Affectionate cat?

I'm in Indonesia, there are a lot of stray/semiattached cats around. I'm not much of a cat person.

But there's a cat that's just turned up and sits on my balcony every morning. When I go out he comes and lies on my lap like a sleeping baby and also tries to lick my face.

I've made no attempt to bond with him he's just decided that. Also haven't fed him. I did offer him some cheese but he didn't seem interested.

Aren't cats supposed to be aloof?

How cute! I think you'll find, he's your cat!

LefDeppard · 14/09/2017 18:50

Cats tend to adopt people, not the other way around, I started randomly feeding a stray that kept showing up in my garden and 7 years later she's sat on my couch as I type this!

Awww congratulations OP - you're a cat servant owner!

Pics?

Awwww well done on adopting your first cat

pisacake · 14/09/2017 18:58

I think he likes things that are soft. I had a big pile of dry washing outside on a chair and he came and sat on a few mornings running and then on me when I came outside.

Are you going to keep him?

ladymariner · 14/09/2017 18:59

My adopted cat follows me like a little furry shadow and talks constantly to me.... I didn't particularly want her but I now adore her Smile

pisacake · 14/09/2017 19:00

Isn't that up to him?

As a self confessed cat lady (and proud) I think you will find you now own a cat! Congratulation on your your addition 😂😍

msrisotto · 14/09/2017 19:02

Cats love furring a fresh pile of laundry 😸

YesItsMeIDontCare · 14/09/2017 19:07

He's lovely OP! I think he's decided you are keeping him. Grin

You've been chosen. It would be more ideal if you can get him to a vet for a check up, neuter and jabs. But a comfy lap and some love will be a great start.

pisacake · 14/09/2017 20:23

He just turned up again when I went to put the washing out (!). He seemed to think it was a game when I was hanging it up and would dart from one side to the other getting in the way. I gave him a saucer of milk but not interested.

No milk or cheese. Some cats can't process milk proteins (or something like that!) and it makes them ill.
I'm sure your new master will soon have you trained. Grin

Wow what a handsome chap. . Has he a name yet or do you need suggestions?

Cats aren't aloof with their chosen human. I sounds like he's decided your the one for him.

This is my cat. He's never does this for anyone else.

That's a very possessive paw in your pics, has definitely decided that you are a suitable slave.

Offer him/her fresh water, and any spare meat hanging around e.g. ham, roast chicken, until you can stock up on cat food Grin

shhhfastasleep · 15/09/2017 08:12

Milk isn't very good for them but they love water.

shhhfastasleep · 15/09/2017 08:14

Don't call him Martin McGuinness - too political (that's being soft for this thread). Not sweet. At all.

EachandEveryone · 15/09/2017 09:04

Guiness is cute though.

shhhfastasleep · 15/09/2017 09:48

Guinness is lovely. Reference to that scumbag is offensive- sorry for making the litter tray topic a bit less about cats momentarily. You will offend most people if you call him after Martin McGuinness.
