Amputation surgery on Thursday

I posted before about little girl cat (old woman really) who had "lost"a bone in one of her toes. Repeated antibiotics haven't cleared it up so she's going in on Thursday to have the whole digit removed. She's 15, very thin and a housecat. She's also a beloved sister to boy cat (though he's not so beloved by her)

Please send her happy sunny spot thoughts - I'm full on in work on Thursday so it's going to be pretty stressful. He'll also probably go apeshit at her when (if?!) she returns cos she'll smell weird.

Wish us luck

Did your vet tell you the likely cause of this bone loss? I've never encountered this before and am wondering if it is something one should watch out for in older cats? Wishing her all the best, we are sending you pawsitive vibes.

fluffypudcats · 26/06/2018 21:21

No @MrsPawsitive she doesn't have any idea. I've seen 2 different vets (one being a partner) and she's liaised with another 2 but only one of them has seen anything like this. It must have been caught on something and pulled out. But she's an indoor cat and there's no blood anywhere in the house. It must have been agonising and traumatic but her attitude to me hasn't changed at all. I wouldn't have realised if it hadn't become swollen

I've seen how a cat can hurt herself and not reveal in any obvious way that she's in pain. They are very stoic creatures. It was quite fortunate that you caught this when you did. The surgery should put everything back to rights. I'm convinced the cats do appreciate what we do for them, that somehow they understand. At least, that's what I tell myself when I have to take one of ours to the vets! Please let us know how everything goes with your darling cat.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/06/2018 12:27

It hope everything goes well today.

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 28/06/2018 12:48

Lots of luck. Thinking of you all today ☕🐟

LanguidLobster · 28/06/2018 13:29

Would love to know how kitty cat gets on. Poor little thing x

Guiltypleasures001 · 28/06/2018 18:30

Hope all is ok op 💐

fluffypudcats · 28/06/2018 22:05

Oh bless her. She has two bandages - one to her armpit in yellow with chicks on it) and a blue one on the other leg with tractors on it! The poorly one is now about 2 inches longer due to the padding and she can't really walk. She's so not in control of this leg - it's like she's got a massive boxing glove on!

Less positive news is that the bone behind was damaged, implying disease such as cancer so sent off for testing. It may be her leg needs to come off 🙀

Morphine is ace! Shame walking isn't so good…

Oh my! That bandage is almost as big as she is! What was the purpose of the blue bandage, it looks so tightly wrapped? She doesn't look too perturbed in your pictures but I imagine that's the pain meds working their magic. She might need your assistance for bathroom duties for awhile but I suspect she's mostly delighted to be at home in her familiar surroundings. Boycat is probably very curious about what is going on, I'm guessing. Hopefully the doctor's prognosis for her leg is nothing too serious. And do tell her she looks marvelous!

fluffypudcats · 29/06/2018 21:01

My little girl, the evening after the day before! She was ready to find this morning. All you had to do was follow the ~6 ft of bandage she'd manage to pull off. One emergency vet call late and she's in the CoS! I was told to leave her to it to figure it out as she has an appointment tomorrow to "remove the bandage". Think that may be a fairly quick visit!

Fatty once had the bandage with tractors on it. It really made me laugh,

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/06/2018 22:01

Harry's only had plain bandages, I'm jealous!

MrsPawsitive · 30/06/2018 01:33

She looks like she is tolerating the cone quite gracefully!

fluffypudcats · 30/06/2018 19:53

She's coping in the cone quite well providing I hold her food bowl so she can get her cone around it. Her paw is SO tiny 😿

Aww. How long does she have to have the cone on for?

MrsPawsitive · 30/06/2018 20:36

Tugs your heart strings... that little paw looks so vulnerable. Hope her spirits are good today and yours as well.
