Anyone use a GPS tracker on their cat?

If so which one do you use please? We're looking into getting one but all the ones I found so far are so big!

Bumping this for you as I would like a recommendation too.

I did have a Pawtrax Halo but returned it three times as it stopped charging and then the cat came home without it a couple of weeks ago.

We bought a Tile Style for CantCat when we moved house. It isn't a GPS tracker but has quite a large range, will tell us if he's nearby and we can then make it sound a tune. It's smaller and much cheaper.
When we first got it we have him some dreamies whenever we pressed it and now more often than not he comes bounding home when he hears it!

I've been looking at the Weenect and Tractive ones. I want to see where they've been as well as where they are. Nothing stands out - all have middling reviews.

Naughtykitty · 07/08/2018 17:13

I've ordered this one...It's coming tomorrow so I will let you know how we get on with it! Bit worried it will be too big. Don't want to put our boy in a harness as they're not quick release so fingers crossed!

If the Weenect ones were cheaper I would have bought one of those.

Interested to hear how you get on. I had Pawtrack but found the collar to big and there were technical issues

hardheadedwoman · 07/08/2018 17:15

*too

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2018 17:17

I'd love one for one of our cats if only they were smaller. He's such a pickle.

dameofdilemma · 07/08/2018 17:20

Our Tractive lasted 4 weeks before the cat lost both the collar and the tracker. It ran out of battery so couldn't be found.

They're too big and too easily lost - think how many collars the average cat gets through.

Naughtykitty · 07/08/2018 18:17

Yes the sizing is a worry. One of ours (luckily the one I worry most about) is the one who doesn't mind wearing a collar so I'm hoping it won't bother him too much! Going to give it a go and see. Cant wait to see where he goes! X

Here he is modelling his new Tracker! He doesn't seem phased by it! I've left his collar quite loose so if it does get caught on anything he can get out of it. It would be ideal if it would stay on his back but it swings round to his front x

I’ll be interested to know what it’s like - after our Cat went missing for a few days in May I’ve got quite anxious when she’s out for what feels like to me too long and DH keeps saying we should get something like that

Naughtykitty · 08/08/2018 13:01

You do have to pay a subscription but it tries to trick you into paying annually. You have to follow the guidance online and then you can pay £4 a month instead of £77 in one go x

I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on!

Naughtykitty · 08/08/2018 15:23

Oh my gosh I love it already!!! Brilliant! I've added it as you can't actually see my address or anything I don't think. But it was very accurate and meant when I could see he was making his way back I could give him the warmest welcome! He didn't mind it at all, didn't seem to bother him! Love it.

Also just to add we are on a new development which is why you can't see any houses on the map

Wow! It must be fascinating to see what your cat has been up to. I hope it stays on.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2018 15:37

That's so cool! Which one did you get in the end? The link didn't show.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2018 15:49

I've asked mn whether there could be a product test for one of these gadgets (with certain privacy safeguards). I hope there can be!

YourHandInMyHand · 08/08/2018 16:00

Wow this is ace, I didn't know there was such a thing, I'd be fascinated. Grin

MirandaWest · 08/08/2018 16:01

A product test would be great

StripySocksAndDocs · 08/08/2018 16:02

I'd love that!!

Though he is the master of collar removal so I feel it'd track to the garden gate only.

LucheroTena · 08/08/2018 16:14

I had a pawtrack which was good but the cats kept losing them and they’re not cheap to replace. Really difficult to keep knocking on neighbours doors to search for a gps collar. Plus I don’t think gps works that well with cats. I use tabcats now which are cheap and beep within a certain distance. Sadly nothing works well enough yet.

Silvercatowner · 09/08/2018 13:00

I would love to track my cats - but they won’t tolerate collars. The last collars lasted 2 days.

IJustHadToNameChange · 09/08/2018 13:05

Looks like they're chasing things around fields.....
