Female Ginger Kitten (and humble brag)

Our new family member arrived yesterday, she is 9 weeks old and 10 year old DD named her Nikita. Everyone keeps telling us how unusual it is to have an orange female - can we have a roll call of ginger girls past or present?

Her disposition so far is great and it's safe to say we are all utterly smitten. Here's a couple of obligatory pics.

She is divine! I don't have a ginger female but I do have a ginger boy and he is wonderful, the sweetest nature and most personality of any cat I've ever had. 😻❤️

I've never known if a ginger female before but I just wanted to say she's so cute she looks like a picture from one of those twee 1950's Christmas cards with kittens wearing little Santa hats

My family used to be heavily involved in cat rescue, and one of the strays we took in was a pregnant ginger female. She gave birth to two kittens,one male and one female. Both ginger.

We got our ginger "girl" at 12 weeks and named her Demelza. 2 weeks later at her vet appointment the vet informed us she was a he! He is now 4 month old Atticus and we're in love.

Also your kitten is adorable. I have kitten envy now.

Gorgeous! A neighbour of mine had a ginger female who was adorable and had adorable ginger kittens. My favourite cat ever was a ginger Tom- so friendly and affectionate he was almost like a dog.

Ginger female is rare, but less rare than calico male.

‘The gene that governs how the orange color in cats displays is on the X chromosome. Any cat, male or female, can be orange, but in males the color is nearly always expressed in the tabby (striped) pattern, sometimes called a ginger tom. Females can be orange tabby, calico or tortoiseshell.’

Our girl is a very pale ginger- don't think I've ever seen a cat this colour before! Breeder referred to her as 'blonde' but vet put her down as ginger and said that it's rare. Her brother is the same shade of ginger but with more defined 'stripes' and with white patches.

Cheddar says she not a ginger Persian, ages a red Persian.

We had a "champagne" ginger girl and boy cat when I was little - their mother was lighter ginger than normal and their father being proper ginger - the kittens we had looked like theSnuffster's little one. The owner of the parent cats had been breeding ginger on ginger for a while to get a lighter colour - I remember that was an excruciating conversation to listen to as a teenager

I know the grey/pale ginger/white is called dilute calico

I love the pale ginger colour

We have a ginger boy and ginger girl. (thought they were both boys and noone had checked cos they were ginger! so she has a boy-name!)

She's 12, grouchy and loves her home comforts, she's not even contemplated the outside world for most of this week... she has sense!

Ah 'champagne', that's a nice term for the colour!

Have had 2 ginger females - the first was completely ginger tabby, the current one is ginger and white. I was told when I adopted both of them that it was unusual.

I do find my ginger girls a bit psycho though.

We've always had ginger cats. We did have a ginger girl who had 6 all ginger kittens, 4 boys and 2 girls! Ginger cats are the best.

We had a ginger girl called Anchovy, she was gorgeous and would follow me to the shops. I'd call her and we could hear her thundering down the street with her bell ringing. Till one day she didn't...

So far my little one has a lovely personality. Had her at the vet last night for her first check up and she has fleas and worms... and is only 8 weeks old so not the best start in life for her.
Anyway thanks for welcoming her, I'm looking forward to being able to participate in all the cat threads :)

I think around 80% of ginger cats are Male. I had a ginger female as one of my last pair of cats. She was tiny and gorgeous.

My girl is 13 and a half now and very chilled ❤️ She had an accidental litter when she was about 2 and had all gingers and they were all boys
