Amputation surgery on Thursday

I posted before about little girl cat (old woman really) who had "lost"a bone in one of her toes. Repeated antibiotics haven't cleared it up so she's going in on Thursday to have the whole digit removed. She's 15, very thin and a housecat. She's also a beloved sister to boy cat (though he's not so beloved by her)

Please send her happy sunny spot thoughts - I'm full on in work on Thursday so it's going to be pretty stressful. He'll also probably go apeshit at her when (if?!) she returns cos she'll smell weird.

Wish us luck

@LanguidLobster, Friday is post op check up so probably then, unless it's not healed but looking good so far. Got some manuka honey to try and speed it up so I cut her shaming hours!

Thinking of you - good luck! Flowers

Follow up appt last Monday after emergency visit and subsequent phone call - she got the full leg bandage off within 20 mins! Healing well apparently so ANOTHER appt tomorrow to remove stitches and hopefully bin the cone! All she does is sleep 😢

Hopefully with the photo this time (not sure why it is upside down though)

Awww. Fingers crossed she can get the cone off tomorrow!

fluffypudcats · 07/07/2018 09:46

Cone still on. Wound was covered in gunk and when she cleaned it off, there was puss and open wounds. ANOTHER visit on Tuesday! I had major surgery 16 months ago and everyone seems to know me or heard the story and now it's happening with pusscat too!

It's cancer. Confirmed today. Leg being amputated in the morning. Poor girl, she's 15, 2.8kg and already has one general anaesthetic within the past 10 days. She's had her last meal and I'm just managing to keep calm.

So sorry about the diagnosis x

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 10/07/2018 00:01

Oh bless your girl Fluff, and bless you. Give her lots of love (I know you will), and both try to get some sleep tonight. I hope all goes well. Lots of us will be thinking of you both. Keep us in touch. Flowers

LanguidLobster · 10/07/2018 06:41

Good luck

Sorry to hear it's taken a turn for the worse :(

Poor little cat. It's very stressful for you.
How will she manage without the leg? Does vet think she will be able to hop along fine?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/07/2018 06:51

I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck to you and your lovely girl today Flowers

ballsballsballs · 10/07/2018 07:15

I'm sorry about your lovely girl. Flowers

I had a ginger Tom who had a back leg amputated because of cancer. He coped brilliantly. Cats don't worry about things like we do, so my boy was just happy to be without pain.

fluffypudcats · 16/07/2018 22:11

She's home and adapting well though she has developed a liking for dark hiding places (safe places!)

Give her lots of cuddles when she wants them and space when she doesn't. I've had three cats in the past of the tripod variety and they cope incredibly well - the mouse count went up in one case as if to prove that the lack of a leg wasn't a problem! Wishing her (and you!) a speedy recovery x

overnightangel · 11/07/2019 19:08

Just seen this thread @fluffypudcats
How is she coping on 3 legs a year down the line?

GimmeChocolateNow · 11/07/2019 19:58

@overnightangel unfortunately, she died of an aggressive colon / rectal cancer at the end of February, beautiful and loving to the end. Unfortunately, I had just started radiotherapy away from home so wasn't there in person to say goodbye but did over facetime. This is her in that farewell. A special little cat who has left her brother struggling and desperate to be with me, wherever I am, including waiting outside the shower etc

@GimmeChocolateNow I’m so sorry to hear that Sad She really is beautiful looking, I’m sure you have her a fantastic life and I’m sure you’re taking fantastic care of her brother, bless him. I hope you’re ok yourself after your own worries Flowers

GimmeChocolateNow · 12/07/2019 10:23

@overnightangel thank you. Whilst worries to everyone else, my medical situation is almost like an adventure to me - ooh, what's next? I'm weird I know! This is her clingy, stupid brother
