Just took on an unexpected & deaf cat

Was thinking of an after Christmas cat when I was sent a link by a friend for a cat on gumtree.

She is 12 months old. Already had a litter and deaf. She lived down the road from me so I went to see her. Ended up bringing her home of course.

She was terrified of the other cats there and was hissing and trying to run from them.

Got her home and she is SO chilled. She is constantly purring and jumping up for cuddles.

She had fleas so I went to PAH got frontline and a drontal wormer.
Bed, bowls etc...

I've never had a deaf cat before. I keep shouting her Blush

She's very skinny (owner had her kitten) so I got her some kitten food to help her gain weight. Any other suggestions for this?

I'm going to take her for a check up after Christmas but she seems fine apart from a bit thin

She also has one green eye and one blue.

She's just exploring at the moment but just wanted to share my kitty news and hear from any other deaf cat owners.

I'd get flea treatment from the vet as in a lot of cases frontline is useless

OneBlueOneGreen · 21/12/2017 21:59

Really? I've always had cats and used frontline, never had an issue with it.

Just keep feeding her and get her neutered asap. If you cant afford it then Cats Protection may help out. They will here in Leeds.X
I've had a flea infestation after using Frontline and I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy, it was that bad. I use Advantage or Stronghold on mine. You can get Advantage from Animed for £10.00 for 3 pipettes.

OneBlueOneGreen · 21/12/2017 22:10

I just found an advantage pipette in the draw

Can I use it so soon after the frontline?

She will be neutered in Jan. Plus she is an indoor cat x

I've just adopted a (hearing) cat who is also 12 months old and has also already had a litter.

We were using Frontline on our previous cat but according to our vet, a lot of fleas are now resistant to it. New cat is having Advocate instead. I wouldn't use Advantage so soon after Frontline, but you could phone vet to check.

very important OP name and photo??

shakeyourcaboose · 21/12/2017 22:28

Xmas BlushOf new cat that is, please...

OliviaStabler · 21/12/2017 22:30

Frontline is no longer effective for fleas. Best buy Advocate or similar from you vet.

OliviaStabler · 21/12/2017 22:30

Your

Vinorosso74 · 21/12/2017 22:51

Yep Advocate or Stronghold for fleas.
If you got her off Gumtree I would take her to vet sooner rather than later. Call first thing in morning, do not wait until after Christmas. She may well need vaccinations but will certainly need a vet check asap.

Partyfops · 21/12/2017 23:00

We have a deaf cat and she is fine, but she mostly lives inside or just in the garden.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 21/12/2017 23:46

Awww. Is she white? Most white cats with one blue eye and one green are deaf.

thecatneuterer · 22/12/2017 00:57

Agree that Frontline no longer works. However I think you now need to leave it two weeks before you can use the Advantage but second phoning the vet to check.

OneBlueOneGreen · 22/12/2017 05:35

HotelEuphoria · 22/12/2017 07:43

She Is so lucky to have found you! Another, who's vet says Frontline doesn't work anymore. I bulk buy Advantage from Viovet online.

She also has one green eye and one blue. She may only be deaf on the blue eye side. I know she would be deaf, white cats with blue eyes usually are.

sashh · 22/12/2017 08:07

I mean I knew she would be white - typo sorry

shhhfastasleep · 22/12/2017 08:11

Beautiful cat. Deafness wasn't really an issue for my old girl. We didn't really notice until she didn't seem to care about fireworks anymore. Obviously she was dead rather than chilled. Although she was chilled Grin.
Get her checked by the vet. Get flea stuff from the vet.
Enjoy your new mistress.

shhhfastasleep · 22/12/2017 08:12

Deaf not dead. Bloody autocorrect. She lived till she was 20!!!Grin

sashh · 22/12/2017 08:17

50% of my first degree was Deaf studies - I often have to explain I did not study dead people.
