Female Ginger Kitten (and humble brag)

Our new family member arrived yesterday, she is 9 weeks old and 10 year old DD named her Nikita. Everyone keeps telling us how unusual it is to have an orange female - can we have a roll call of ginger girls past or present?

Her disposition so far is great and it's safe to say we are all utterly smitten. Here's a couple of obligatory pics.

I read 91% of ginger cats are boys.

I don't think they're as rare as only 9%.

I've got a blotchy orange black and white grown up kitty - not sure she counts! So smart. Ex farm cat and she's sharp as a knife but cuddly too.

We had a dainty little ginger girl called Amber many years ago.

Then more recently a handsome ginger boy who we lost just over a year ago. Here he is

This has not been my experience with my ginger females - they have both been rather bitey and scratchy. Must be something I'm doing wrong. (So cute though - sigh.)

kaitlinktm- I’m sure it’s not you! I has a couple of greedy moody black and white cats in my life, and I was sworn off getting another. But my lovely cat now is black and white. She’s so sweet.

We had a ginger female ... went to the vets for first injections to be told, no you have a ginger boy ... “do you still want to keep him?”

When we got there the vet said there’s no way the kitten could be female as “you don’t get ginger females, all ginger cats are male”. ..... after reading here it seems the vet was wrong and should go back to uni!

Aww she's lovely. Ginger female is rare. Lovely name your DD gave her too!

We had a ginger female cat 20 odd years ago; she was beautiful, very smart and one of the most affectionate cats I've ever had. Still miss her now ☹️

I had two in rescue - Skinny (because she was) and her daughter Lucky (because she was the only one of Skinnys litter of 5 to survive. Both so beautiful. Ginger girls aren't so rare here in KSA. I also have 2 ginger and white girls now as pets, along with a ginger and white boy and 2 calico girls.

I have two ginger girls :) Myrtle and Hermione. When we first took them for a vet check up, she said “you’re expecting one of these to be a girl??” (At the time we thought we had one boy one girl) and instead of her seeing two boys which she thought she would, she was actually almost speechless telling us they were both girls. She said 95% of ginger cats are Male.

Here’s my two, they’re nearly 8 months now

@GraduationDilemna that's called a Calico cat and most of time (i don't dare say 100% on this thread!) They are female.

I love my ginger boy, he's the 3rd Buddy in our family over years since my mother was small.

They also "talk" to their people more than most cats do. I thought it was a ginger cat trait.
