Our Sweet Girl Left Us Today

Our beautiful, 12-year-old girl went to the vets this morning for dental work, reacted badly to the anaesthetic due to a heart murmur and slipped away. We are beyond devastated and are absolutely heartbroken.

Sweet Holly adopted us in the summer of 2006 when DH and I believed we would never be able to have children. As a result, she was incredibly babied and was the cuddliest, most loveable cat you ever saw. She made the move to Canada with us 8 years ago and has been a source of joy for me, DH, DD and DS. We are all in shock at her sudden passing and have spent much of the day alternating between sharing memories and sobbing at the loss.

I’m not sure why I am posting this, but I shared photos of Holly on MN shortly after we brought her home so I thought it only fitting that I share our loss with MN as well. Squeeze your fur babies a little tighter tonight - their time with us is precious, but all too fleeting. 🐈❤️

I am so sorry you lost your lovely girl. You gave Holly the best possible life a cat could have, with a warm and loving family who cherished her.
She looks so sure of herself in that picture, so obviously a well-loved girl.

She was a beautiful girl. I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

LanguidLobster · 28/04/2018 08:06

Holly was a beautiful pusscat

Sorry to hear your sad news. They are part of the family and bring something special to a home. ThanksThanks

We had to let our old boy go last night. He had been getting progressively worse and could not go on.
My teenage boys are distraught as we've had him all their lives! Me and DH been awake during night and now waking up the house seems empty and quiet without the cats loud demands for breakfast and attention.
Really going to miss him.
We knew that we had a vet appointment for this last night and the decision was ours. So hard for your family that he had a routine operation and you lost him. Thanks

So sorry to hear this. Cats, they steal your hearts (and wreak your sofas) ,Flowers

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 28/04/2018 12:15

Thank you so much everyone for your lovely messages. Curlscatsandkids I am so sorry for your loss - it is a truly horrible feeling.

I really appreciate the support on here. Everyone around us are dog people and we have already heard “it’s just a cat” and “just go get another one.” No one but those on the Litter Tray could possibly understand.

It was a rough night for everyone. DH couldn’t sleep without his cuddle buddy and ended up sleeping on the sofa, my DS woke up crying and our other cat (a gorgeous, slightly neurotic, ginger giant) wailed throughout the night.

She was so loved and the last 24 hours without her has been awful. I just want to fast forward to a time when thinking of her will make me smile rather than cry.

So sorry for your loss Flowers. The time will come when you can enjoy your happy memories, but for now, allow yourself to grieve for her.

Want2beme · 28/04/2018 14:02

So upset for you and your family. She was beautifulFlowers

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 28/04/2018 15:08

She was absolutely beautiful. She was the runt of the litter and fit in the palm of our hand when we brought her home. She fell in love with us just as quickly as we fell in love with her and she has been a bright light in our lives for the past 12 years. She ran to the door when we came home at the end of the day and climbed up on our laps and nuzzled us when we were upset. She had a heart of gold.

She was lucky to live with a family who thought the world of her; what a happy life she had with you; you must have lit up her world just as she lit up yours. Flowers

Want2beme · 28/04/2018 15:30

It must have been such a shock for you. She looks like she was a real character, so sweet. They bring such a lot to our lives. She'll always be with you and your memories of her will get you through the awful grief. We've all lost Dcats, so keep coming back here when you need to talk.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 28/04/2018 15:33

I'm sorry OP - she's a beauty. We lost ours to the same problem last year. Such a shock when they just go in for routine surgery Flowers

Ellendegeneres · 28/04/2018 17:14

Oh annie I am so sorry.
What a beautiful story, and stunning girl. She was lucky to have you Flowers

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 28/04/2018 17:16

Thanks everyone. She was a beautiful girl and she knew it too. I’m just glad she was sedated when it happened - she went peacefully and without pain. If I had to lose her, I’m glad she went calmly and peacefully.

Oh Annie, she sounds an utter delight. So sad, so sorry. They leave their pawprints on our hearts. RIP beautiful Holly.

MrsPawsitive · 29/04/2018 02:50

It never ceases to amaze me how these little creatures can occupy such a large place in our hearts. Our cats give us love without reservation. Of course no cat is ever "just a cat"!

NotAgainYoda · 29/04/2018 08:41

Oh I am so sorry. The shock of the worst thing we fear when they have an operation must be terrible. Give yourself time to grieve.

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 29/04/2018 08:42

So sorry for you too curlsandcats
