Anyone use a GPS tracker on their cat?

If so which one do you use please? We're looking into getting one but all the ones I found so far are so big!

A trial would be brilliant.

How’s it been going? How often does it need charging? Am still wondering about one of these...

You need TabCat: www.mytabcat.com

How interesting to see exactly where he’s been Grin

Hmmingbird · 18/08/2018 19:43

Thanks Fatbelliedgirl - just ordered one of those, perfect for my two kittens (who I'm convinced somehow hide in the wall cavities just to launch a cat hunt so they feel loved)

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. Here's my review!

Pros:

So it was great to see where they where there were going and keep an eye on them. The live tracking was brilliant. The battery was okay, lasted a few days but obviously the more live tracking you do the more you need to charge. If you pay monthly for the most basic plan it's only about £4 a month rather than paying £75ish upfront for the year. The size was fine, maybe a little bit but they didn't mind it at all and it fitted onto their collar just fine.

Cons:

It isn't cheap! You wouldn't want your cat to be wearing it all the time as it's not comfortable for them to eat/sleep in.
Biggest Con....it got lost! You can track it down but unfortunately for us the collar came off in thick forest with nettles as tall as me. I tried to find it and used the sound/light on the tracker to help but eventually gave up. It couldn't be found. I know it's there somewhere as I can see it on the map but there is no way of retrieving it unfortunately.

The novelty wore off quite quickly with having to take it off/put it on all the time.

My end verdict is that yes it is great and interesting but until they make something much much smaller that is more secure on the collar, I won't be buying another!

I am now thinking of trying the little tags that have been suggested! X

Thanks for being our guineapig!

The tabcat sounds good. Are there any collars that are hypoallergenic for cats or don't rub? Our cat lost a lot of hair around his last one.

EachandEveryone · 21/08/2018 10:21

The tab cat is fine but again it’s not small and the signal doesnt stretch too far. I loved it when my first one started to go out however she lost it and I realised I was being paranoid. When the second kitten came I didn’t even consider getting one. She has never kept her collar on.
