13:55

I'll have a look at those as well. I wouldn't mind if he gave you a hint, but he just refuses it. He ate on Friday night, yesterday morning he wouldn't touch it.

Have you tried his previous favourites you've got stashed at the back of the cupboard? Nothing to loose!

Theunsungsong · 20/01/2019 14:12

Last time we tried to persevere with if he is hungry enough he will eat it, our boy started to self-cater and we came downstairs to strategically placed entrails.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2019 14:17

Most of his previous favourites have been donated to charity (they do very well from me!) and I'm trying to avoid the ones that are left as his litter tray has been so much more fragrant recently! I suppose needs must!

Theunsungsong that's grim! Harry has never been a decent hunter so I'm hoping he won't start now. He used to bring in other cat's long dead kills!

Eevee has a rotation of -

My Star Mousse trays
Mr.Stuzzy trays
Animonda vom Feinstein fish & meat trays
Wild freedom tins

Bamaluz · 20/01/2019 15:00

Sometimes I have to mix my fussy cat's food with Lik e lix, or Arden Grange liver paste to get him to eat it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2019 15:17

I tried a rotation. It worked at first and then he refused to eat the different flavours one by one. His previous vet called him particular...

Can you mix the biscuits with a bit of warm water?

We do half a pouch a.m, half a pouch p.m plus 70g of biscuits a day.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2019 15:34

He's fine with the biscuits, it's the wet food he won't touch. He loves dry food and we struggled when he broke his jaw as he didn't want wet. We tried putting warm water on this biscuits but even that didn't go down well! He's so bloody fussy!

Particular Grin

What about tinned fish ,a little mixed in?
Miss Eevee loves it & is also partial to a bit of grated cheddar

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2019 15:41

He used to love tuna but he won't touch that now! He's getting worse in his old age!

WatcherOfTheNight · 20/01/2019 15:53

Yep,they sure do ! Eevee is only 2 so we will probably end up going through it again .

We have 4 dogs also so usually have in cook from frozen white fish ,tinned Salmon ,sardines or mackerel in olive oil or tomato sauce ,only 40p a tin for the last 2 I'm not sure if cats can have the tomato sauce though .

I hope you manage to find something tempting soon for Mr H!

EachandEveryone · 20/01/2019 17:58

Have you tried Gourmet Savoury cakes? Mine go mad for the tuna or salmon ones.

My neighbours 16 year old has got real fussy and she will try anyth8ng and he really is enjoy8ng M and S own brand.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/01/2019 18:04

@WatcherOfTheNight harry is already spoken for!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2019 18:54

Well one of us broke and surprisingly it wasn't me! He's finally eaten most of the pouch I put down for breakfast and he's taken to his chair under the table next to the radiator. So far that's one all!

Oh dear , I'm not surprised though @Toddlerteaplease ,he's a looker for sure .

I will keep this information to myself ,Miss Eevee ,hussy that she is will only see it as a challenge!

We are at times inundated with male callers ,we regularly have 2 full black cats ,one lovely tuxedo boy & a few others competing for her attention.

She. is. a. tease ....she lures them in ....then once under her spell ,the tail puffs out like a skunk & she jumps on them for invading her territory Shock

They still come back ,I don't know why ?
She is neutered but still they come .

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2019 20:33

Yes, Harry's long distance love is his lovely Snorgmaiden. Toddler, I'm sure you've said in the past, but why is she called Snorg?

(I actually googled Snorgmaiden and lots of pictures of her come up!)

Miss Eevee is very pretty but she sounds far to energetic for Harry!

WatcherOfTheNight · 20/01/2019 21:15

Thank you @PinkSparklyPussyCat ,she is a very pretty girl ...but...bear in mind her full name is Miss Evil Eevee, she's also known as -The Tabby Terrorist,Boss Lady or simply She who will do as she wants Confused

The dogs love her but are under no illusions as to who reigns supreme, she perfected what we call "the death roll " practised on the dogs ,a bit before she was 12months old !

It's quite a sight to see a full grown Labrador hiding in fear for his life because she fancies his dinner first !

We love her to bits but the girl is fierce!
