My cat died today :o(

We're so, so sad. He was off his food and wasn't his usual self so we took him to the vet yesterday. They ran some blood tests and the results were due today. But by this morning he had significantly deteriorated and we took him back in first thing. An hour later they called to say he was gone 😓

Such a shock. He was 8, so not super old. They'll do an autopsy to find out the cause. Coming back home to his little water fountain running in the kitchen and knowing he'll never use it again was just horrible. I turned it off and emptied it. At least the kids are too young to understand (2yrs & 4 months).

I had a bad feeling last night; in my gut I think I knew he wasn't going to make it but I don't know why. DH didn't have this same feeling and consequently when he answered the phone to the vet this morning he burst into tears.

Here he is, our fluffball. R.I.P. minou, we will never forget you xxx

Flowers so sorry, it's heartbreaking to lose a much loved family member

myidentitymycrisis · 09/05/2018 19:27

Oh so sorry. It’s terribly sad when you lose a pet. They are so close to us. When I lost my D I couldn’t move his food bowl for a week or so.
Flowers for you and DH

C4Envelope · 09/05/2018 19:32

So sorry, sending love and kind thoughts. It's just dreadful. We lost our boy back in September from anti freeze poisoning. Still miss him dearly ThanksGin

astoldbyginger · 09/05/2018 19:35

Sorry for your loss. Cats are part of the family they really are. I'm sure he was very well looked after Flowers

DeltaG · 09/05/2018 19:44

Thanks everyone. Yes he was a beautiful cat (my Mum called him a 'chocolate box cat'), and well-loved.

I regret that we couldn't give him as much attention as before the kids arrived, but every evening when they were in bed he used to lie on the sofa between us for cuddles.

I've cleared away as much of his stuff as I can as I can't bear to see it. We're going to give it to the local SPA (like the Cat's Protection here in Switzerland). At least then some other minous will benefit a little from his passing.

I'm so sorry. It's heartbreaking that he was so young Flowers. What a lovely idea to give his things to your local cat rescue centre.

MrsPawsitive · 10/05/2018 03:04

It's awful when they leave us too soon... I'm so sorry for your loss. He looks like a very handsome fellow who loved being part of the family.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/05/2018 06:46

Oh Delta I'm.so sorry. Flowers

User9999 · 10/05/2018 06:53

So sorry about your loss. Sounds like you loved each other so much. Flowers

Ps. Our cat only comes in the house after the kids are in bed, just for cuddles. An ideal life for a cat, independence during the day and cuddles when they want them.

lcc7 · 10/05/2018 07:15

This is awful, such a terrible shock Sad. So so sorry Flowers.

MrsCatE · 10/05/2018 08:43

So sorry for your loss Flowers

MrsHandles · 10/05/2018 09:25

I am so sorry Flowers my cat is currently at the vets on a drip. He’s lost a ton of weight and has stopped eating and drinking. I know what the outcome will be and I’m dreading it. My poor boy is only 5. I cried all evening yesterday and dreading the phone call from the vet today. Huge unMumsnetty hugs

ImAGoofyGoober · 10/05/2018 12:49

Very sorry, it’s heartbreaking Sad
He looked a lovely puss x

DeltaG · 10/05/2018 17:00

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes.

Today is a bank holiday here and it's been a weird kind of a day, quiet (well, as much as possible with a toddler & baby!) and sad. The house doesn't feel comfortable, but I guess this feeling fades with time. I know everything is transient but, still, it's hard when the end comes because it's always too soon 🐾🌈

@MrsHandles

Very sorry you are also going through the pain of losing a furry family member.

My fluffball is waiting for yours on the rainbow bridge, so they won't be alone on their journey to the great litter box in the sky. Hugs to you too X

@DeltaG well I’ve just had some slightly positive news: It’s his kidneys. They’re keeping him for another 48 hours to keep him on a drip and so they can monitor his food intake (if any) if he doesn’t it eat then it’ll be putting to sleep, if he does eat then they’re hopeful that he’ll pull through. Vet said he’s a lot brighter since being on the drip. I have everything crossed x

rupertpenryswife · 10/05/2018 17:24
